Microscale map sounds great and I like the idea of guilds too, you could go obvious

Warriors Guild

Mage Guild

Theives Guild

or you could go more Lego Like

Falcon's Guild

Forestmens Guild

Lion's Guild

Im sure you get the idea :sweet:

I wouldn't use generic Guilds like the ones you described, they have too much Elder Scrolls/RPG connotations for me, plus you're losing the link with Lego there. In my opinion it'd be better to stick to official Lego Castle factions, let's say those starting from -what BL calls- 'Fantasy Era'. Even then, there'd still be a lot of different factions.

Thats cool I was more spitballing ideas than anything else. so with the fantasty era sets we have

Crown Guild, Dwarven (or miners) Guild and such

Amongst others. I was thinking factions starting from the "Fantasy Era", so up untill now  . Crown Knights, Lion Knights, Dragon Knights, Dwarves, Orcs and trolls, Undead and Elves. That'd be about it. If we started including the older ones, things might get too crowded  .

But the old lion and dragon knights could integrate with the new versions and no forestmen?! Blasphemy!

I'm confused, Are we going to make an entire Medieval world? Then take pictures around it, and from the top and then mesh it all together?

I'd like to add every nation, faction, etc., but I don't know how possible that is.

ahahaha Here! here! :)

wolf, bull and new (series 7) rhino ones :)

I would divide all into "light" and "dark" fraction (or good and evil) and be done with it :) history (and I say "history" but mean "castle:)) should have more contests, challenges etc

Also, on the other note: you could put a big map, and everybody could put their mocs somewhere on it (it should be a BIG map :) Only moderators could update it, but all mocs that are posted here could find its place in it. Icons of mocs could be links to the threads with presentations (like historical index)

I was just saying some ideas  . If the plan is to make these guilds/factions 'joinable' for members, you wouldn't want to have too much of these guilds or else the membership of them will be spread out too thinly. If you make 20 or so different guilds/factions but only a few people are interested in the project, you're bound to have some of these guilds empty, others with only a handful members and more others would be filled to the brim. I'm just saying that it's more fun if every faction got a decent amount of members and that's a feat easier to accomplish with a smaller amount of factions, thus my point of only using the "new" factions: Fantasy Era and Kingdoms.

I quite like the idea of a team build/competition where you have a team captain and 4 others, could be be interesting. On another note, I've just sorted out another 10 ways of building houses with unused techniques, should I just include them in my guide, or would they be better in another thread. I could do a a picture instruction of how to build a something like my forge if anyones interested.

I agree that we can't have too many factions, because then it would get clustered and confused, but why not have factions that can encompass many actual teams

for example

Royal Faction (Lion Knights, Crusaders, Crown Knights, ect.)

Dragon Faction (Dragon Knights, Black Knighst, Dragon Masters, ect)

Outlaw Faction (Wolfpack, Forestmen, Bull Knights, ect.)

Evil Faction (Trolls, Fright Knights, Skelentons, ect.)

This is just a rough idea and the actual names and where groups go could be easily changed; but I think it could work every one could include their fav group in it with out everyone splitting up.

and it also works very similar to how alot of us collect lego, sure I have modern Lion Knights, but I have used them in Moc's with some old Crusaders, so why not put them together?

As long as the factions link together in some reasonable sense I can't see the biggest problem, still we might have people demanding that some faction be moved (bull knights to evil for example) which could make things very complicated.

For me though, if we don't have some of the older sets (Black Falcon, Forestmen), it dosen't feel like LEGO.

Just an idea :classic:

Forgive a newbie question.. These Guilds, do each member choose which guild to join? Then this team (guild) build up mocs. These mocs can be a castle, a forge, a battle and must include your faction?

How do we build up a micro map? It´s pretty far from the members to join together and build it...

I really like the ideas that have been brought up here. An own page for mocs would def help to sort out these from other threads.

Derfel, my suggestion is to start a new guide to your new house techniques.

Just one thing, who the HECK puts Forestmen and Wolfpack together?! The team build idea sounds good, maybe like the Mocathlon and we choose a faction as the team??

Someone who uses his imagination and is not bound by strict conventions  . It's Lego, you can align factions how you want them to align, use your fantasy. Sure, you can follow the "official" storyline OR you can make one up for yourself. It's all up to yourself and how you see your Lego factions :classic: .

Well I see them all as outlaws, plus I always imaged that Dark Forest where a basic algermantion of both wolfpack and forestmen (done rather poorly).

Like I said its just an idea to tie in all the sets (that way we get forestmen :cry_happy: )

So, are the tags that have been handed out already a determinative for which faction you'll build when an eventual faction/guild based community build comes?

Maybe they're handed out randomly to top contributors.

I would pick a faction based on the older sets and looking more at reviews and articles (as its my strength), I like Falcon's but my tag was for doing the articles I don't think it has anything to do with the guilds we will hopefully get.

Some good ideas being thrown around about things we can do...

But I think people are thinking a bit too much 'end game' - and not the actual journey.

The end result is likely to have a massive collection of mocs and everyone parked into a 'guild' or something that they enjoy building and expanding upon (at least that seems to be the current thought)

but we forget the best part: GETTING THERE.

Who says we have to all break off into each separate guild right from the get go?

I'd rather see a year long (longer?) where the entire group effort is focused on designing and build up each guild - and then when we're done have people continue on with building in that particular 'guild' that they enjoy

I would love to see something like every 2-3 months we have a one or two 'guilds' that everyone builds towards - working together as a community to try to define and develop a new EB archetype style for each group. Then move on to another guild - that way every LEGO theme will be hit, and everyone will get a chance to help build/discuss/input on each theme.

I have already started a map. Regardless of the poll outcome, I will try me hand at it. Perhaps it could be the base product for an eventual micromap.

As of right now, I am planning on a more colorful version with loosely based factional areas from the newer series. This will allow everyone to participate with either new sets or finding places for an older series to find a home. I can easily see the old dragon knights being the ancestral home or ruins of the current dragons and so forth. I even have ideas for new unpeopled /hidden realms that would allow for idea expansions or possible contests.

I have tried my hand at maps before and I think I could get something nice together in the end. Used or not, it will be good practice for a pet project I have going. I drop a note or prelim. on my progress next week.

I had an idea. Lets get a map of the world, Then add the factions on. We will have to remove some borders obviously.

The size of their lands could be based on popularity, or the number of sets. Furthermore, I feel it would be an effective way of adding on later factions, as their will always be space. You could also change colours. For example the landscape of the bulls would be fiery lakes and harsh terrain. You could make the map to cater for each different Terrain.

See below

Yup, the current recievers of tags were well overdue for some lovin from me for past efforts, the rest will recieve tags on the basis of continuing work. Its the carrot that makes building/reviewing/map making more enjoyable.

Exactly, I think the idea of focusing on one or two guilds primarily to define their habitat is the way to go, don't let this stop you from building in the factions you like either though. With this in mind I think we should kick off a couple of factions soon with people interested to have a discussion amongst themselves to determine the best way to go about defining the lifestyle of said faction.

Thats cool

You want us to work on making this place more exciting for the LEGO fan

Have you thought of a place for Lego animation as some of the stuff they do is brilliant

This guy especially

does some amazing stuff.

I promised 3 or 4 MOC's. I have delivered in two days, 3.

I know one is WIP though. I plan to do an overview/review of KK1,KK2 and the Fantasy Era Minifigures. A bit like SirSven's. But with Minifigures and Listing the Pro's and Cons.

Hello everyone!

We have a great topic here! I've read it all and I think that the "tags" are a excellent ideia to keep us building!

I loved it!

About the map, I believe that a microscale version is more versatile option, especially when you have to transport it, as said before. So my vote was for that version.

I also like the ideia of an index for all the factions, with detailed information. I know we have websites like brickset, but is useful for the people who only use this forum.

Well, I'll try to organize my time and create more MOCs this month. I hope to show you all some good stuff.

Thanks for reading and sorry for any english mistakes

Best regards for you all,

Pedro

To pick up where others have left off in terms of the faction split I would say the following 4 major guilds should be made, each with its own unique tag, style of building and faction associations:(These are just rough ideas, mind you)

1) Alliance of the Kingdoms of Men

Robertsoncoa2.jpg

A Guild that encompasses all human factions in the Lego Universe that are mighty enough to own a castle. This faction will be your classic major kingdom with gleaming castle, uniformed Knights and the most historic middle ages vibe to it.

Lifestyle: Peasants work the fields, the Lords rule from high in their mighty fortresses, and knights in shining armor fight for honor and glory. This is the guild for those who always dreamed of owning a castle, being a defender of the downtrodden, amassing large colorful armies, and displaying the colors of the Kingdom high and proud.

Build Stylee: This Guild will have its roots in the classic Lego castle look; not a simple reproduction but an embellished and interesting mix of castles, towers, townships and houses. Here is some art to reflect the general idea of the style:

Factions include: Lion Knights, Dragon Knights, Black Knights, Crusaders, Crown Knights, and Falcons

2 The Rogues' Guild:

287.png

A Guild for the riffraff; mercenaries and merry men, this group is for those who prefer the lifestyle of adventure, brawls, exploration, banditry and treasure seeking.

Lifestyle: The groups in this guild are neither inherently good, nor inherently evil. They mostly make a living off the land and off of other people. Their habitat is stretches from the slums of big cities, to the forests and river hideouts, and mountain passes in the Kingdom. Whether they be bandit, pirate, forest man, merc, smuggler or traveling adventurer, the rogues can call this guild a home.

Build Style: This Guild will be rooted in nature and the art of incorporating shelters and houses into the natural environment. The slums of big cities can also be a wonderful addition to this Guild's possible environments. Art:

Factions Include: Forest Men, Wolf Pack, Dragon Knights, Bulls Knights, any personally made adventurer(Coat of arms is not necessary)

3) The Arcane Kingdoms:

celticknot_med.jpg

This is the Guild for those of us who like the aspect of fantasy factions. Here the elves and dwarves make their home. If you are fascinated by folklore, enchantments and exotic fantasy builds this is the place for you!

Lifestyle: Perhaps the most diverse group here, Elves and Dwarves occupy a unique niche of locations such as lush forests, underground mines and cities, beautiful treetop houses, ancient towers and fantastic fortresses. The dwarven and elf mentality, such as is well described in Tolkien and other fiction writings, is what will guide this Guild.

Build Style: There is a lot of work out there to highlight both dwarven and elven architecture/ culture:

ElrondRivendell.jpg

elf_huntersguild_l.gif

Factions: Dwarves, Elves (Series 3) and other archaic/ mystic races that people may wish to introduce that have origins rooted in fantasy

4) The Forces of Darkness:

Orc_shield_by_leocalca.jpg

This is the Guild for those of us who wish to get lost in dark fantasy: Orcs, Goblins, undead and corrupted men as well as dark creatures are all welcome here.

Lifestyle: The factions within this guild will be brutal, monstrous and will pillage and burn the Kingdoms of Men. The typical hierarchy is that of chieftains and shamans who rule over hordes and hordes of expandable brutes. This Guild takes into account a whole variety of exotic fantasy locales, and offers a chance for you to rule over your very own horde of minions, be you a dark wizard, orc warlord or evil spirit from beyond.

Build Style: This Guild will offer locations from savage villages, to gutted (overtaken) human castles, to caves and dark Gothic fortresses. Pictures:

Orc_Buildings.jpg

Castle.jpg

goblinfortress3.jpg

Factions: Trolls, Undead, Other evil creatures, and self-designed faction of corrupted baddies.

Well, there you go; my proposal; nothing is set in stone, but this is the rough idea. If it gathers more traction, I will desing some more Lego-appropriate symbols, buildings etc, to serve as examples of possible architecture/pis/factions. I think this distribution can encompass everyone's favorite faction and give the opportunity of builders to expand into areas not previously explored in MOC'ing.

Let me Know what you think!

Note: (All pictures from Google, as this is only temporary and can showcase the idea better than I can described it)
