Well, besides me not being able to upload a project because of my age, my ideas don't meet the CUUSOO requirements. I was thinking of submitting a Disney classics idea, among the themes: probably hercules, aladdin, snow white, cinderella, etc. And the idea consists in more than one set and new elements, so no.

I think when TLG and Disney announced their licensing in 2010, it was only for 2 years.. so :cry_sad:

I suspect that he Disney licensing will continue in some form. Don't forget Marvel is now Disney. So a substantial portion of what is on shelves now traces back to a Disney license in one way or another. Granted PoP was a dud, but I think PotC did well and there seems to be an abundance of Cars that isn't getting blown out in clearence sales. So the license is probably an overall winner.

Both Marvel and DC are Disney.

No, DC is owned by Time Warner. But Marvel, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Cars are all Disney, so I think licensing with Disney wouldn't be that hard.

The first wave of the Superheroes line was DC sets. The Superheroes line is licensed with Disney.

Only the Marvel sets are licensed with Disney. It's a rare instance of a single "licensed theme" comprising licenses from more than one company, but it's not the only case by any means. For instance, LEGO Sports was licensed with both the NBA and NHL, among other sports organizations. These companies do not share ownership and yet were both licenses were part of the same "LEGO Sports" umbrella.

Likewise, the first Spider-Man sets were part of the LEGO Studios brand, which had previously had a license with Steven Spielberg for the original Movie Maker Set. However, the Spider-Man films which the sets were based on had no connection with Steven Spielberg.

And who can forget the LEGO Racers theme, which has had licensing with Lamborghini, Ferrari, and the Williams F1 racing team?

So it's not unprecedented at all for TLG to release licenses from separate companies under the same theme branding. This is why the Marvel and DC license acquisitions got two separate press releases on LEGO.com.

Hey guys, has anyone else noticed that that My Little Pony entry on CUUSOO has been taken down? I think it's pretty obvious as to why that would happen, but can anyone find an archived version of the page or something? It's possible that like the page for the Ghost in the Shell project it'll have more information on why this has happened.

I honestly have no idea, but if Hasbro is half as diligent about protecting their copyrights, trademarks and signature logos as The Lego Group is, they may have objected to such an active posting at a site owned by a direct competitor. While many people mentioned in the comments that My Little Pony was a Hasbro property, the last time I checked the project page, the proposal itself did not openly declare it. As such, just as TLG doesn't allow anyone to a Lego logo in their proposal photos for fear that people will misconstrue as an endorsement of the product, Hasbro might have objected to their IP being posted in such a way as to suggest that TLG owed My Little Pony.

As I said, this is pure conjecture on my part, but I know some blood sucking leeches, uh, I mean corporate lawyer types, and from they way they talk about cease and desist orders on intellectual property infringement, such a scenario would not surprise me at all.

The My Little Pony project may have been one I really liked, but I think it's good precedent for TLG to have taken down a proposal for reasons other than inappropriate content.

Perhaps Hasbro will take a note and consider producing MLP Kre-O products. They may be inferior quality, but in general the My Little Pony products that currently exist aren't consistently high-quality, and in some ways Kre-O sets (provided they're not ugly beyond recognition) could benefit simply by virtue of being building toys.

Meanwhile, speaking as a brony, it's not like we can't continue to go without My Little Pony building toys. Part of the thing that made My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic unique is that the show had redeeming value to a lot of people, male and female, beyond merely being a vehicle for selling the toys. Hopefully that's something toy companies in general, including LEGO and Hasbro, will take to heart with their girl-oriented product lines. There's a huge market out there for companies to exploit if they can find a way to make their characters resonate with buyers in such a profound way.

I am more surprised that the My Little Pony Project existed for as long as it did at Cuusoo more so than it being rejected...

I have to admit that whoever created the project did a wonderful job representing the theme in Lego form, but it was just an idea that had no chance from the beginning...

It seems the Dark Bucket has failed review. Another 'foregone conclusion' deal- looks like Lego wasn't willing to mess with the basic concept too much for this one. Here's hoping the next few projects in line (Sandcrawler, Space Marines, Exo Suit) will fare better on the pre-reviews.

Sandcrawler has more chances to be produced, although it is much bigger than 10144.. It was already clear that lego won't accept dark bucket, their licence agreement shouldn't allow this, because LEGO couldn't produce sets with only minifigures in star wars theme. (they pass through it in promo sets, but i think production of so big set full of minifigures won't be so flawless).

Anyway sandcrawler has big chances, and if so it will be first cuusoo set to be produced in the currently active set. Don't know what they will do. They could either make in Star Wars UCS or produce as Cuusoo set.

Also till the current moment we hadn't seen real big cuusoo sets. (Yes, everybody wants them, but all the sets released till the current moment have less than 500 parts) So i think we should wait for the LEGO decision about western modular town, if they will release such a big set, then UCS Sandcrawler has all chances to be real LEGO set. (may be it will shrink a bit)

I think part of that depends on what supporters have pledged to pay for such a product. If a majority of them understand realistically what such a product would cost and are willing to pay that, a larger product would be understandable. But if many of the supporters only pledged to pay $100 or some similarly low amount, the product would probably be produced at a smaller scale, if at all.

A little bit late, but for the supporters of the MLP project, you guys should read this. From what I can tell, it's a response from Hasbro about the project. Quite interesting.

And that right there is why it sadly never had any chance on CuuSoo. TLG's largest competitor is not simply the license holder, they are the owner of the IP., and they have an in house brick company.

Does anyone know how long it will be before Lego tell us what passed the review?

Looking at their rough estimates in their review guidelines the technical reviews take about 8 weeks plus an unknown amount of time for business case and licensing issues. So of the four we will probably hear on the Western Town in 2 to 3 months. The other three will be longer since they all involve licenses that Lego does not currently have.

Unless of course they get shot down in the initial brand fit review. Which as we have seen can happen fast. For these sets it seems that longer is better news for the most part, as it means the set is winding its way through the process still.

Lovely bug, I could see LEGO doing it in some sort of action theme.

Yeah, Lego Insect Riders. I'd be all over that. It doesn't seem like something totally out of the realms of possibility either. Pharoah's Quest has Scarabs. Atlantis has a big underwater scorpion thing. Insects could retask dome technic and hero factory type parts. Supported!
