After the not so succesfull Cheetah, I decided to make another quad. This time I used a central synchronised system, which moves all 4 feet, so they are always in sync. But to move each leg independently the outer part of les can be inidividually adjusted by an M motor and a worm. This way all legs can move independently, yet always stay in sync when walking. This breakthrough allowed me to save on functions and add new ones. Also fur, lots of it in shape of 500+ antnnas.

There are a total of 8 functions:

- walking: Powered by an Xl motor.

- 4 M motors to move each leg independently

- an M motor for tilting front legs via MLA's

- M motor for flexing spine sideways

- M motor for moving jaw and roaring (yes he roars)

- PF lights

Rear headlights used as eyes, lid up by PF:

Woofy in his normal walking position:

In order to prevent the legs from ripping out I used 6L links:

One normal sized LA move the spine sideways, so you can steer the walking beast:

p1150836.jpg

Tail is built out of normal beams connected via frictionless beams in order to add some swing into it.

p1150837.jpg

The underside is not decorated as its usually not visible. You can see the MLA's for tiliting legs, gears that power the waling functions of the legs and the U joints in front legs, where they tilt.

p1150838.jpg

The front jaw moves via a worm gears and can bite quite hard.

p1150840.jpg

Notice how all teeth align:

The 4 PF receivers are crammed on the sides of the wolf:

p1150842.jpg

Looking from above, I am really pleased with the smooth, slim shape of the wolf.

And at last the controller is also quite complex:

Here's a video of the beast:

I am also planning to make LDD instructions for sale, if anyone is interested.

Wow, really cool and fun build!

Great job on creating something ordinary out of lego's

love the picture of the bottom, shows some nice techniques!

IS it possible to make the legs lift of from the ground while walking? Would be nice...

It would be possible to lift one leg and balance on three, but walking with lifting legs would require a much stronger, less flexible body.

WOW!

It walks nicely, but have you though to add some grip to the bottom of the feet or should I say paws? :classic: It could make it a bit faster?

I am really glad to see a walking four legged animal built by you. Good job. The amount of antennas used for its fur is just crazy.

Thanks guys! I did try rubber beams for paws, but it caused more troubles, than good. The building went through several phases, with each trying to reduce the number of bricks and making evrtyhing smaller and stronger. All in all about 3 prototypes and arround a week. Oh anyone needs antennas? I got some 800 left

Wow, Jernej, your Lego Technic Black Wolf is fantastic!  I like how he can sit, scratch his back, and "sashay" along the floor. Can the wolf do the "Moonwalk"?

I would be most interested in purchasing your LDD instructions (when they are available). I cannot think of a larger, more capable animal walker than your creation!

WOW this is epic! I've been thinking of building a pneumatic crocodile among other things when I get back to building lego, now i'm inspired!

I'm really jealous about this MOC. This is what could be a cool Flagship.

Lots of PF, remote controlled and lots of fun to play with. Off course, the official Version would be a bit more simple than yours because of the costs. I would love to see building instructions though. :classic: I if would build a copy I wouldn't use that many antenna, but still, looks good. I take it, taking all those antenna apart is a pain. They always seem to separate, leaving the round base attached to the model and holding the rod in your hands.

The 'roahr' comes from the Dino creator ?

Awesome model. It's good to see unusual concepts like this built out of Technic. I especially like how it can perform complex actions by combining different motor functions.

Since its chrsitmas and all....instructions are now free!

Download them:

LXF FILE

Remember to check these images for help:

attach.png

battery_box.png

mini_linear_actuator.png

pf_lights.png

universal_joint.png

And the readme (without e-mail for spammers):

Open the woofy.lxf file with Lego digital designer.

If you dont have it, you can download it for free from:

http://ldd.lego.com/

Once you opened the file click F7 to generate instructions. Due to the size and number of pieces the process will take about an hour or more, depending on your PC.

Due to LDD limitations the power functions battery box, mini linear actuators, power functions lights and the old universal joint are improvised from standard bricks.

Also as instructed on the attach.png picture you should attach the top plates to bottom bricks and attach the the linear actuator on the 3 stud long axle..

I used an old red differential (3712c01), but the newer 4 stud long one (9244a) should be enough.

In my opinion the wolf should work with the AAA battery box (88000-1) instead of the rechargable one (x1962cx1).

Hope you enjoy this little gift:
