kyphur Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 What can I see in the background, is that a rather long santa fe lined up? Yep, parked on the Wye is my Santa Fe Super Chief complete will all five official Cars a B Unit and a Pleasure Dome (both based on James Mathis' great designed but MODed to my taste). Quote
splatman Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Sadly the only colours I've seen them in at the stores is trans orange and lime green... only good for psychadelic ballast! And throw in some of whatever transparent colors that are available, for a crazy out-of-this-world psychedelic railroad! Just make shure there's none of those little slopes in there, or it'll just look cheesy! Unless it will only serve dairy farms. :D Yeah, I said this just for the lulz! Quote
skobabe8 Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 This layout is insane. Color me jealous. I have a decent sized setup (not nearly as big obviously) in my basement, too. I live in Chicago and my wife teaches Early Childhood Autism at a local school. I am trying to convince her to take the kids on a field trip to your house. Quote
SDH Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 I am so thoroughly jealous. Your layout looks awesome, have fun filling it out. Quote
kyphur Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 (edited) Minor update: Unfortunately everything is still in a storage unit but I am working on a few projects for the layout: First was the TTX Intermodal Car Set scaled for Maersk Containers... Curve Test - In Real Bricks by Kyphur_Trains, on Flickr I'm really happy with this design but might still tweak the heavy duty freight bogey design a bit. Then there's the updated Maersk Container Design... Untitled by Kyphur_Trains, on Flickr I found the basic ideas here in Train Tech and tweaked it a bit to my liking. The 2x2 plates with one centered stud allows the containers to clutch when stacked. I'm in the process of converting my Maersk Containers to this design. Finally I have acquired set 181-1 for my Train Museum... Untitled by Kyphur_Trains, on Flickr It's missing a few parts but they're all ordered. I just need to decide what to do about the stickers. They're applied and in rough shape. I'm thinking of coating them with polyurethane spray to preserve them in their current condition on the bricks so this can be an original restoration with a few rough spots. WesternOutlaw Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Finally I have acquired set 181-1 for my Train Museum... Now that's one of the best parts of your collection Kyphur. I really enjoy seeing old set restoration projects. Thanks for sharing and it's neat that you continue to update this topic with your progress. I've enjoyed following. Quote
kyphur Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Now that's one of the best parts of your collection Kyphur. I really enjoy seeing old set restoration projects. Thanks for sharing and it's neat that you continue to update this topic with your progress. I've enjoyed following. This is my first ever Classic Train set and I love it. I'm hoping to add set 131-1 Passenger Coach to my little Classic Train. I wonder, what is your opinion about the stickers? Would you pull off the original ones and make nice reproductions or would you polyurethane the rough original stickers in place on the bricks? For the Train Museum I'm trying to decide between two options: 1) Run the restored original classic train on the Museum's closed private loop of blue track. 2) Use the restored original classic train as a static display and run a modern (PF Powered) reproduction of the classic train on the closed loop of blue track. Forum members' opinions on both of these issues is welcomed... Quote
The Player Nº1 Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Fantastic layout. Where do you have so much space? A garage? Quote
Locomotive Annie Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 It's been great to read through this thread and see how your layout is developing. My space for a layout occupies half of a fairly large bedroom and will be an open centred rectangle when it's all done, but compared to your amazing layout it will be a pipsqueak in size. It's very inspiring to see how other folk build their layouts so thank you very much for sharing. And I'd just like to say that it's great that you are helping to raise awareness about Autism. My own daughter has Asperger's Syndrome and as a child she was quite a handful. It took a long time before my daughter was finally diagnosed and finally I could understand what was going on with my child. My daughter is 29 now and is studying for her Computer Science degree. I love my unusual daughter very much and despite all the ups and downs with her growing up I wouldn't want to change a thing. Quote
Waaltje Posted November 25, 2012 Posted November 25, 2012 I can only look at this topic with envy! Your layout is amazing Quote
