Pat-Ard Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Hi efferman, the bumper looks good. You're kidding, you aren't really lacking parts? Pat Quote
efferman Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 because transclear tiles are very rare in technic sets, this is unfortunately true Quote
timslegos Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Would you mind explaining how the gearbox works? I am still trying to figure it out. tim Quote
efferman Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 There are simply some clutch gears and some spur gears. No shifting mechanism or something similar. Quote
timslegos Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I dont know if it is possible, but a picture would really help! tim Quote

Pat-Ard Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Hi efferman, thanks for posting the pictures. It was a lot of fun, as usual... Pat Quote
PhyBuilder Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 (edited) Compared directly to eachother the added ground clearance of the customized portals becomes cleary visible. @Pat-Ard: very nice and realistic U20. You made a good use of the new panels! Edited May 4, 2014 by PhyBuilder Quote
notareal Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Love those customized portals. Did you need to do much fine tuning after printing? Are they compatible with wheels that comes with lego 8110 unimog or do they need 3D printed wheels too? Quote

efferman Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 They work with standard rims too. There is only one stud difference between the pivot points. Some cleaning was neccessary, because some holes are not a perfect circle. Pinholes are no problem, but the holes for the driveshaft has to be cleaned by a 4,8 or 5,0 drill to get a smooth rotation. Zerobricks Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I really like your chassis design with the curved lines, I otta steal it :) Good work again Effe! Quote

Pat-Ard Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Hi efferman, great work - as usual!!! And thanks for sharing the lxf!!! It'll help building my U4000. Pat Quote
Boxerlego Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) The Unimog looks fantastic. I have a question, is there a noticeable difference on the amount of current draw for the servo motor when turning with the custom portals hubs compared to the LEGO portal hubs. Edited May 5, 2014 by Boxerlego Quote
efferman Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 i use a 20/12 gear combination, with the 20 tooth on the servo, and the servo has no problems during steering Quote
