Governor Mister Phes Posted September 2, 2006 Governor Posted September 2, 2006 Baron Sat, what inspired you to build this MOC? Do you have an interest in Pirate LEGO or did you feel that it was time you made a pirate MOC because you've been focusing on other themes in the past? Quote

Do you have an interest in Pirate LEGO or did you feel that it was time you made a pirate MOC because you've been focusing on other themes in the past? I like to build and explore different worlds, so it was time for a Pirates MOC. And summer is a good season for that, it's hot, there's a lot of sun and my town is largely made of 18th century building and was a merchant port in the old time. The town is not far from the Atlantic ocean and some days you can smell the flavor of salt in the air, see the seagulls flying over the river and hear the sea breeze... a very Pirates feeling. Quote
BaronSat Posted September 2, 2006 Author Posted September 2, 2006 A great MOC indeed! I wish i could just take the steam bus and leave my petit village and have atrip through the wilderness with a nice break at the tavern and buy myself a ticket for the galileo (because i don Quote

Do you think you'll build anymore pirate related MOCs in the future? Now a question for everybody : Does the picture named Stans (the one with the close up on the small white house) rings any bell to some videogame player? I'll put a picture in the thread for everyone's convenience... Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 That really is a great port, I love the ship's sails do you have a print of them? the whole port looks great, lots of detail and a great type of building, for example the palm three or the sunscreens on the second floor building, great moc *y* wish i could do that.... Berry Syedow Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Ahoy, BaronSat! wow, this is phenomenal!!! Phenomenal?! That’s an understatement. ;-) The diversity and balance crafted into this MOC are beyond my capabilities. It has real flavor to it. This is what pirate MOCs should be all about; lots of color, culture, and atmosphere. It’s a shame that you aren’t designated to the pirate theme, but I suppose this is a double edged sword… Other themes will also get great exposure from you. Your idea of a richly populated sprawling port makes me think that some sort of port-collaboration at next year’s Brickfest is in order. I also like that your port is modular. This is exactly the sort of stuff LEGO could have done to prolong the Pirate Line. Thinking back to this thread, modularity could be a major component to LEGO themes in general. If only TLC would invest in ideas like these, they would have never suffered financial difficulty. Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted September 2, 2006 Governor Posted September 2, 2006 If only there were LEGO sombreros! Quote
Jipay Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 amazing they missed that accessory when they releasing the western line Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 2, 2006 Governor Posted September 2, 2006 Obviously The LEGO Company didn't venture far enough south! The Brickster has contemplated the possibilitys for future Western sub-themes but I don't think he ever concieved a LEGO sombrero. Or if he did I'm not aware of it! Quote
ghoulrealm Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Extremely well done! Here is the list of my most favorite aspects of your moc; the roof architecture embellishment, the archway, spanish roof tiles, the peir, the brick built pelican, and especially the ship. I believe this is one of the best mocs in the style of an official Lego set, except that lego would not likely sever a man's hands to shackle him. :-) Quote
BaronSat Posted September 2, 2006 Author Posted September 2, 2006 Do you think you'll build anymore pirate related MOCs in the future? Certainly but I first "have to" make something military, still don't know what. I'll put a picture in the thread for everyone's convenience... Thanks. And congrats to Jipay, that was a "clin d'oeil" (how did they say that in english?) to Monkey Island one of my favourite game for the 20th century. BTW I created a correct flag for my spanish fort, here the same photo after correction and a close up of the flag Thanks to Mr Tiber and Bery Syedow (who noticed that the 2 baseplate can combine in different ways)and Ghoulrealm (who noticed the bird) for nice comments. Brick Miner Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Brick Miner is also a graphic artist and he's been designing skins for some of our other forums like LEGO History & Adventure. Or should I say NEARLY good :-Dyou sure are giving me a lot of :-X for that "nearly" :-D :-P Graphic artists can only survive a few hours if you take them out of their Photoshop environment!!!you might be interested to know that our friend here, mr phes, doesn't use the adobe products !!! i dont' see how he does without :-P wow, this is phenomenal!!! Oops sorry I forgot you Mr Tiber, that's right you noticed my special palm tree. I have problem with quotes too when I reply a message from Mister Phes? Probably because of super security system elaborated to protect the mod??? ;-) No to avoid any more problem with quotes, a brand new message. Yesterday, I shot the sheriff... er I mean the ship. I've uploaded them on BS but the folder is moderated again so I put them on my website and here are the links : http://www.baronsat.net/baronshop/Merchant_Ship02.jpg http://www.baronsat.net/baronshop/Merchant_Ship03.jpg I've inclued a close of the opening part with small cannon that can be used on both side. Brr, it's scary. *wacko* I believe this is one of the best mocs in the style of an official Lego set, except that lego would not likely sever a man's hands to shackle him. :-) thought this is definietely a masterpiece, i wouldn't say baronsat has used an official LEGO building style here.i'd be interested to hear what others have to say about this topic... In fact I tried to include a classic look in this model. But now I consider the model from a different point of view , I think the percentage must be around 5%. Is it a success or a failure? Ok, now it's clear, quotes turned crazy... Quote
Jipay Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 Just one little thing : you wrote on every picture www.baronsat.com when it seems to be www.baronsat.net ;-) Quote

And the sails are just printed paper with coat my tutorial would be poor compared to one of Evil Willy :-( . But I'm searching some printable vinyl, if I get it I will of course post in the right forum. Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted September 4, 2006 Governor Posted September 4, 2006 I'm wondering about the choice of mini-figures on the ship. There is what appears to be a female soldier and a pirate. Is there any particular reason a pirate and a soldier were placed on the ship together or is it just whatever mini-figures were available? Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 It doesn't need to be a pirate Phes, It can also be a honest merchant, or a normal civilian. Quote

She's not a soldier she's just wearing a soldier vest she get from a second hand store... or from her brother or lover or win it in a card game... or... who knows... not me, but that kind of things can happen. It doesn't need to be a pirate Phes, It can also be a honest merchant, or a normal civilian. And by the way Mr Tiber you're right, the captain isn't a pirate but an honest merchant. He has no hook, no peg leg etc... Mr Phes is really a purist. :-P Quote
Tordenskjold Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Very NICE. TLC have something to learn from you. that moc could go straight into production. you even got the picture to look like it came from a lego catalog. close enough to perfect to me :-D Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 26, 2006 Posted September 26, 2006 Bloody stormy weather a few miles from the coast of puerto Brico, the HMS Unpredictable met Davy Jones' locker while it was on his way to peurto Brico. Some French schooners were trying to reach the port, but she took care of them, after that she got into a storm and sunk all the way to Davy Jones' locker, it was a bloody fine ship to sail... Quote
