Legostein Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Hello everybody! Finally I am able to present another model from the science fiction media to you. It's the Earth Alliance Starfury starfighter from the Babylon 5 TV series. Although I have to admit to never have seen the series, there are many challenging starship designs worth to be bricked. So let's start with a small starfighter. The cockpit block is a SNOT construction to attach the cockpit windows and the chin guns on the underside. The wings are the choice out of many tested possibilites to get the weird shape and angles right. >>> Click here for building instructions <<< That's it for today. If you'd like to see more craft from science fiction movies, feel free to have a look on my "About Me" page where you will find a summary at the bottom. Have a great sunday, ~ Christopher Quote
Siegfried Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Babylon 5! I'm actually a huge fan and you've done an excellent job considering the size. Even so, why did you use the head piece rather than the cone for the engine fronts? If you changed that I think it'd look a lot closer. Quote
harakiri Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 (edited) Wow! This is nice, I love B5 Getting the instructions now. But I am probably missing some parts .... Edited September 25, 2011 by harakiri Quote
Fugazi Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Beautiful build Legostein! Instantly recognisable, especially for someone who loves B5 like me. I considered building one myself in a bigger scale but never got around to it. I look forward to any other B5 universe creations you may have in the works! And sorry for the OT, but there are (again) rumours of a B5 motion picture in the talks, perhaps this time it will happen? Quote
simonjedi Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I'm a huge fan of B5 so it's nice to see it getting some LEGO love at any scale. It looks great as always Will you be doing any more ships? The Earth alliance stuff is easy enough, but the Mimbari would be quite difficult. Quote
lightningtiger Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Thanks 'Legostein' for an AWESOME space craft from one of my favorite TV shows ever, though aren't Starfurys mean't to be dark colours/tones though ? Anyway, a fantastic build and you gotta love those four big pulse cannons eh ? (perfect to attack the Shadows with right ? ) Brick On ! Quote

But whaddaya MEAN, you've never seen the series? It's only one of the very best science fiction TV shows EVER. (Now waiting for a White Star model, and goes off to download instructions.) Quote
Princess Muttonchops Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Awesome MOC Legostein, really, that's unmistakably a Star Fury. Ah, it's great to see B5 get some love. I personally prefer the design of the Earth Alliance ships, particularly the ones featuring rotating sections, although I'm also quite partial to Narn cruisers (just a shame they almost always get blown up on the show ). Si-MOCs Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Man that thing looks so swooshable! :) Quote
Legostein Posted September 27, 2011 Author Posted September 27, 2011 Hello again everyone, and thank you for the nice comments! I am glad we have a constructive discussion here, and I will gladly give more information to answer your questions. [...] why did you use the head piece rather than the cone for the engine fronts? [...] I chose the slightly bigger elements because the wings are relatively thick in the model, and I wanted the engines to be clearly thicker than the wings. Hence I went with the heads instead of the bricks. The Earth alliance stuff is easy enough, but the Mimbari would be quite difficult. It always looks pretty easy once you see the finsihed model. But it's really harder than it looks to come up with a good result when you have nothing yet. But whaddaya MEAN, you've never seen the series? It's only one of the very best science fiction TV shows EVER. Well, yes, that might be true. I just haven't found the time yet with all the other scifi series I am involved. Thanks everyone for your interest and comments! My curiosity about Babylon 5 is now much greater than before, so you can probably expect more ships from the series. See you around, Christopher Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I'm just teasing, Christopher. I don't expect everyone who loves science fiction to watch B5, especially given its relative obscurity compared to things like Trek, SW, BSG and Doctor Who. But if you ever get the chance to watch, it is a really, really good show that paved the way for modern SF sagas on TV. Before B5, nobody ever expected televised SF shows to have a plot with a beginning and an end. B5 has a great unifying story and a lot of good characters who actually change, grow and occasionally die. I just have to tell you, though, that when you watch it you SHOULD watch the first season, but keep in mind that the show's true greatness only kicks in during the second season. Season One is just laying the foundations, establishing characters and such. Quote

Meanwhile, I'll continue with some ships maybe? Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
Darth Nihilus Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I have never heard of Babylon 5, is there a wiki page for it? But exellent MOC anyway, it is bieutifully done, and it looks accurate to the reference. Are you planning to do any more MINIs from this series? Quote

Try here: http://babylon5.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page Other B5 resources are also available. I have to admit having acquired a couple of what I later determined to be Lego dinosaur tails in black I did have an idea about trying to recreate a shadow vessel!!! Quote
nexus2019 Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 How long will LEGO be releasing STAR WARS kits? Quote
Legostein Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 Hello, and thanks for the ongoing discusssion. Are you planning to do any more MINIs from this series? I think I already answered the question twice. Tanma Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Interesting vessel, what part was used for the guns/blasters? I think I have seen the part before, but I don't recall it's purpose. Quote

lightningtiger Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I always though they only had four pulse cannons, but six I discover now....ah, well you learn something new everyday. Hey, 'Legostein' going to post that Earth Alliance Hyperion Heavy Cruiser of yours I just discovered also on Brickshelf ? Quote
Legostein Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Hey, 'Legostein' going to post that Earth Alliance Hyperion Heavy Cruiser of yours I just discovered also on Brickshelf ? Hello! I guess it's difficult to hide something from you. I did not expect BrickShelf to update that quickly this time. I planned to post it somewhere in the middle of this week to not post all new stuff at once, but now that you already revealed it... Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
Tanma Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 (edited) Hello, these are wrenches. They're part of the tool wheel. Cheers, ~ Christopher How did I miss that, either way it has a nice design, I am fond of symertircal ships, especially vessels that are reflections of many sides.
