Hyler Talliwell Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Thanks rogueang! Thanks too to Legonardo Davidy for his brilliant pictorial index of the watchtowers! What is this "pictoral index" you speak of?

Flipz Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I'd love to join, but I've no room to build, and most of my brick is still in boxes... I shall watch with great interest, and steal borrow your detailing techniques when I have better access to my collection! I'd also like to ask a few questions...first and foremost, how did this get started? Did you guys just decide "Hey, here's this epic idea for a massive-scale community build, let's make it happen," or was it more involved than that?
Angeli Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Please, make a normal third round challenge (now on 64x64, I presume:), not "build a siege machine" or "build micro (anything:)" or "build a guild farm" :)))) Give us something to put our imagination to test, leaders! (And Drow should be one of the leaders, I say ...and, later, Drow should be the ONLY leader, but more about that later:)

(And Drow should be one of the leaders, I say ...and, later, Drow should be the ONLY leader, but more about that later:) I am thinking perhaps a 16x16 depiction of drow being slaughtered like the poor soldiers they are! ;P Or maybe build a Drow Fortress being turned into a nursery for baby elves. ??? I am just teasing. :) But for real, I am very interested in seeing what the new challenge will be. We have done a military post, a civilian post, now perhaps an economic post?

Did you guys just decide "Hey, here's this epic idea for a massive-scale community build, let's make it happen," or was it more involved than that? You can always join without building! Only think you have to do is create a sigfig and a backstory - and then join the conversation. Even without building you can contribute to the Guild by helping out with story ideas, moc ideas, moc feedback etc etc. As for your second question... it's a bit more complicated... This all started as the "History Stimulus Package" To save you pages of reading - basically people were coming up with ideas on how to do something interesting in the historical forum. It started out as 'Lets do a community build' then 'Let's create MOCs and put it on the map.' Others suggested grouping into the LEGO factions. I think the real break through was when Siren's of Titans suggested to put everyone into Guilds - irrespective of their traditional LEGO lines. This went on for maybe a few weeks before Guild Leaders were picked - and a started crafting up the world and how to approach it from a building perspective as well as running it as a community effort. That might seem like a long time to plan it all out - it wasn't - we were sort of flying by our pants - and it sorta shows, but behind the scenes we are still working (we even have con calls now! ) and I think we have a really good plans for the next few months of where the world is going towards... So for future Guilds of <forum> - I think the lesson is plan things out first! Oh thanks! I would like to join Kaliphlin. :) Welcome aboard! Keep in mind that each guild has varied environments - yes south is primarily desert - but we do have grassy lands, mountains and seas etc - that way everyone can build anything - and not necessarily bound to just one style - though most people like the challenge of sticking with the realms stereotypical landscape. Come on, don't tease us, tell us already, I wanna build! Patience young padiwan! Challenge III shall be revealed soon. In the mean time, feel free to do some free building and score some points.

Whaddayouknow! Just reading on, minding my own business and I suddenly get slung miles deep into the Guilds's past. Nice to hear something about the way this all started. I think you guys (I don't know all who are involved, but I'm assuming at least the guild leaders) can really be proud of what you have going here. I am new to Lego forums and forums in general, but I am really impressed by the ideas, builds and atmosphere of this thread. It just works so well and then to read that you have so many ideas left... Kudos to all of you, and many thanks as well, from someone who is really enjoying all of this. Patience young padiwan! Challenge III shall be revealed soon. In the mean time, feel free to do some free building and score some points. Isn't it "padawan"? I have been wondering about the points scoring and guild boards and gold scored for the guilds, etc. I've seen it mentioned a couple of times, but I haven't found a topic or anything that shows the scores, gold or rankings. Where do I find more info on this? Am I right to assume that the competitions all lead to a total of points for each guild (like the houses in Harry Potter, for example)? What will the gold be for? Does building for your guild have any merits for individual builders? Does free building work into these scoring boards as well? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm just really into this and want to know what you all worked out. So far, I've found everything I've seen so enjoyable that I want to find out everything there is to these things. And yes, my enthusiasm sometimes gets the better of me. My apologies.

The points can be found somewhere between the thousands topics of MOC's I think :D DC has it unpinned accidentally a few days ago, so it went right between the topic with the post just posted before and the one with the post posted after. I guess you will have to go around 40 or more Topic's back :p

This is a lot newer than I thought--I was under the impression that Historica had been around for ages. I feel slightly less intimidated about joining now. 3.) I have a comment about that--it also involves why I was asking in the first place--but it's off-topic enough that I'd rather PM you about it.
Mike S Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Is there any plan to have this thread pinned? http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=63865 Thanks DaMaximus for compiling that info.

There should not be many things pinned. We already have four topics for four guilds, one introduction thread, one for challenges and one index. That is seven already, and even that is to much. But, all seven are needed And I was looking at this topic, and it is more then slightly confusing (to me). There should be only one "index" topic, and it should have thumbs (like MOC index How it will be organized is something we could talk about, but those are finesse.

I have to update that :p Nocturnus is still not completely done and there are a lot of new MOC's now, so I'll do it when I have a lot of time But that will be soon though. Also, I am thinking to restyle it a bit, but I am not sure yet how
SkaForHire Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I have to update that :p Nocturnus is still not completely done and there are a lot of new MOC's now, so I'll do it when I have a lot of time But that will be soon though. Also, I am thinking to restyle it a bit, but I am not sure yet how I definitely think the city guide is something worth keeping updated or maybe linked to the main post - if not pinned. Although we have a MOC index, it does not say where the MOCS are, nor does it present all the current maps. I think this geographical thread is a good one. I would like to see the world map put on there too though.
I Scream Clone Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 So basically, free builds give points one way or another? Yes, we are working to catch up on all the free build scoring. rogueang has helped immensely by indexing all the MOCs. First things first, we are judging the Embassy comp as we speak, planning challenges 3 and 4 with MOC storyline, and still organising prizes (sorry for the delay, but exclusives take time to manufacture )
