"Well, it seems some outer force wants us to take the challenge. Alexis, I know you can make the shot, you are a good archer. You were lucky this time Orc." Tesni noticed the purple glow around Cysgodion once more...

Alexis walks to the agreed upon position. The hound began pacing, still keeping the party from making an attempt to free Oliveri. The orc ranger stands near Alexis yet out of the way should she try to attack him. "Don't mess up," The orc taunted.

The words of her friends rang loudly in the young elf's ears as she prepared her shot. She took aim, exhaled then released her arrow. Alexis was experienced beyond her 18 years of life as the arrow hit dead center of the target on Oliveri's head.

"AWESOME! My friends won't believe this!"

Before the party could celebrate, the orc ranger clapped loudly as he retrieved the target. "Well done elf! I had my doubts about a youngling such as yourself but a bullseye?! A high calibre of heroes produced from Heroica it seems." The orc's smile slowly faded as his mood became serious.

"Ah you remind me of myself at that age. Same skill and confidence in my ability as you. Of course that was not always the case. When I had reached about four seasons of age, my family and I moved to a peaceful free-orc settlement. The surrounding communities didn't want us there which led to much tension. Things finally erupted when an elven war party raided our village. As we were simple farmers and merchants, my people were easily slaughtered."

The party listened intently as the orc made his way back to the hound. "My mother hid me well...I was the only one to survive. I was discovered by a pair of liberal forest elves who adopted me and taught me their ways. Unfortunately for them, I slit their throats in their sleep once I felt I learned everything I could from them." He turned his gaze towards Alexis. "I never forgot my hatred for elves and your party travels with one. I will not let you have the boy. Prepare yourselves!"

"Someone target the hound, Cysgodion is extra powerful against humanoids, so I will attack the Orc Ranger from the Front Row!" Tesni looked to her teammates, Haldor and Ellaria would still be able to battle, there would be someone free to traget the dog.

"Foolish Orc, you shold have left us be!" The stone on Cysgodion glowed brighter.

"Hang on, I'll get the Maa'ri Hound from the back row."

Ignoring the nauseuous feeling caused by the poisoning, Ellaria sent a prayer to her goddess. She truly was by their side on this quest.

"Phew! By Sylvania that was a wonderful shot, Alexis! Now we just have to get rid of this boasting orc and his scabby dog."

Ellaria knew that her fire-elemental Ignis Fatuus would be especially effective against beasts, so she attacked the Ma'ari Hound from the front row.

The orc smirked. "You appear a bit, mannish in stature, Barbarian. Are you sure your momma's not an orc? Ah, the twins taught me that one...So, who will you send first to face me party leader?"

Tesni rushes the orc ranger and scores a hit. Her blade's dark energy damages the ranger further. No longer underestimating his opponent, the orc retreats into the brush before Hoke can connect with his sword. The hound wimpers as the elf ranger lands a critical strike. Haldor chases the ranger into the trees and swings at him. He scores what would have been a devastating hit but the surrounding brush slows his swing, halving the damage. Ellaria prays to Sylvania and restores the party's health to full before suffering one point in damage from her poisoned condition.

"Your poor insults dishonour you, Orc. Not that you have much honour, betrayer." The purple glow had spread more quickly this battle, already it had encircled her arm and marked her face, this time it wasn't pulsating angrily, merely displaying an intracate and arcane pattern.

With heads on a swivel, Hoke and Tesni still can't find the orc ranger. From cover the orc unleashes four arrows. One hits the barbarian's leg as another grazes her arm. Hoke is also struck but his shield mitigates the damage. The enemy archer's precision allows him to hit Alexis for full damage even though she's standing in the back row. Alexis recovers and ever the advocate for animal cruelty, scores a critical hit on the hound. The mutt looks betrayed as it retreats from the elf. The silent cleric, still in pursuit of the orc in the brush persists with his wild assault and clips his target. The hound continues to limp backward right into the poisoned cleric. Ellaria raises Ignis Fatuus high and cracks it on the canine's skull. Blood squirts onto the cleric's face. The hound is still mobile as Ignis Fatuus sets his fur alight. Ever the experienced warrior, the archer's dog stops, drops and rolls, extinguishing the flame before he collaspes. Ellaria takes one point of damage from the shrinking sickness effect but it doesn't register as her adrenaline is still pumping.

The orc ranger remains. And he is pissed.

(OOC: I only took damage yes? Shouldn't it be 13/18, as he is Level 5, not 10 and I am a human not an elf. Or am I getting confused)

The arrow caused a dull ache and stung as Tesni snapped the shaft shorter to prevent it getting caught on anything. The cut in her arm could be dealt with later. "It is too bad for the dog, he was a loyal beast. Betrayer, you chose this battle and you shall meet the consequences!" Searching the brush for the orc she called out her attack "I will target the Orc from the Front Row!"

The orcish archer comes out from his cover and kneels before his dog. Tears form in his eyes and he turns to the party. Before he can utter a curse, the encouraged warrior hits the ranger from behind. As he falls to the ground, the orc finds the strength to let loose two more arrows. One hits Ellaria and the other Alexis but she receives 5 damage as she's standing in the back row. The orc's biggest mistake the entire battle was ignoring the silent cleric's assault as he doesn't hear Haldor sneak up on him. Ellaria suffers one point of damage from the poison.

One heavily wounded orc remains.
