The battle versus the melee members of the Maa'ri commences. Alexis starts things off by shooting three arrows in succession. Two hit the rogue for a total of 40 damage and the other hits the warrior for 20. The plated tank's armor reduces that damage by half. Alexis's new quiver allows her to attack once more. The enemy rogue, learning from her mistake quickly sidesteps the next attack in the form of what surely would have been a life-ending strike from the barbarian had it connected. Ablesword takes advantage of Tesni's distraction and scores a critical hit on the rogue for 25 damage. Haldor, not used to being able to speak, attempts to engage the orc warrior. Not taking any chances, the battle veteren raises his shield to protect himself and/or his partner from the next two incoming attacks. Ellaria takes a sip from a ladle of Goblin Gumbo and restores everyone to full health. Haldor takes one point of damage due to the poisoned effect from Szalinski's ray gun.

Both enemy combatants remain. Will the party stop the rogue in time?

Maa'ri Warrior - Free Hit against Alexis

The orc rogue sprints for the crying gnomeling. Alexis celebrates as she releases her shot at the back of the fleeing orc. Unfortunately the orc's partner dives to cover her escape and the arrow sticks harmlessly in his shield. Astonished that she missed her target, the elf gives a quizzical look as the warrior grins from behind his shield. In a stunning display of speed and agility, the orc rogue abruptly stops from her sprint, pivots and runs up the back of the warrior before leaping from his shoulders towards the ranger in what must be an often practiced move. Alexis manages to stumble backward as the rogue flies towards her scoring a minor hit. As soon as her feet touch the ground, the orc continues her assualt by attempting to poison Ellaria who is standing nearby. The application is a success but unknown the to the rogue, her efforts were wasted on the cleric. Ellaria, taking advantage of her proximity to the rogue, takes a swing. Unfortunately the warrior is there once again to protect his partner's escape. Tesni and Hoke rush the rogue but she speedily dances past them, evading the barbarian's strike before somersaulting over the warrior and stabbing him from behind. Her precision allows her dagger to find its way under Hoke's armor. He feels the full effect of her strike. Haldor can only heal his friends to full health as the party watches the rogue pick up young Nico and head into the brush. The warrior takes advantage of the party's pause to bash Alexis with his shield. Haldor takes one point of damage from the poison.

One enemy remains and a child has been lost.

Alexis's three arrows find her target, enraging the warrior. He takes a wild swing and hits everyone standing in the front row. He then issues a taunt to draw the party's focus which he already has. The nimble cleric Ellaria scores a hit while Cysgodion easily slices through the warrior's defenses. Hoke takes up his shield to protect his teammates the next round while Haldor swings and misses. Haldor takes one point of damage from the poison in his system.

Alexis continues firing arrows in rapid succession widdling away at the orc's health and slowing his assault. The warrior takes a swing at Ellaria but Hoke is there to shield her. The enemy orc retreats behind his shield as Tesni and Hoke relentlessly pound away at his defense. The proud leader of the Maa'ri is finally overwhelmed as his shield is knocked aside and Haldor lands the final blow defeating the him. Haldor takes one point of damage as the shrinking sickness effect fades. The magic of the goblin gumbo wears off and Ellaria's attack speed returns to normal.

THE BATTLE IS VICTORIOUS!

All party members gain one level of experience with the exception of Alexis and Tesni who gain half a level. The enemy drops 50 gold and a pair of boots.

Defeated but not knocked out, the proud warrior refuses to fall. "You fight good, heroes. Da next time you see us, us bring all our friends." The party didn't bother closing in on him as they knew what was next. Smoke bomb and poof, warrior was gone.

With thoughts on the speedy rogue, the elf's compass spins without end. Alexis adjusts her thoughts to Nico yet her compass produces the same effect. It seems the crafty rogue is a true escape artist and is unable to be tracked. Hmmm.

Hoke inspected the pair of boots left by the orc warrior, wanting to add them to his armor.

Frustrated that her compass isn't working, Alexis concentrates on the children and tries again.

"I am so sorry that we lost your brother, Oliveri, but I assure you we will get your sister and return you two to your father. I'm sure the Maa'ri will not harm your brother, either. Alright guys, let's move out!"

Ellaria giggled by herself as she realized she was using military terms. Quite the warrior she'd become...

"Oh, and I reckon we all get 10 gold from that battle, Tesni?"
