Rogue Angel Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Do I need to sign up here to join Guilds of Historica ? Well then, Disco86 is signing up ! Is the 1st post actual and the Guild of Avalonia is closed ? Already tried to sign in there... don't want to change my guild :) Avalonia is not currently closed, even though it is recommended that you consider other guilds first. You don't need to switch if you're set on Avalonia.
mrcp6d Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I think extending your build off the plate so there is a non-linear edge serves the same purpose as a border. It creates the illusion that the build keeps going, and you just seeing a sample of it. I agree with this completely, though I my opinion it only works really well with smaller MOCs. I like the 'frames' on larger builds, especially since they're usually built on a baseplate anyway.
soccerkid6 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Thanks for all the replies concerning bases guys. It seems baseplates are the most popular, makes sense as they are baseplates
Brickington Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 ...It seems baseplates are the most popular, makes sense as they are baseplates That's such a cheesy joke!
Legonardo Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I don't use baseplates,my first ch6 build is 64x48 roughly (not to worry it fits in the stud limit)( and it has no baseplates. but do what you want, it looks good with you!
Captain Settle Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Since there's three builds in challenge 6, do we need to post them all at once in one topic, or can we spread it out and build one model and put it online and then, say a week later, post the next build and so on.
MikeyB Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Since there's three builds in challenge 6, do we need to post them all at once in one topic, or can we spread it out and build one model and put it online and then, say a week later, post the next build and so on. I think that questioned was answered in the Challenge VI question thread. Basically It is one thread for your entry. The way I am doing mine is building each one individually, then taken the photos but I don't plan on posting the photos until I have all three finished.
Gideon Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Hello! I have been lurking in the GoH forum way too long without participating myself, due to becoming awestruck by the high quality MOCs produced here and being short on time to try to match what is being built here... But inspired by seeing how building skills have gotten a boost by being part of GoH I thought I should change that now and start participating instead if it is ok to join even though I probably woun't be able to make a serious attempt at the last challenge? I have a sigfig with a backstory (including some small illustrative MOCs built, but not yet photographed) somewhat worked out. But so far I havn't decided yet which guild to join, would it be ok to just post it here or in a separate thread and listen to what you guys have to say?
kabel Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Seems like you like Mitgardia, so go North young man!
Gideon Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Well, the problem I have is that my collection and building experience scream Avalonia, my sigfig seems to clearly develop into a pronounced Kaliphlin character the more I work with the backstory while all the time I've thought about how to maybe make him end up in Mitgardia :S Hard to explain, I think I should just try to get some publishable pics of my small backstory MOCs and collect it in a post soon.
kabel Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 southern Mitgardia actually is a lot like Avalonia. Actually of all the Mocs I've made for Mitgardia, not even half of them contain snow!
Brickington Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 North-East Avalonia is half Avalonian and half Mitgardian. Avalonia the best!
SkaForHire Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Most peoples collections are best suited for one of the two "green" factions. I think that is why the majority flock to those two banners. I would say it all depends on what you have in your collection. If you have a lot of rock color or tan, or rock color and swamp /black, the other two guilds would be happy to have you too. On another note, Northwestern Kaliphlin looks like southern Avalonia with plains and some trees. That is where I am located, although I mostly MOC desert.
Gideon Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Thank you for your quick answers! It did not make me any more sure that I got 3 different options though :P I've tried lately to gather a bit of tan (picked up some PoP when that was discontinued) so some desert is within my capacity but the bulk of my collection is as a castle nerd of course light grey/bley and to a lesser extent dark grey/bley. But in terms of expanding my horizons, Kaliphlin is definetiley appealing :)
Kayne Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 I'm Kaliphlin and use a both bleys for my buildings, just tan-nish for my environments. We'd love to have you, but of course as this is for fun, go where you are comfortable
Kai NRG Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Thank you for your quick answers! But in terms of expanding my horizons, Kaliphlin is definetiley appealing :) Yes, come join Kaliphlin! We've got the biggest amount of land, tons of diversity - mountains in the east, deserts and rivers and oases (I had no idea that was the plural of oasis!) all over, swamp down in the bottoms, plenty of islands, the Witherwoods up by Eastgate... in fact just check out the map of Historica! But no pressure, of course...
Gideon Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 (edited) Now I have finally finished some pictures of my sigfig and his backstory :) Sir Gideon the half-elf signing up! He was born in Avalonia to a high-born lady of Mitgardian ancestry and an unknown elvish father, but has fled his past as a "filthy half-breed bastard" for most of his life including many years in Kaliphlin. So the question is which guild, if any, he will pledge his allegiance to...? The backstory of Sir Gideon and some illustrative MOCs can be found in this thread: http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=79999 Edited February 25, 2013 by Gideon
I Scream Clone Posted March 1, 2013 Author Posted March 1, 2013 The deadline for Challenge 6 has been extended to April 30, show us your best guys!
Gideon Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 The deadline for Challenge 6 has been extended to April 30, show us your best guys! Wow, that's great news for us latecomers! However it also means that I don't have an excuse for only posting a few "one night builds"
nivremis Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Awesome news, particularly since my bricks are still en route to me. Question though, is anyone in nocturnous still....alive?
Kai NRG Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Awesome news, particularly since my bricks are still en route to me. Question though, is anyone in nocturnous still....alive? Yes... sort of... and if they aren't, that would mean it's your chance to shine! Here's a list of some of nocty's members who have been at least a little active during the last two months or so (scroll down, Mitgardia is first).
robuko Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 The deadline for Challenge 6 has been extended to April 30, show us your best guys! 3 months wasn't enough? No, it wasn't! I figure I lost a month building time to SciFi month, so this is awesome news. Thankyou very much! :classic:
PenPlays Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Yes! An extra month! I needed that so much. Thank you Guild Leaders.
