Large Wheels

Hey people.

Has anyone got any good designs for building large useable technic wheels? A friend of mine built one for me which is probably 12" tall but the concept does not scale up much more. So thinking maybe a 20" wheel that is pretty strong.

Building large wheels has alway's puzzled me.

you can make it smaller by using 8-long axles instead of 12

I tried THIS and works good, you can make it bigger, and retain good strength.

Is that held together using flex pipe?

To me it looks like the rim is connected using x2 axles, taking turns on upper and lower slots ;-)

I don't like the idea of putting stress on parts like that.

I'm fairly sure god had nothing to do with it :P and several mutilated LEGO pieces at my home place want to have a word with you about the last bit

I have bent a few parts just because the XL motor is so powerful! Saying that I need more power!

Well while I was ill I made 2 large wheels, now I got to think of what to do with them, thinking maybe a robot or traction engine! Slightly different design, pretty strong!

There are 2 of them and its forming the base of another large robot. I know I know, it will never work, or will it!
