Corweena Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 184c Hello EB! I got bored this weekend, so I decided to build my first Pirate MOC (since I just got my sets last month). I just finished reading Patrick O'Brien's novel Desolation Island, and I thought that it would be a perfect name for a pirate hideout Its still a work in progress, and I'll update it as I finish it up. Captain Corweena has sent a few of his men ahead to prepare his newest hideout. While he sails off searching for treasure, his men will begin outfitting the hideout. The officers standing under a palm tree studying the map. pirates unloading supplies underground stream that is the islands only source of fresh water a hundred years ago, the Island served as a prison for Spanish political prisoners who mysteriously "disappeared." Captain Corweena found a map of the island, and decided it was perfect for a new hideout and treasure locker. Crew members preparing the hideout I'll be working on the interior next, and should have more pics up in the next few days. Quote
Bjornu Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Nice creation, It gives me an old classic feel here I love the people that try recreate a classic feel, I'm one of the people that always tries. great creation Greetz Bjornu Quote
Corweena Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 Thanks Bjournu! I grew up in the 90s when I believe Lego was in its "Golden Age." I've tried to incorporate a classic feel to the set, like I did in my previous MOC (seen here http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=59923&st=0) Quote
Pavel Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Pirates islands is what I like most, I'll be looking forward to your progress! Quote
Big Cam Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Very nice creation, it really feels like an old school MOC, it has that 90's feel, and I mean that as a compliment. Quote
Cpt. Tristan Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Ah, when I see this, all of the old sets go flashing through my head. By that I mean I agree with everyone else: it has that classic Pirate feel. Also, I've seen your forestmen MOC, good job on that. But one question: What did you do to that poor pirate's back? ~Cpt. Tristan Quote
Corweena Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 thanks for the kind words everyone Ah, when I see this, all of the old sets go flashing through my head. Tristan I'm not exactly sure how that happened....he was in with my cousin's sets. I'm guessing he was some kind of keychain or other decoration, since his head and legs are glued on. the stud on his back could be useful though..... Quote
Corweena Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 (edited) Hey guys! here is an update. Over the week, the pirates put in some work in preparation for the arrival of Captain Corweena. They outfitted the top of the rock with fortressing made of whatever materials they could find, and added to cannons. rock opens up to reveal the interior I'll have more updates and pics tomorrow! Edit: pics are too big, I'll resize tomorrow Edited October 15, 2011 by Corweena Quote
Captain Roger Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 i like your MOC mate because isa great pirate fortress, i only dislike two points: the door seems to be a prison, not a door put real LEGO cannons, they look better than these customized cannons. Quote
Corweena Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 Thanks! In response to the 2 things you dislike.... In my first post, I wrote that the island used to be a prison.....so hence the door And, I would put real cannons, but I don't have any, right now Quote
Big Cam Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 i like your MOC mate because isa great pirate fortress, i only dislike two points: the door seems to be a prison, not a door put real LEGO cannons, they look better than these customized cannons. I think both of these are great opinions, but also they are just that, personal opinions. I think the prison door makes sense, even if it wasn't a prison (which it is) It's a small fortress, a steel barred door makes sense. Also as awesome as the LEGO cannons are, the customs give it a different feel, it's not like the LEGO cannons are the only types of cannons in history. I like this, and I hope you keep expanding on it. Quote
Captain Roger Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Oops! Sorry mate, i only looked the photos, buy i didn't read your story Quote
Hiawatha Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 This looks like a great place for pirates to hide their treasures! It also looks very well defended and it will be very hard for the Imperials to find it Quote
Corweena Posted October 24, 2011 Author Posted October 24, 2011 Its a nice quiet Sunday on Desolation Island......the stronghold is complete, and Captain Corweena is not due to arrive for another week. The officers are plotting the island's coordinates, and the crew is relaxing. Little did Johnny pirate know what awaited him though..... the pirates seem to have the upper hand..... until.....more islanders arrive in a catamaran! they barely made it in! More to come soon! Quote
Laura Beinbrech Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 I'm really digging this pirate moc! Will the Pirates hold off the Islanders? Will the Imperial Guard show up and own everybody in sight? Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of Desolation Island!!! Quote
Pavel Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The captain better get back as soon as possible! Quote
Corweena Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 thanks guys! I'll be snapping pics for the next scene tonight, and should have it up by tomorrow Quote
Corweena Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 Its been a long week for the Pirates.......the Islanders have laid siege to them, and plan on starving them out. its looks like the dead pirate wasn't so lucky..... the secret upper entrance into the cave Will the Pirates succeed in driving off the islanders? Or will they die trying? To be continued...... Quote
Skipper Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Exciting story, it's been fun to read and I can't wait for the next installment. Poor pirates. "Go go go go go," I swear they say that in every Star Wars Episode. WIth regards to the MOC itself, I appreciate the classic style but I feel like the shape of the hill/cliff is too square. If you were going for a broken-down outpost that's fine but I thought it was meant to represent a cliff, in which case I think the curves should be more natural. Quote

More scenes coming up soon! But yes I realized the shape is kind of odd.....if it was summer, I'd tear it down and reshape it. But I'm a full-time college student so time is very valuable. Quote
Corweena Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 The conclusion of last episode...... The pirates seem to have caught the islanders by surprise! The aftermath of the battle.....the Islanders are defeated! Quote
De Sandman Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Ha ha ha, i love this story and i was waiting for the end (or will there be more ) Great build and great story. Quote
Corweena Posted November 9, 2011 Author Posted November 9, 2011 thanks! there is one more part coming up Then the island will be torn down for my next MOC (which is in the brainstorming phase right now) Quote
