Hi everyone!

If you're in the UK and regularly read PC Gamer and intend to pick up the latest issue (28 September, 2011), I have a favour to ask.

According to their website, it's some kind of special issue with 60 extra pages and included in there is a promotional/activation code for a Team Fortress 2 hat. HAT!

I think you see where I'm going with this.

If you're in the UK and intend to buy the magazine but don't play TF2, could you possibly PM me the activation code from your magazine? I could actually use a couple of codes if more than one of you gets it and would show my appreciation by abusing my powers here to give you something in return.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry, don't live in the UK.

But I do have a question concerning these kinds of topics. I noticed that most of the time, when some less senior members of EB post these kind of topics, they get closed by the admins. But when a senior member like you does this, it gets accepted.

Is there a reason for this?

I think that If you think it is fair that mods can use their powers to self-promote and not let others use the same means. Then of course this shouldn't bother you. But if you think it is unfair, then simply not do what the self-promoter asks. Soon so and so will see that this isn't the way to get what he or she wants and will cease to do it again. It's how most forums work.

Nah, we play by the rules most of the time, because unfair rules would be changed. Things like this are the little exception, and actually I don't mind if anyone else who is interested in this promotion, like Corvus up there, posts that they're interested. Hopefully there will be help for more than just me, it's just that if we allowed everyone to do it for everything, you know the routine. For LEGO items, we do allow it in B/S/T/F, though.

It's purely voluntary and a bit of a long shot as it is, so yeah, what he said, it's no sweat either way, I'd just appreciate the help if possible.

You should have just bumped the TF2 thread.

A 'General natter' or 'quick short questions that don't need it's own thread' thread would be good as long as people don't use it to pad postcounts.

Shadows: maybe it is a good idea to create a thread for these kinds of questions, then it's easier for the do-gooders around here to help.

I don't think that would have yielded any results because most likely players of the game would keep their codes.

I think a thread for self-promotion is a bad idea to be frank. Speaking for myself, I would never look at it of care. Not because I'm heartless, but because I think it would get spammed way to often.

I'm at a loss of what is to be done, I'd assume the best route would be to just leave it the way it is.

I think I will make a dedicated topic for this kind of thing, since there are so many opportunities to use it, and just like anything else, if it's abused we'll just talk to the person abusing it.

Still looking for a code, as well. To be honest, I didn't think anyone still bought magazines in paper format, so this whole promotion is a pain.
