Jinzo, that MOC is awesome. What joints hold that guy up? Does he truly support his own weight in all different poses?

The shoulders are click joints like the metallic blue ones that debuted in the Super Battle Droid.

The elbows are Throwbot arms.

The waist turns with another click joint.

The pelvic and knee joints are... are uh... these guys:

http://peeron.com/inv/parts/47300

And possibly the most important of all, the ankles are that brand new ball joint that has the axle hole all the way through.

I pretty much built this guy last year, but he was annoying to keep in a standing pose... UNTIL the new balls this year. Now, with a strong enough housing that doesn't separate around them, you can make mad tall mocs.

Yah, he poses. And he doesn't fall over... even when I have him holding his heavyass gun woth both hands, connected to his chest:

http://www.maj.com/gallery/JINZONINGEN73/J...US/image001.jpg

The thing that makes his ankles not give out is the foot resting on a strong housing.

The thing that lets me pose him in a hunched over position (not shown) is that the upper knee can rest on a strong lower leg.

He's pretty much complete, but unlike any other moc I ever made, I tweak him CONSTANTLY.

I'll save him for some giant contest or something. Lord knows his appearance will be a little different next time i take pics... which I've (serious) done through about 20 different revisions.

Here's his nasty first version lol:

... ...what's this topic about again? :-D

I really have to say that I am disgusted with the way many people are acting in this topic. True, this is supposed to be just a joke, but it seems to be a rather cruel and mean one.

The topic now seems to be split between two groups: The "it's a joke" people, and the "well, its not funny" people. I really am tired of seeing all the arguing, mean joke making, and megabloks bashing in this topic, so I'd say the only smart and reasnable thing to do would be to lock this topic.

I certainly hope that one of the moderators does that.... *sad*

That's called "life". You'll encounter more of that in your future, and not just about LEGO or MB.

Now you're a bit sensitive. I think the general atmosphere in this thread has calmed down considerably.

I know you like MB, too, but now you're acting like people insult you when they joke about or bash MB.

I certainly hope that one of the moderators does that.... *sad*

I don't see a reason why they should...

Nope, this one:

The axle hole goes all the way through now. *sweet*

You were talkin' the ankles and wrists, right?

Yep. If the axle goes all the way through, I guess the hands and feet are more likely to not fall off, as compared to the problem we have when the axle goes only half way through.

However, it still does not address the looseness of the joint, which is always a problem with ankles since they have to hold the whole weight of the beast.

As stated earlier TLC stole the brick deisgn from an english guy so, well :-D

I dare You. Come to Denmark and say that again |-/

No hate towards people who collect or even play with MB, I just don't understand. But then again I don't shop in IKEA either...

ROFL, good job, Jinzo.

Seriously, I just don't like Megabloks. The Brick quality is just worse than Lego. Plus, I grew up with Lego, and despite some of the really interesting sets Megabloks has had, I can't say that it would stay together as well as a Lego set.

Plus... the Lego Minifig is just so much more customizable. Have you seen my entry in the Superhero contest? Could you do that with a MB set?

The Bloks forum is probably a product of the North American market, the largest market for building bricks at the moment. MegaBloks has a competitive advantage there because they can retail for slightly less than Lego, so they have a deeper foothold. Right now there is quite a competition in the marketplace for brick space. Lego is mounting a major effort to regain market share by speeding up production and increasing the violent themes in some of their lines. MegaBloks has swallowed up a major school supply and toy manufacturer and now has much more visability, and has for years avoided head to head competition with Lego by adopting a different aethetic to their sets. And lowly Best-Lock has created a triple entente with Cobi of Poland and Oxford of Korea to flood the market with a new block line abandoning the old Best-Lock proportions for full compliance with the public domain Lego system measurements. In the last 7 months since the merger was announced they've released 22 sets that slavishly immitate the Lego aesthetic, but cost half as much and provide dozens of new system elements creating many hitherto unavailable MOC possibilities. These are indeed interesting times for the brick hobby, and the Bloks forum is one of the few places where the new developments are being discussed.

Hobbes, I was not saying that I was insulted when I wrote my last post. I was disgusted with the jokes about the members on The Blok Forum and their site, not the jokes about Megabloks itself. I think you must have misread me, but I probably wasn't being very clear anyway.

Bah, I'm tired of arguring about Megabloks. I think I'll stop posting in this topic before I cause any more confusion. *sad*

Well, you "sounded" insulted. If you weren't, my apologies. About the jokes I did understand you right and I still think the overall tone has calmed down, both about MB and the fans.

Your decision. Part of a discussion, though, is to accept different opinions. Without there wouldn't be a discussion and we'd all be living happily ever after and this message board would be dying of boredom.

... Maybe I shouldn't have made this topic.

No, that was ok. You did touch a hot potato, true, but that just adds "life" to the discussion. No worries, most ppl here are mature enough to handle this topic and not let it "slide into chaos" ;-)

I think you're being too touchy. They may not compare to EB or BZ, but there's neither the attempt to do so. When you want a community to grow, you give them more than 2 points to click their mouse on. I mean, I assume a forum is made to promote something you love that yuou want to share with others, so you also adorn it with other things of interest to not let things get obsessive or stale.

That's where the term "crappy forum" probably came in.

Of course I'm not sure how long it's been around, so it could just be the matter of they haven't made them yet... though the basic off-topic subjects aren't there... nor sub-categories for the different mb lines. :-|

Those are just common sense things you put up at the creation point of a forum, imo.

I don't DESPISE Megablocks, as the past few years they're coming into their own in NOT looking like Lego ripoffs in set packaging, decent sculpting, etc... And the NANO line is something Lego mecha builders need. Just think of ll the times you've been on Brickshelf, surfing kickass mecha designs in thumbnail, only to zoom in on them to find NASTY dogfaces made up of little more than 3 1x2 plates... most depressing.

Nonsense. I think it went well. Noone went over there going "LOL, YOU IDIOTS LIKE MEGABLOX LOL!!!!1111".

It was all pretty cordial and productive.

1) i don't think it's proper to bash any site for whatever reason. there used to be a bashing hype between EB and fbtb in the past. that wasn't particularly funny either and it didn't really do anybody any good. as some one said 'live and let live'

2) not so long ago, we, the Lego purists, started a topic about the wonders of 'playmobil' and we all agreed that's what we wanted lego to do. and we all got angry at Lego for not having those sets/themes produced. I can think of several things that Playmo has done in the past where lego will never ever go... I won't even start about lack of creativity and diversity in lego themes, not to mention the highly questionable strategy/decisions of not producing female minifigs, weapons,...

3) i wouldn't be too critical of MB-quality either... we have our own topics these days about the lousy Lego quality. Every time i open a new set, I pray that I'll get all the right parts undamaged and in the right colour... People are even complaining about the low quality of boxes...

4) according to european law, Lego has no right to claim the brick-concept as their own. It's not their patent, MB and others have the right to use it as well. if they chose to cut costs and produce lower quality stuff for a mainly American market where consumers prefer lower prices to higher quality, then so be it...

5) Yep, Lego was not the first to come up with the lego brick. I've actually seen brick concepts of that type in a Belgian museum, even though I'm not saying Lego 'stole' the concept. The company was just idealy placed at that point to do something with it on a large scale...

From Lego.com

"The brick in its present form was launched in 1958. The interlocking principle with its tubes makes it unique, and offers unlimited building possibilities. It's just a matter of getting the imagination going

So true, sne. I remember back when I was just lurking Eurobricks those word wars that were going on. You even once got "warned," Sne, not to "Become a FBTB'er," by one of eurobrick's members, if I can remember correctely. Ugh, I didn't enjoy reading those "jokes" at all.

one word

NNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if i registered there i would curl up and die!11

What were you saying about the overall tone calming down, hobbes? :-|

Mutant piraka, the jokes really getting old. It never really was that funny anyway, IMO.

Jeez...I go away for one day and look what you people get into :-P

Isn't it totally possible to honestly love BOTH LEGO and Megabloks? Well yeah, I'm living proof. I've never seen Megabloks put out a sweet set like the UCS Star Destroyer, just like I've never seen LEGO but out a set with quite the vibe as the Probuilder New York Fire Department ladder truck. There's enough room in the world for two great brick companies. If you don't like a set one of these companies puts out then just don't buy it.

The only thing I take issue with are the immature, close-minded brand snobs who post stuff like "OMFG! megabl0x iz teh suXX0rz! id die b4 id even touch a megabl0x! Leg0 is teh rulz!!!1111!!111"

Why don't you chime in as soon as you grow up okay? deino.gif

no, i would never buy a MB set for the 5 reasons i put out earlier. :-P i dont think i'm a lego snob though. :-P

i am sufficiently grown up but i still wont buy mb though. :-P

Posted

Well some mind MB...... Others dont.....

But both sites must understand that its peoples choice to like MB.....

Then again people must also understand that some have Lego as a ppassion, and MB is a kind of Treson...

Yeah, but... we're only like talking 1 maybe 2 people lol.

I dunno'. I know what you're trying to say, but when 4 different sets bought in a row have parts that turn white / CRACK when you simply do their intended function, snapping them together... do you not get the right to scream out loud that they blow?

But like I said on their site, my data is from back in 2001. They may have changed since then.

That could be an issue. I only really started collecting Megabloks in early 2001 and since then I've never had any sort of quality problem with them.

Although, I haven't bought a Megabloks set in over a year because it seems they've abandoned the Probuilder series in favor of more Dragons and Pyrates...sad really...

But see...that's where stuff like the LEGO Boeing jet steps in to fill the void ;-)
