Governor Mister Phes Posted August 4, 2008 Author Governor Posted August 4, 2008 EDIT: I just noticed that it is NOT Lego. If this topic could be closed, it would be a real help. A help to who exactly? Quote
Gen. Knowledge Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I was surfing ebay and I found this. It looks like LEGO and all, but is it for real or what? My knowledge of Pirates don't sway far from the official sets. I don't think that it's real Lego, but is it Megablocks or something? It says blok blok in the title...PS. If it is for real, then this (and the other cheap ones that say Blok Blok) might be good for you, Gen. Knowledge! EDIT: I just noticed that it is NOT Lego. If this topic could be closed, it would be a real help. Thanks Adam, I actually saw these on eBay and had to take a second look. Some of the sets look very similar to official Lego sets, like this one HERE I think I will resist and stick with real Lego pieces for building. Weapons...I may stray for the right weapon. Tony Quote
Gen. Knowledge Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I was responding to a post from Adam, about an eBay auction earlier. I went to a website that was linked to the auction in question, and saw THIS. Wow! I mean you can definitely tell these are fakes, but it makes me wonder how well they are made. Take a close look at some of the minifigs. Has anyone taken one for the team (toft) and bought any of these before? Where are Lego Bricks made these days? Tony Quote
SlyOwl Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I think that the general concensus is that clone brands are of inferior quality, but have some useful elements, such as chrome pistols and cutlasses, parrots and some torsos. They are improving in quality, however, and are cheaper than buying old Lego sets from eBay e.t.c. There are a few reviews on EB concerning clone brands - Lego vs Brick 6237 Pirates' Plunder Comparison Review Enlighten Brick Boats Review Enlighten Brick 0148 Forbidden Cove Quote
Tenorikuma Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 In that last photo, the hands of the minifigs are visibly falling out of their arm sockets. Quote
Stauder Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 This is a commonly known fact, as SlyOwl said. No need to make a fuss about it... Stauder. Quote
El Bucanero Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Hmm that's interesting, it seems they took the original TLC boxart of this set and put a Enlighten Brick logo on it. I wonder what the contents would look like. Quote
Shoc Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Hmm that's interesting, it seems they took the original TLC boxart of this set and put a Enlighten Brick logo on it.I wonder what the contents would look like. Slyowl has actually already pointed out the review of it: Lego vs Brick 6237 Pirates' Plunder Comparison Review The chrome sword and the parrot look good, but other than that... Lego rip-off. :skull: Quote
Stauder Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 That is interesting... Too bad TLC has better things to do than sue some company that will just take a nother name and start over... Staudie. Quote
Dreamweb Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) Nothing new... They've been discussed here many times before... Actually I own some of the smaller sets (bought them long ago though), I can look those bricks up and take some photos if you want... I love how the map is placed upside down on this image: Edited August 4, 2008 by Dreamweb Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Just more proof that we need a new pirate line from lego itself! Maps upside down....hands falling out the sockets.....we need to keel haul these guys Quote
Dovchenko Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 (edited) Just more proof that we need a new pirate line from lego itself! Maps upside down....hands falling out the sockets.....we need to keel haul these guys Keel haul stays on hold... until we get about 100 of those awesome silver cutlasses. Adam Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 A help to who exactly? Well, it would be pointless to reply, wouldn't it? But thanks for the help, everyone. Besides, I don't want people jumping at the though of cheap ships on ebay that aren't LEGO. Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Uhm it actually says the brand is Bandao, not lego and the auction has ended. So i think the question is answered, i'm closing this one up Quote
Captain_CreamFields Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 i bought about a hundred of those silver cutlasses off ebay for really cheap, i think the lot cost me maybe £5 they're really good and can add a lot to your minifigures, i also ordered the fake black seas barracuda for around £17 mainly for torso's and certain unique parts seen as i already own the original, i ordered a few skeletons and imperials for the helmets aswell i'll post pics when i get them. Dreamweb Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Yes, I agree the silver cutlasses look good, as do the silver swords from Castle. Also, the shakos look slightly different from their Lego counterparts - the plume thing is bigger and has a triangular shape - a nice variation for your troops. Quote

I was shocked at how similar this was to the Original. I didnt care if I didnt get the Original since if its Pirates, Im happy! Its actually really good. Im making my HMS Unicorn from it. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 4, 2008 Author Governor Posted August 4, 2008 Good work Captain! But we might as well merge this thread with another clone brand thread - no point having a small thread nowhere, it clogs up our forum! Quote
Captain_CreamFields Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 http://cgi.ebay.com/Pirate-ship-Skull-w-mi...86.c0.m14.l1318 thats a new one and quite good looking in my opinion comes with a lot of mini figs and rope rigging it's also bigger than any of the lego ships released off topic : can anybody tell me whats the difference between the original bsb and the legends versions piece count, were some pieces left out or added or did they just count torsos as 4 pieces or something Quote
Fluyt Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 http://cgi.ebay.com/Pirate-ship-Skull-w-mi...86.c0.m14.l1318 thats a new one and quite good looking in my opinion comes with a lot of mini figs and rope rigging it's also bigger than any of the lego ships releasedoff topic : can anybody tell me whats the difference between the original bsb and the legends versions piece count, were some pieces left out or added or did they just count torsos as 4 pieces or something That ship seems a bit odd, a longer version of the bsb with ses sails. It's a bit too low for its length and amount of sails imho. about the bsb: I think I've heard it had something to do with the including/excluding the spare parts in the piece count. Quote
Admiral Blockbeard Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I own this Ship as well. It is two "BSB" sets sold together with black string/rope and different sails that you need to cut out. The instructions are on a CD rom (you get enough left over parts to MOC another ship). The ship looks great when in front of you and i think you would find it hard to call it short, in my opinion it is a better size than most galleon ships we see on this site, however taller sails and masts would not hurt it. if you want more blurry pics look at my Meander, thats the ship only paper sails. Meander can be found here Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 off topic : can anybody tell me whats the difference between the original bsb and the legends versions piece count, were some pieces left out or added or did they just count torsos as 4 pieces or something As far as I know, the legends version's cannons are not shooting cannons! That could explain the piece count. Quote
Seth Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 A couple of months ago I was looking for a Lego pirate ship. Then I found this really cheap knock off. Now I won this set and I rekon it is very bad quality. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted August 16, 2008 Author Governor Posted August 16, 2008 Do you have pictures of the built set? Which brand is it anyway? You may also like to read the Knockoff pirates thread and the Clone/Immitation Pirate LEGO brands thread as they document this topic more thoroughly. Quote
Seth Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 I broke the set and made it into a Steampunk themed set. the brand is Brick Block Quote
