Wolf04 Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Has anyone noticed that City has it's own section at S@H. It's divided into Construction, Police, Fire and Town Essentials. Hopefully next year we will get a "Civillian Essentials" with normal buildings and houses. :-D Quote
xwingyoda Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Since TLC is dropping licences, it really makes sense to expend the city themes by adding restorants, shops, vehicles and boats (I really hope, like a tug boat, fishing, a nice sailer would be nice...)... I guess a lot of novelties are lurking for the year 2006. Quote
Wolf04 Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 Since all these changes are made to forum topics, I think it would be great if the LEGO Trains part would be re-named to LEGO City & Trains. City seems to be coming back and since Trains are part of a city, these two should go together. Quote

City seems to be coming back and since Trains are part of a city, these two should go together. you've got a point, however, i don't feel that TLC has done enough to integrate both into one theme... but it would be a very good idea to do so. for instance, TLC could create a set with a warehouse and train rails attached to it, and on the other side of the warehouse, there could be a road and a truck waiting for the goods. you'd basically have a city side and a train side in one set. Quote
xwingyoda Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 Its going to be interesting to see how TLC will handle the "lost" of movie licences. At this time maybe trains and city will be integrated or they will represent two themes entirely with a lot more sets they have (especially trains). Quote
snefroe Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 i think TLC should spend a lot more time and effort to the city theme. i saw the entire cataloque of playmobil today... man what these guys are producing, just for their city theme is amazing: zoo, shops, cars, houses, gardens, supermarket,... why doesn't TLC do the same? she surely has all the parts for it. with the star wars licence being gone, she's going to need another space theme... harry potter will not be around forever, either. i'm hoping for a historic theme as well, like romans,... Mr. Lego-builder Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 :oD I've noticed that this topic havent been replied to since 29th of March! (And some of the replies are off topic! >:( ) Anyways, heres good news, take a look at this *satis* : Dump Truck Picture On Brickshelf What do you guys think? Too many *BIG* pieces for me >-| (notice the correctly predicted one gigantic piece for the back bucket. (p.s. sorry if this was posted before) Quote
xwingyoda Posted April 29, 2005 Posted April 29, 2005 Let me welcome you to our friendly boards mr. lego_bildur ;) I'm sure you'll have a great time with us, enjoy our nice little community ;) Thanks for sharing those pics. This thing is really, really huge. I really don't see the point of that set: the truck is way too big to fit in a city and there are too many gigantic pieces you can hardly use anywhere else. Quote

This thing is really, really huge. I really don't see the point of that set: the truck is way too big to fit in a city and there are too many gigantic pieces you can hardly use anywhere else. it's a mining truck, you see those in diamond mines, for instance... not in a city... two remarks: overall, this looks great, but i was hoping for more pieces, for the "one-piece whatever you call it in english" behind the driver the tyres are not good. they look as if Ferrari produced them. TLC should have gone for the large or extra large tyres of the "classic" technic sets. those really give the illusion of being able to carry heavy loads... I also feel that the current wheels are a bit too small for this truck. in reality, this truck would probably have collapsed in the middle. you need larger wheel, closer to each other... Quote
The Middleman Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 I don't buy the 'it's-not-good-because-it-doesn't-fit' argument. It's meant to be in a mine. If you have a problem with that, don't buy it! :P Quote
Wolf04 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 it was less than 200 pieces? Wow, I thought LEGO was on a roll with the new City sets but this truck just ruins it. I agree, the axles are set apart too far and there is too much space left in the middle area. I also hate that the whole dump thing is only one piece. Would it be so hard to make it of individual pieces?? That really lowers the alternate construction level. Also, I hate the front fenders. They're also made of one piece! WTF??? This is probably worth $20 but I bet you LEGO will make it $30 USD just because of those stupid large pieces. Quote

This is probably worth $20 but I bet you LEGO will make it $30 USD just because of those stupid large pieces. in fact, by making this dump thing a one piece, TLC probably safed the customer a lot of money. the price of Lego sets depends on production costs, but also on total weight (don't ask me how or why (probably distribution or so...), my retailer just told me), the heavier a set, the more expensive. I'm quite certain this one piece thing is a lot cheaper in production and weighs less than all the weight of all the bricks you would need... Quote
Wolf04 Posted May 1, 2005 Posted May 1, 2005 Hey if it's cheaper...then why not make the whole set out of one piece? Wouldn't that be fun? Quote
jayb_fpmg Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Just picked up the 7344 Dump Truck at ToysRUs today. :-D They had the large crane and construction sets there also. A couple new designer sets too...the one with the lion and the one with the red cars. Quote

jayb_fpmg Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 I'm located in Madison, Wisconsin USA. I of course was surprised it was there as the set isn't on shop@home or Lego Brand stores yet. The set is actually slightly smaller than I expected and it was a quick build. The large plastic bucket is kinda flimsy, but serves the purpose well. There are stickers for the caution stuff that are applied to that large piece. The smooth plate on the front though has the design printed on it. I don't know if it's worth the $29.99, but I had a $25 gift card to use...so that made it worth while. If it was $19, I'd probably end up with a fleet of them though... It'll be interesting to see when this set makes it to catalogue though... Quote
The Middleman Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 So it's $30? Most of us here thought it was $20. Disappointing. Thanks for telling us, though! Any chance of pictures? Quote

billybob Posted May 7, 2005 Posted May 7, 2005 i saw this set at toys r us but i bought the crane it's awesome :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) Quote
The Middleman Posted May 8, 2005 Posted May 8, 2005 If it's popping up, I might have to make a few trips soon... AND THE HUNT BEGINS! (again - at least this time there isn't a set release date!) Quote
xwingyoda Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Here is a pic found on brickshelf !!! check it here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery....y.cgi?i=1237912 Enjoy Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted May 26, 2005 Governor Posted May 26, 2005 I saw this in the 2005 LEGO catalog... I saw the dump tray and noticed it was one piece. Is this the biggest <insert that tiresome argument> piece to date in the existence of LEGO? Needless to say I was shocked and offended... Really... Couldn't LEGO have been much cleverer and found a way to construct the same thing out of smaller pieces without resorting to use one big one... Where's the thumbs down smiley...? I think I better request one right away... Quote
Mr. Lego-builder Posted May 26, 2005 Posted May 26, 2005 Absolutely, Phes. The back dump truck piece THE MOST <insert that tiresome argument> piece, followed by the crane support piece, but at least this piece has a use. Quote
