That base works really well indeed, reminds me of the asteroid that space slug is living in.

Indeed. Though I would definitely not want to display the set at that angle; as Kiel pointed out, it appears terribly fat from the side (just look at the height relative to the docking arms). It is to be expected since the interior is the main focus of the play, but it doesn't look good from the outside at all.

Hi Stoutfiles,

thanks for your advice. Actually i like your approach pretty much. Apparently you created a dedicated exhibition of your precioussss :classic:

How do you keep your sets dustfree? I'd like to preserve the shiny looks of new bricks and thus put the ones i built up into a glass cabinett. Due to space issues (aforementioned) the bigger ones like the MF would require to be placed in a steep angle. I only am afraid of deformation of bricks and the build...

I would much rather keep this in storage and only bring it out when visitors bring their kids (as far as I'm concerned this is fun to play with but unworthy of display), but if I had to I would probably have it more like this, though more head-on such that neither the fatness of the sides nor the oversized cockpit and mandibles are too conspicuous. I would also place it on a shelf well below eye level to optimize the topside detailing.

I’m guessing he dusts his sets regularly. There are quite a few threads on that here; we should really have something like a “LEGO Maintenance Index” for these kinds of things.

I mean, what you need colors such as red and yellow for anyway as on OT MOC'er?

You'd be surprised how often colors of the rainbow come in useful in Original Trilogy MOCs:

Red

Orange

Yellow

Green

Blue

*

*Now find examples for indigo and violet...

EDIT: Never mind.

When you get these sets, it's impossible not to compare.

Now all I need to do is open the advent calendar version.

Oh, right, I forgot about that one! That's a total of eight official versions of the Millennium Falcon we need to think about:

minifigure scale:

7190

4504

7965

10179 (UCS)

... and smaller:

midi-scale

mini

Advent Calendar mini

bag charm

Oh, and perhaps we should also include the one in the Star Wars Miniland at LEGOLAND California. KDM, would you be so kind as to acquire all eight released versions of the Millennium Falcon, take them to LLCA, build them next to the Miniland Falcon, and get a picture of all nine together so we can more readily compare and contrast them? Thanks so much.

Fair enough. Save for a few large sets (DS, DS2, Executor, future Cloud City) I don't have the room for the UCS Falcon nor is it even remotely practical to buy now. This is the next best option...hopefully a 'Flail' design comes out for it to at least shorten the cockpit jutting out and to integrate the mandibles more than they are.

Probably 4 times a year. That probably isn't enough, but oh well. If I wanted them to stay in mint condition I would have left them in their boxes. My sets will someday be old and brittle after years of air exposure, but I enjoy looking at my collection everyday so it's worth it to me. I didnt buy them to make money.

If you truly hate dust, add an air filtration system to your glass cabinet.

I knew YOU was going to comment on me.

Yeah, you're right about the colors, but when MOC'ing I almost exclusively use bley and dark bley, and add only some touches of color.

Huge bump, sorry. But can I please ask for a bag count check? I just bought this set and it has 'opens for examination' stickers on it. It might have been a customer return. All bags are sealed but I want to make sure I have them all.

The review states 3x bag 3, and 2x bag 6, but I only have 2x bag 3, and 1x bag 6. Can someone confirm how many bags there should be?

Hi, I've just checked mine (purchased new) and it has:

3 x bag 1

3 x bag 2

2 x bag 3

3 x bag 4

2 x bag 5

1 x bag 6

1 x un-numbered (plus 2 small ones with perforations, although I think these were within the larger ones!)

I've just checked the weight of my Falcon (inc minifigures, but without the flick-fire missiles!!) and it's 1507g, so if the total bag weight is around this you should be ok. Cheers, Robin :classic:

I just ordered 7965 new. Great review. One question, once completed, can the MF be stored in its original box? I have limited space and am unable to display every Lego set at once so some have to go on a "rotation". I am always looking for good ways to store sets when not in use.

If you take off the landing gear, flick fires and dish it just fits in.

Argh, I still need to get this! Blasted limited resources...

Hi

is nobody on eBay USA selling the ship new (sealed bags) but without the figs? The figs are quiet normal and not exclusive. I bought mine at eBay Germany for 70€ (149€ is MRSP). Here are sellers that are specialized in sellingnfigs and sets individually but new.

There might very well be; I'm not interested in buying the ship that way, so I haven't looked - I want the complete set, minifigures included, even if they're all versions of characters I already have (and anyway, where else am I going to get Luke in lightsaber / remote training mode with the blast shield printed down on his face?).

The set is still readily available new, here; I'll get it that way. :classic: I just have a lot to catch up on, that's all. :sceptic:
