brickcitydepot Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 These are 2 new modular buildings that I finished recently. The first one is Chili's. I showed the first Chili's modular building on mocpages some time last year and it was very well received and I got numerous requests for instructions to be made. I finally did it and this time I made Chili's even better with a newly designed roof, eating area, kitchen and I added bathrooms. The 2nd model is a pet shop alternative build. I miss the pictures on the back of boxes showing what you could make with the pieces in that set. I hope Lego brings that back at some point. Anyway the pictures are of my 3rd and 4th try at building a modular with the pieces available. Just experimenting with some ideas. streifen Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The services on the roof of Chilli's are great! and that is 1 HUGE chilli! on the front! the skinny house looks nice too! with the sidewalk next to it. Quote
Xarrzan Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The Chili's resturant is great! There are close quarters in the kitchen which is very realistic hehe Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I the Chili's Restaurant 'brickcitydepot', the sign is AWESOME so too the interior - a huge ......Brick On 'brickcitydepot' totally ! Quote
sonicstarlight Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 All three are excellent! This version of Chili's is a big step up from the original, and the original was pretty fantastic. I agree that Lego should put pictures of alternate models on the backs of the modular boxes again. I really regret not getting a second Cafe Corner when I had the chance to try and build the alternate for that. That skinny building is really interesting, but in the end I prefer the corner option. Blogged on Brick Town Talk! Quote
Vindicare Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I wish we'd get a restaurant like that as a Modular. Sure, it wouldn't be 3 stories like the others, but the detaikswoukd be there. Nice job. Quote
lord garmadon Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 well done! very well thought out everything turned out even a WC, kitchen. Quote
LegoSjaak Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I like the front of the restaurant most! The sign, the Chili and the brick wall, made of different colored plates! Some MOCs you remember, when you see them again in 2 years or so... well..this is an outstanding example of one of those MOCs!!! Well done !! Greetz, LegoSjaak Quote
Cecilie Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I love that chili's building! The brickwork on the front is great, and the way you've made the entrance makes it look so inviting. Also awesome job on the sign and chili . And of course, the interior is nothing short of brilliantly executed. And great job on those alternate models too, it's always fun to see what can be done with only the bricks of one set . Quote
mattb483 Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 WOW! I'm in love with you chilies restaurant. The outside sign and the chilie pepper look awesome. Also the inside kitchen, dinning area, and bar are just great looking! Well done! Quote
TheMagician Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 This is a great model. Very well done. I'd love to buy the instructions from your webpage but am a bit hesistant because I have no idea how much I'd have to pay for all the bricks I need. I saw that you get a part list when you buy the instructions but it would be nice to know in advance. Quote
HighFlyer Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 They are all brilliant, but the "Chilli" restaurant is one of the best MOC Modulars I have ever seen. Stunning. Quote
lorax Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I love all the buildings, but the Chilli building is brilliant. It has a real built in the 70s feel with the stone work and I think it is gorgeous. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 This Chili's restaurant is fantastic ...I love the logo and the big chili pepper outside this wonderful building! Great idea and awesome work! Quote
L@go Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I love the updates to your restaurant. I built your original version not long ago - it's sitting right on top of my piano at the moment, in my modular street - and really liked it, but thought it would have been nice if the interior was a bit more detailed. Now you've done just that; the bar and toilets are very nice additions. I also like the exterior very much, just the way I liked the original - the brickwork is what really makes this pop, in my opinion. What I really missed on the original, though, were a couple of windows on the back wall. The kitchen is almost like a bunker, with no openings (apart from the door) letting light in. I think a window or two (in the new version, with the toilets, you don't really have room for more than one) would make it even better. As for the other buildings, my favourite is the narrow corner building. That's a very good idea. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Awesome Chilis 'bcd' The Detailed work is fantastic!.I was just at our local Chilis yesterday and am finishing the last 2 chip & queso dips right now I must say this one looks much better than ours. Keep up the great work Quote
Juppy Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Nice. Hope that we can see a finalized version of the alternate build for the Pet Shop soon! It would be nice to actually build something custom from instructions without going mad finding the bricks online. Quote
brickcitydepot Posted October 20, 2011 Author Posted October 20, 2011 Nice. Hope that we can see a finalized version of the alternate build for the Pet Shop soon! It would be nice to actually build something custom from instructions without going mad finding the bricks online. That was the exact idea for this one. We wanted to provide instructions for a model that they had the pieces for already. I'm not real happy with the versions I have done so far. I might put it off for a little while and come back to it. I am more tempted to do the same thing with fire brigade as I like the colors more in that model. Quote
mautara Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Great and realistic modular buildings! Full of nice details too. I like them a lot! Quote
Konajra Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Great restaurant. I can really appreciate all the little details. well done. That chilli up front... great work Quote
Holodoc Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Very well done, brickcitydepot! There are a lot of details I really, really like and that can't be found elsewhere: The giant chili, of course, the clever writing on the wall, the lovely detailed interior. It even has paintings on the wall! The air-conditioning on the roof is pure genious. I might copy that in a MOC of mine. And it comes in a very pleasing color sheme. Thank you for sharing your ideas. You have no idea how costly and hard it is to source for bricks online for someone living in asia. I actually liked the corner building alot! Quote
stefan86 Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 The chilli restaurant is a great idea :), I hope to building a restaurant some day :), I will call you for some ideas :) Quote
Dakar A Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I love that Chili's! But if my local franchise is anything to go by, you've got 1 thing wrong. The bathroom stalls are TOO big. It is almost impossible to get into one of the stalls, and even harder to close the door and relieve yourself. Quote
