GuntherThePenguin Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 Do you have any news about sets for 2013? I know Spongebob isn't the best or most succesful, but I do really enjoy seeing these sets pop up, like 'the theme that could!' and because I still want a Pearl and Barnacle Boy and Mermaid Man.... We don't have any information on any 2013 sets besides what Lego gave us at Comic Con, sorry. But I wouldn't be surprised to see more sets. I would, however be skeptical of getting a Pearl or Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. Pearl would certainly require some sort of new mold, which while not impossible probably means Lego would tend to include a simpler character if given the option. As for MM and BB, as far as I can tell Heroic Heroes of the Deep was a way for Lego to include a scene similar to the episodes with those characters, without actually including them. Why? I don't know, but I haven't seen them in any other merchandise, either. Perhaps it has something to do with their celebrity voice actors, or perhaps it's just because they're less iconic than the animal characters, and kids with only a marginal understanding of the franchise would be confused by these human (or rather, superhuman) characters. Old Brick Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 I hope this theme continues, I quite enjoy the SBSP sets. Quote

Sadly Ernest Borgnine is going to be a tough one to replace I would love to see a few more Spongebob sets. Maybe a marching band set? Now that would be cool! /e queues up 80's hair band power ballad. Also I feel we won't see anymore Sponge Bob sets...at least in the first half of the year. True, about the Band Geeks episode..... Rock On Patrick ! Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I just recently picked up the two 2012 sets, and they're great! I'm assuming that this theme is dead in the water at this point however, since we've had no word on any 2013 sets. It's a shame, since Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy were the last major characters that the theme needed. Quote

It's a shame, since Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy were the last major characters that the theme needed. It's most likely taking a break until November 2014, when sets based off the second movie will probably come out, as the second movie comes out December 2014. Kind of like the break it took in 2010. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Hm....that would be quite a long break. More than 2 years, to be exact. That would be a first for a licensed theme, but I suppose stranger things have happened. Quote
YangHao6998 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I hope when this theme returns from its break, we will get a new bigger and better Krusty Krab that is something like the one in 2006! Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I don't gripe about the Dutchman for his beard, but rather for his expression. I would have loved to see his wonderfully cartoonish creepy grin. The annoyed face is ugly to me, so the parts of the set that stick out to me are the green genie tail, the soul bag, and the Dutchman's ship. Quote
YangHao6998 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Sad to say but we may never see anymore Lego Spongbob sets anymore as the rights have gone to megabloks. I am going to get the remaining sets if I can find them. Quote
gedren_y Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Yes, I've heard about that. The US Lego site has all but one Spongebob set listed as retired, and the remaining set was on sale. It is now sold out. Hopefully Lego can repurpose at least some of the molds designed for this line. I've used the Patrick head in LDD as a type of plant. Spongebob's head piece could also service as a topiary bush. The Sandy and Squidward molds, though are likely to specialized. Quote
Rinzler Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 this theme is dead in the water Did you mean that as a pun Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 ^ Nope! It's a shame to see the license pass to MegaBloks, though. Quote
bekindsorewind Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Such a shame, especially since LEGO can do short-sleeve printing on minifgure arms it'd be perfect to reintroduce the themes with updated versions of SpongeBob, Squidward and Mr. Krabs (Though you can make Spongebob better with the new Homer minifigure's arms). It sure is a darn shame. I've been hoping for a D2C Sandy's Treedome set, and sets based of the second film next year. But, excellent idea with the Homer arms. I so wanna see a picture of Spongebob with 'em. I'm too lazy to take my own, but I guess we'll see. Edited February 14, 2014 by just2good Quote
gedren_y Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Yes, the new arms (which are overmolded not painted) would have finished Spongebob off nicely. I hope the Spongebob sets/parts resale market doesn't go roof, now that it is officially a dead theme. I still want to get some of the fish heads and Mrs. Puff to use for other things. Quote
lightningtiger Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 First Thomas The Tank, now Sponge Bob........ Though I thought there was once a rumour of MB gaining this theme......lets hope Lego doesn't lose the Turtles......that I would doubt that happening thanks to the Lego Movie. Quote

Though I thought there was once a rumour of MB gaining this theme......lets hope Lego doesn't lose the Turtles......that I would doubt that happening thanks to the Lego Movie. I wouldn't be too worried about TMNT. It seems clear that it's doing quite well for Lego, considering they're not just giving us another wave but expanding the line for the movie. I think Spongebob had kind of run its course, and I saw a lot of Spongebob sets on clearance towards the end of its run. Seems like they weren't moving that well, Lego probably decided to just let the license go. Quote
just2good Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) Makes me kind of sad to see how much attention that other brand is giving the Spongebob license... Blind bags? Lots of small sets? Edited February 17, 2014 by just2good Quote
BrickG Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Spongebob just wasn't a big enough seller. I'm impressed how much attention they're giving it with all those sets and figures. Though it's still not Lego so I can't buy it :P. Not like I was going to anyways. I've got a SpongeBob and Patrick and the Super Hero versions of them, and a plankton. That's all I needed anyways. Quote
Dorayaki Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 (edited) I miss Spongebob, but to me it's difficult to tell whether this series still has potential in Lego lines. Compared to Simpsons or Avatar, Lego Spongebob have provided many iconic buildings from this show. The exception might be Sandy's Treedome, though I don't know how to design it. So, if this show is still popular after five years, TLC can consider to redesign this theme again. Or if the Spongebob Movie 2 have enough new iconic scenes, they could also be a subtheme that new Lego sets can base on. Oh, but if MB makes the movie sets, TLC would really suck. The major complaint I have is there are still many characters I really wanted to see, such as Pearl, Karen and Mermaid Man etc. Unless TLC is able to make a CMF Spongebob series. But from the leaks, I'm not very impressed by MB's choice of characters from the blind bags. For MegaBloks, I'm no MB hater, but it's a big pity that they don't own an iconic figure to market with. Even though they've got so many cool licenses, most of them isolate from each other and the nonlicensed themes. I don't think there could be The MB Movie that have Pokemon, Kitty and Call of Duty crossover even if TMBC want to. Edited February 17, 2014 by Dorayaki Quote
Rinzler Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 SON OF A BRICK! that Krusty Krab set ripped off Lego's original design! Quote
