Burf2000 Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hey people. Has anyone got any good designs for building large useable technic wheels? A friend of mine built one for me which is probably 12" tall but the concept does not scale up much more. So thinking maybe a 20" wheel that is pretty strong. Building large wheels has alway's puzzled me. Quote
Sokratesz Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 (edited) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgXzgtvx-Wo ;) you can make it smaller by using 8-long axles instead of 12 Edited October 5, 2011 by Sokratesz Quote
Milan Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I tried THIS and works good, you can make it bigger, and retain good strength. Some other examples: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=488767 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4366478 Quote
Burf2000 Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 Guys thanks for some very good ideas http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4366478 Is that held together using flex pipe? Quote
aposaric Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 To me it looks like the rim is connected using x2 axles, taking turns on upper and lower slots ;-) Quote

Burf2000 Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 Yeah I am not to in to bending or stressing parts to much Quote
aposaric Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Well, that is the reason why God invented plastic, so we can bend stuff ;-) Quote
Sokratesz Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Well, that is the reason why God invented plastic, so we can bend stuff ;-) I'm fairly sure god had nothing to do with it :P and several mutilated LEGO pieces at my home place want to have a word with you about the last bit Quote

Saying that I need more power! Quote
Burf2000 Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Well while I was ill I made 2 large wheels, now I got to think of what to do with them, thinking maybe a robot or traction engine! Slightly different design, pretty strong! IMG_0177 by burf2000, on Flickr Quote
allanp Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Well, that is the reason why God invented plastic, so we can bend stuff ;-) Humans invented plastic + God invented the atoms = God > humans. Quote

I keep forgeting that this is a Lego forum, populated with kids, so the humor is a bit different to adult world ;-) Keep on building :-) Burf, that is a big wheel.
