-N13OS-'s and GlenBricker's collaborative FTL project just topped the 10K threshold, so I guess we'll see how things fair with the IP issues in the next quarter.

I think the biggest areas that CuuSoo needs to work on remain better mechanisms for presenting projects to casual visitors and browsers. We don't want the niche supporters to have a hard time voting for the stuff they like. We need the system to be better at showing them more stuff that they would like and hooking them on other projects. Because guess what. Pretty much all of we AFOLs were "niche " fans the day we ended our dark ages. The day we found this hobby. Something brought us back. Rather than being upset at what that something is for a different group, leverage it. Better search tools and category tools available from the front page. Being able to drill down based on subjects of interest, and not simply a semi random and user defined "search tags" system of categorization. Better rotating banners that pull from the full breadth of the pool of projects, not simply the most recent and most supported. Etc.

I totally agree with you Duke. I have pushed a lot on this actually (to the extent that anyone outside the company can).

I don't kid myself that anyone goes to my site to search for Cuusoo projects (or casual users to be sure) but I am working on this issue on my one site of Cuusoo with the cross support system and a planned interface for searching by themes suggested by people other than the project creators. Most crazy is an atempt to create an algorithm that can identify better projects based on performance and qualities rather than static values. That is the fun one.

Looking at the CuuSoo front page brings up an interesting question. The two Ghostbusters projects sit within about 20 votes of each other. I wonder what happens if they hit in the same review period?

They have no choice but to make a Ghostbusters set.

Oh I agree. If they had any doubts about the power of a nostalgia nerd movie property I think they were vaporized by the BttF set selling out in half a day. Right now some Lego guy is flipping through imdb looking at 80's movies and asking "would this work?"

I have trouble searching for things and sometimes often completely irrelevant projects come up.

And, thanks glenbricker for sorting through all the projects on CUUSOO and identifying interesting ones!

Eurobricker wetwired's Ghostbuster's project takes a seemingly unassailable lead over its rival despite starting with a 2000 vote deficit. If you haven't voted for it, you're a Communist.

wetwired is also the creator of the UCS Tumbler project which also reached 10K.

When the first one hits 10K, people will stop voting for the other. Same thing happened with the BttF. The difference now is over 500 votes. First-in, best dressed, i guess.

This may be just a conspiracy theory of my own, but I think the most voted Ghostbusters project is doing a bit of cheating. Why? Because they have the GB's HQ shown in the picture of presentation, when it is not supposed to be included in the set if it becomes made.

So basicly both projects offers the same thing - car and team. But because that one (on purpose or not) shows also the HQ it is getting more votes.

Of course I have no real proof that's the reason it is getting more votes, but...

Glen Bricker did renders and some community activities that served very well for the project (also helped me to make an appropriate description and consulted me on a design all the way), and I did the models all along. So I find the lack of my nickname (which is CrashSanders, please to meet you) in your post disturbing. If I am getting a bit rude here, I do apologize, but please, don't say 'GlenBricker's FTL project', because that is a lie which irritates me. I am not asking to give all credit to me, but also giving credit only to him will make our relationship quite unfair. After all, we are partners who value each other.

Also, more on the topic: this is all okay with IP because game's developers has actually supported us all the way to the 10k, doing important tweets and telling their opinion on any ideas that came to Glen or me.

My sincere apologies, I realize it was a collaboration and didn't mean to slight your very significant contributions from concept to execution. I cited GlenBricker simply as a 'refresher' to those reading the thread in that he had recently made multiple postings on the feasibility of FTL passing review and one the dynamics of CuuSoo in general.

Again, I'm sorry for the oversight, no offense was intended and I wish both of you best of luck with the review process.

I guess that's because of my conceit. I don't think I need to be that aggressive about those things. That's actually the first time I make something that significant so I am very excited.

Thank you, anyway. We've put a lot of effort in this project and I almost pray for success. But, I fear that Lego designers will change my original designs. I hope they'll manage to improve them.

Well, you're wrong because BrentWaller's car model is superior and so are his minifigs -- e.g. compare Venkman's hair piece and their accessory pieces.

Poptropica just hit 9k. :classic:

I still don't even know what Poptropica is.

Anyways the Ghostbusters thing... are those customized molds for two of those hairs? I don't recognize all those hairs.

Yes. He mentioned on another forum that he filed-down an existing lego hair piece for Venkman's receding hairline.

I did compare both and yes you are right BrentWaller's model is better.

Now, am I naive enough to think around 9000 people checked in for that level of detail of hair pieces and acessories? No, I am not.

Did he mention the whole process? It looks pretty good. I assume he did more than filing it down.

I'm sure if you pm him, he'll give you the low-down. His EB username is "WetWired".

Who knows? the other set is advertising a "playset" (without a build) so i don't see how it's disadvantaged.

BrentWaller's Ecto-1 also has working lights. i'm sure that was a big factor.

It's all in the presentation and not so much the tiny build details. Honestly I think BrentWallers is a little better photographed and draws the eye better. But really both sets describe or talk about pretty much the same thing. Both discuss he fire station HQ's as a possibility, although Brent's does show it. The two have been pretty much in a dead heat until this week. I would attribute the sudden surge in Brent's more to a better effort to directly link the project on non Lego forums in the past 2 weeks combined with those links keeping it at or near the top of the "recent activity" page on CuuSoo. And the fact that the lead picture for that project is so nicely striking leads to frequent additional hits from the activity page. Honestly the bulk of the casual visitors to CuuSoo probably do not realize that there are two unrelated bu similar GB projects this close to the top. They go to vote for Ghostbusters, and simply vote for the first they find.

There was a Ghostbusters site promoting the "30th Anniversary" set last week/2 weeks ago which seems to have caused the jump in popularity. I do hope that Lego decides to go with it soon, as next year will be a great tie in for them to get a bunch of sales.

I was curious about Poptropica. Seems to be some sort of gaming website. The Ghostbusters set looks interesting!

With a current total of 9190 (and counting!), it looks like Brentwaller's Ghostbusters project is now the frontrunner to getting 10000 supporters! Kinda surprising that it overtook Poptropica so quickly, but it's a quality project well worth the spot. Can't wait to see it qualify for review!

Yeah, it will easily make the September deadline (and doubtful the competitor will).

Which is only fair since a prominent Ghostbuster's message board initially prohibited Brent from posting about his project since the other GBs project belonged to a mod and was heavily promoted. Cuusoo politics, baby!

Some of the others you mention might be possible, but I suspect these two are too adult / "kid-unfriendly" for TLG to want to do.

I'm hoping Lego gives them joint credit for proposing the idea, and equally reaching the available audience and provoking interest in the projects.
