I have started with the analysis of the design and that includes bringing out the boxes with pieces... The design is really a challenge to build as basically everything more or less just hangs loose. So, the first step (that I'm working on) is to create a internal structure for the main frame and engines. Also, the design with up to three plates stacked had to be changed as the original design bends in an awkward way. I haven't mentioned the cabin section and the engines themselves yet - they will be handled after the main body is good enough. I want the design to be more sturdy than my 10030...

Edit: Some progress done - managed to build a Technic-frame for the main body of the ship. Studless liftarms was the solution to keep the look and the odd placements of the panels.

A few pictures to show how far I'm into this...

The greebling is not complete as parts are missing. Next step is to figure out the design of the engine mounts. But I have already spotted an other problem: the two large domes at the front of each engine - where can I find them in white? I assume that 85962 is used, but I can only find it in transparent clear on BL.

Wow, that's great Illuwater!

Never though someone would give this LDD design a shot. :cry_happy:

Good luck. I hope you can solve all the illegal LDD techniques I used, the floating bricks etcetera, as my design was purely build for the looks.

You could substitute the domes used in the official UCS Y-wing.

I was looking on that one, but it is 6 x 6 at the base. This version of the Y-Wing do have a engine size of 8 x 8. But as a substitute, it needs some additional parts to create a transfer between 6 x6 and 8 x 8. Making the engines thinner is not an option...

I will try as far as possible. Some changes might be done to make the ship physically buildable. And the engines will be shorten with the length of two bricks. That will make them more to the pictures posted earlier in this thread.

Ah, I forgot about the width.

Maybe the best solution is a Lowell Sphere, then.

You could just buy those clear parts and spray paint them white.
