brickballer Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Man I hate resellers no matter the choice of game. Lego, sneakers etc.
Off the wall Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Ordered the new UN architecture series offering. Ordered from Amazon. I'm Amazon prime. Order yesterday, received today in less that 24 hours. I'm Amazon prime, I selected free two day shipping. Since I live in a large metro area and they have an 'end of runway' operation in Memphis, I got overnight service for free. Interesting, but when I first looked on the Lego site early yesterday, they showed the UN as out of stock. Changed a few hours later to available, but by then I'd ordered though Amazon. Since my order through lego would have been under $75, I would have paid for shipping plus it would have taken a day or two longer in transit.
ep3_lol Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 TLG has always had fantastic customer service whenever I've dealt with them...I'd rather just put the money straight in their pocket. But there is no excuse for an item arriving like that from anyone. I ship things fairly regularly and packing items in a way that eliminates damage from the typical rough handling UPS/FedEx/USPS/etc. gives them is not a difficult thing to do. Whenever I've ordered from Amazon, I've always just received the item loose in the box- not cool in my opinion.
Off the wall Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 My Amazon packages have those plastic airbags inside of them. The UN set, like all of the others including the large Tower Bridge box, got here in perfect condition. I live two miles from a Lego store, and I still order a lot through Amazon. More convenient than going to the mall and faster than Lego.com. No points, but no shipping charges on small orders via Amazon. I did breakdown and buy the Sydney Opera house at the mall Lego Store. Walking through the mall always reminds me of why I shop on the Internet.
DrJB Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 In the end, whether it's LEGO shop@home, Amazon or whoever, and however well it's packaged, you're at the mercy of the postal service or courier. I agree it's infuriating when your precious cargo arrives damaged, but I've never been refused a replacement when that's happened. Dr. D. I had a real bad experience few years back with a set directly from TLG. The outer box was missing a big chunk, the inner lego box was totally damaged, and even the plastic tray inside was chewed up. UPS simply left on my door step and walked awya ... lucky I was home and called the driver right away telling him I did not acept the box, he simply shrugged and left. I was infuriated, called UPS, complained all I could, and they could not care less. I called TLG, they sent me a new set and told me to keep the messed up one. I ended up with two copies of the Silver Champion. I still buy my Legos from TLG, but one thing I noticed, they never use UPS anymore, only FEDEX. Another mis-hap happened again 2 weeks ago, the UPS guy asked my wife to sign, she did, when in fact the fine print said there were two packages when in fact he delivered only one. Amazon reimbursed the full amount ... The conclusion, it is not Amazon or TLG, but more like The shippers who could not care less. I guess statistically these events are covered by their insurance, so it is cheaper for them to operate the way they do.
Hey Joe Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Amazon US recently shipped my 7938 Yellow Cargo Train in a plastic bag, can you believe it? It arrived completely smashed inside the torn bag. They sent me another one after I called to complain, but it arrived in a similar bag, and smashed as well. They're normally pretty good about their packaging, so I was shocked and disheartened. Anyone else have a similar experience with them? Next time I buy a train it'll be at Toys R Us utilizing price matching. Joe
Daedalus304 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Yes, actually, i recently bought a ucs b wing off amazon and they simply put the shipping sticker right on the box!! Needless to say, my box was crushed, bags were torn, and parts missing. I'm rather disappointed to hear that this sort of unacceptable shipping behavior is their new mode of operations. Doubt i'll buy anything from them again.
KringlesBricks Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I'm always hesitate ordering from Amazon..I ordered the Green Grocer off Amazon (because I waited too long, and it was sold out on the LEGO S@H - afraid it'll never come back). So, I quickly found one for the same price that S2H had it listed...ordered it on Amazon...then the box came to my apartment all smashed and the box all damaged. NEVER ordered from Amazon again...not sure it was the postal service, or the actual company shipping it out mis handling it...

I find the stories very confusing as I have been buying from Amazon for years (don't know how many, but lots) and I have never had a problem with the packaging directly from Amazon. From the third party sellers on Amazon, well that's a different story, it all depends on what the third party sellers consider reasonable packaging. As a result I only look for items directly from Amazon or Amazon Fulfillment. I have Amazon Prime, so I figure I've already paid for shipping so I look for items with Amazon Prime shipping. Posting your experience here is a good idea as it lets those of us in the community know about a potential problem. The next thing you should do is to post feedback on Amazon about the shipment and if it is third party seller, post feedback directly there as well. If the seller is reputable seller they will do something about it, if not, I would not buy from that seller again. IHTH, Andy D Edited October 19, 2013 by Andy D

Joe Although your experience concerns a train set, it's not really a topic for Train Tech, so I've merged your topic with an existing thread about Amazon's shipping. I have also moved the merged thread to the BSTF forum.

Yeah, sorry I didn't specify, but I bought the train set directly from Amazon US - absolutely no third party or artificial sweeteners involved. It really was shocking as I also have been buying from them for years and years, and have always found their packaging adequate. There's another buying location that I had forgotten about in my original post; the 98th Lego shop here in St. Louis, Missouri. I was there today, great stuff. Joe

But no, sadly, the shipping sticker was Amazon Fulfillment Services and I did indeed purchase it from Amazon themselves. What really sucks is that I ordered it from Amazon instead of Bricklink specifically because I expected to be able to trust that they would be very careful with the packaging and I'd get my UCS box in great condition - UCS sets are really the only ones that I care about keeping the boxes for. The discovery that bags inside were ripped and missing pieces was of course the last straw. I did get a 40% refund on it, so they at least handled the follow up well, but I have no reason to trust their shipping again.
talos Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 I know this is an old thread, but I just got the last part of a 3 item order of Lego through Amazon (them directly, not a reseller on their site). It was sent from Hebron, KY, to me here in Calif., and it arrived all squashed down. The other part of the order came from a close by dist. center, and was in perfect shape. I have gotten other things from the KY location before, and they have been barely still inside the box when it got here, so I am beginning to think they employ some deficient people there...LOL. My Lego set was sent using UPS 'SmartPost' (that must be a joke, I think!) which took a week to get across country, and then handed over to the local USPS to deliver. The package was not taped up tightly, so there was slack in the box lid and they only stuffed a bunch of crumpled brown paper in to pad it out, so naturally it got crushed along the way. The Lego box is slightly crunched, but the seals are intact, so I think its OK. I have to think twice about ordering from Amazon
VintageLegoEra Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Here too the same...i have ordered in March 2014 from Amazon and the Lego box was having creases and dents...the shipping box was poor and damaged too and it didnt have a ny protection to protect the Lego Box. was loose in the shipping box. When i saw it how it looks like, i was shocked. Immdiatly opened it at the collection area and investigate the Lgo Box...Thanks God it was Sealed and all parts are intact!!.. I will consider buying from Amazon sets below $50 not above!!
Dr Leg O Brick Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I've ordered fifty plus Lego sets from Amazon and, not only did they arrive much faster than I thought (one working day in three cases), they arrived fine bar one dented corner (I got the set 50% off, so I didn't mind). Guess I live near a distribution centre...

He told me one time a box full of lego parts got dumped all over the floor, stuff was everywhere. Most of it was just scooped up and tossed out.
Dharkan Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 (edited) As an international buyer (from Turkey), Amazon is the sweetest thing has happened to me. I even bought huge sets like Millenium Falcon and Pet Shop and they did great job with packaging and handling. They also sent me replacement when I had problem with my sets (small ones of course). Dr Leg O Brick Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) It was 50% off before I got it, I buy all my sets to play with display, i.e. I rip the box open as fast as humanly possible and open all the bags like a caffeined idiot. I keep my boxes in storage, so personally I can live with one battered Castle box out of hundreds. Edited June 28, 2014 by Dr Leg O Brick
fred67 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I've not had an issues with LEGO sets from Amazon. On the contrary, I've had worse problems from LEGO themselves. I've had other items (like heavy packages of canned goods) arrive totally destroyed; FedEx even sent one back before it even got to me... but never LEGO. In fact, I've just ordered another set (Architecture Eiffel Tower) because, as I was getting dog food, I took a look and saw it for a few dollars off.
