48 x 48 is indeed the Maximum limit. However you can have 64 x 32, if you prefer the rectangle shape moc. In fact, 64 x 32 could work well as you could have 1 32 x 32 plate used for the close up scene, and another 32 x 32 plate behind it with the micro scale build on.

Just a suggestion.

so by this you mean that the 48x48 restriction is simply 2,304 studs in any dimension?

So you could have a 32x32, two 32x16 and a 16x16 set up where ever?

I think if they are all connected then if DC speaks the truth, yeah!

well, (as usual), I do not think that the judges will be that strict - if your moc could use few more studs for that micro background and it really fits well and you do not push it (with 90 more studs:), I think that it will be ok ;)

In Historica creativity and fun was always more important then rules, and that is one of the things I like ;)

Exactly don't over read the rules, just don't blow the size restriction out of the water with a 25 baseplate build. We want all people to be able to have a go at Challenge 4 rather than be scared off by the larger collections out there. We as Guild leaders are still looking to make many different style challenges to push you all to become better builders. Embrace the fun and get building!

So are you saying that I can go with 64x64 build because that would give ideal space to create the specified scene without it looking crammed together?

So no answer mean's yes

64 x 64 is 4,096 stud area. That is way more than the 2,304 stud area in the rules.

I do NOT think that is what is being said at all. I think what is being said is if you build a scene on a 48 x 48 baseplate with "reaosnable" overhang (like a 2 plate think border, or a tree that hangs over the edge a bit) you are good to go.

For this challenge specifically, if you need 5 or 6 more studs to make the micro landscape work with the scene, then they will be flexible on that point. Enlarging ALL of the scene on every side to fit your vision however isn't what they have in mind.

DC is suggesting that the build does not need to be square, but he and ISC are not saying the general restriction can be ignored.

It's hard to know if you are serious or not some times... you are a cagey one Mr. Beard.

So, I wanted to join in on this, but I don't know which guild to join.

Also, does anything else feel wrong or weird about the Guilds of Historica? Or is it just me?

Anyways, my main question is more important. Which guild should I join?

As to which guild to join, I went with the one that I had the most bricks for. I considered Kalphilan but didn't seem to have the tan bricks. I also thought of Mitgardia but all my white was old and yellowing (who wants yellow snow!) In the end I went with Avalonia because I was lucky enough to get quite a bit of foilage at a Pick a Brick wall a year or so ago plus I really admirred our leaders builds

As to something wrong or weird about GoH, the only thing wrong is the amount I have spent on Bricklink since November!

So what is it you feel weird about? As for the guilds, actually Southern Mitgardia, as well as Avalonia and Northern Mitgardia all more or less are situated in the temperate zone. So you can build similar stuff in all three guilds. The one that is really different from the others is Nocturnus.

Are you referring here to Avalonia and Greater and Lesser Kaliphlin? The only weird thing here is some Northmen's geographical understanding :tongue

Any new travellers are very welcome in the rich towns of Kaliphlin. But truly I agree, Nocturnus by its nature needs regular infusions of fresh meat

I love Avalonia and it fits my style, but if I had to switch guilds, I think I might go to Nocturnus. The army and characters and build stlyes are just so much fun! That's my pitch for the darklands!

Agreed. I initally considered joining Nocturnus for the evil fun factor and amazing latitude in building styles, but at the time Kaliphlin had one fewer member, so i headed south. But you know, wherever you end up, you can usually find some way to make the terrain fit in with what YOU want to build, rather than being dictated by it.

I just did the math, and a 32X64 base is 256 studs smaller than a 48x48 baseplate. If you want a rectangle you can do a 32x72 and still be in compliance for Challenge 4.

Cagey?! Whatever. I quit.

Mean? I was just saying it is hard to know when you are serious which includes the "I quit comment"!!

Pretty cagey, huh? No seriously, my question was serious. I wanted to know how loose the rule was.

Posted

I think the rule is your base has to be within the area of a 48 x 48 base with reasonable overhang. For the micro landscape, the leaders are allowing a few extra studs beyond that but they cautioned if you do build your micro landscape outside the 48 x48 space it shouldn't constitute it's own MOC.

Guild leaders- please clarify if I am off base here.

We from the underground think that this should be settled on a battlefield ;)

Too bad the Drow can't make it to a battlefield without the sun frying them to a crisp.

What should be settled? and what battlefield do the puny drow wish to "Fight" with the rest of the united Historica? an underground one I suppose...

Is there a way you cam change who your character is?

Many ways. You can just write about someone else for a while, become a monk, go into hiding under an assumed name, kill off your first character, et c. It's a story.
