That's awesome Z... does that mean I've been frontpaged? :look::sweet::laugh: I don't start at the frontpage... but I do get notifications for it. Ironically this time I was in such a hurry I didn't notice though!

I almost never visit the frontpage, great job getting us who have joined the forum exclusively for GoH to crawl out of our sub-sub-subforum and see some more of Eurobricks

And good job putting our builds on the frontpage!

Same here, I tipically just open right into GoH too

And thanks, ZC :sweet:

Okay, since I know many of you have put in a lot of time in GoH, (and since Kabel made me feel like I was ignoring all of you :sceptic: ) I would like to share part of what I suggested to the other leaders for the next chapter and you can offer some feedback.

Goals of this next mini-challenge/idea (based on some of the thoughts you supplied in this thread earlier)

  1. Get people into Nocturnus
  2. Remove GOLD as the motivating factor
  3. Offer multiple options so people with limited collections (or time) can still participate
  4. Introduce some team work and some competitive balance to a challenge
  5. Apply some of the (this needed to be redacted as it is a secret) framework to give it a go.
  6. Allow new people a good spot to get into the guilds.
  7. Introduce some more direct (and some intraguild) competition

Following up on what many of you said earlier in this thread, the general idea would be the next challenge/story arc would specifically be set in Nocturnus. The idea would be two competing factions (both internal Nocturnus) would battle for control of the land. Those who are currently in Nocturnus could immediately choose their side. Any new member could elect to be in Nocturnus and would also get to choose their side immediately. Everyone else who wants to participate in the challenge would be randomly assigned a side in an attempt to "balance" the two sides so the competition would be... well... competitve. From here you can choose to use your own established GoH character or you can create a new one specifically for this mini-challenge.

In an effort to respond to the ideas that the challenges became too big or that people simply wanted to build something cool with those who don't like restrictions, the challenge would consist of 3 categories. Onw would be a building challenge limited to 32 x 32, the second would be a story challenge with no limit on size and the third would be a vignette challenge for those who really want to highlight working with figures, or with lmited time or resources.

On the judging and transparency issues... The judging will consist of three judges who will not be participants. These judges will write an "opinion" on which side they believe has won each of the three categories. Whichever side wins two of the three judges' votes wins the category and naturally the side that wins TWO categories is now the side that controls Nocturnus.

I can already see some wondering what will become of the already established leaders/characters in Nocturnus... though there will/maybe a new figurehead/guild colors for the guild, players from the "losing" side will be offered amnesty back into the winning faction- but if you don't want back in, maybe your character can flee to another land or plot and wait for the story to circle back to your guild for some revenge!

Because the management has become difficult with the real life duties of each of the guild leaders and because my real life responsibility is due in about two weeks, I would be directing this first campaign and would NOT be participating in the builds, though I would build the prelude scene(s) and would act as one of the three judges. This also cuts down on who needs to get authorization or to do what and if we move this structure to other guilds, it would be easy to get other active members in the guild we are centered on some management responsibilities for a time to try it out.

Prizes would consist of brick-built trophies. I *might* be able to get set prizes donated for each category as well, but that is not certain.

IF this structure is successful, it could be moved to other guilds to progress the story in each land. When we move to the next Guildland, we could elect new judges or co-director's to develope the story for that guild.

If something LIKE this was implemented, would you be excited? Upset? Intrigued? Ready to bolt to LCC?

I would be very excited for this....in fact I had been considering defecting to nocturnus anyway. Not because I don't love kaliphlin, but I wanted to help balance the number of builders. I'm in!

I would be very excited with this possible structure post book 1. While I didn't get to participate in the other challenges (Other than the minor 5th guild one), I did feel they were almost too large--well in the aspect that everything had to be done in a certain way and certain sizes—it was really intimidating (And the amazing builds didn’t help!). Having multiple categories works well for people without the abilities (Like meself) to build on a massive scale, and it varies up the contests as well. As a current Nocturnus member, I can see this working well for the guild's activity and it could possibly get some excess guild members to stay within Nocturnus after it's done.

I like the team work and guild specific competitions too. I think that's a great way to keep activity up in off periods. However, I do think gold should stay. I personally believe competition between the guilds is a good thing, as it's both playful fun and a motivation to build greater and out do your "enemies"--gold being a way to rank the guilds motivations. The problem with gold is clear however, as after a point, like currently, a guild (Cough Nocturnus Cough unfortunately) can fall far behind; without a clear reasoning--if we continue gold I think it should be more public at least in the sense of like how much gold was awarded per entry or free build (Are we still continuing those?) so we don't just wonder where the totals came from at the end of challenges.

Finally, thank you for being direct and informing us war competition hungry guild members in the loop. This will not only get people (Like myself) to appreciate the time you/leaders actually put into this, as well as relieve you of the plaguing questions we come up with!

Dr Rod has been in Nocturnus since the beginning, he also never shows his hand until the time is right.

He may or may not choose sides, he may just keep pottering about in the mountains getting up to no good, or may not.

Or maybe he will go cause havoc in the land of the tights, or maybe not.

I don't know what he is planning.

32x32 is too little though for the building challenge - stick with the 48x48 size.

And gold is for greedy folk  no use to you when you are dead.

@Z: Interesting, much thanks for sharing all of that. So individual challenge entries would not be scored? Brick built trophies are great prizes

I think the storyline would work well for Nocturnus, and give a chance to develop that guild. As well as letting lots of people build in a different style than they're used to

All in all it sounds pretty good :classic:

I would love to go all Nocty while still wearing green tights...

Chalk me up for one that loves every bit of that idea, Z.

Great idea ZC!

But what about the Drow? They still live in Nocturnus even if they are banned from the diplomatic theatre. Every now and then a messenger arrives with paintings or news from there. Can't there be a way to get them involved again? I am not talking about unban Angeli, but maybe some other way to let his contributions count?

And what about Mpya Stedor? As a long time ally of the Drow and some other Nocturnians, it would be a shame that they were pointed to the opposite side just because I am from Kaliphlin?

So maybe when dividing in teams, keep the history in mind of some members :classic:

Edit:

Maybe also really important is to help new members getting a bit up2date with the History of GoH

so maybe you guys can find a way to make the Wikia easily visible for everyone :classic: (like in a note on top of the forum)

I'm super new here but I love the sound of that ZC. The Drow were a significant factor in who and where I chose to be. I didn't realize that they were gone until afterwards. Perhaps someone or a few people will have the opportunity to take them back up again.

The Drow are still alive and unwell, there is just a prominent Drow builder who can no longer contribute.

I was unaware that Mpya Stedor had such strong ties to the Drow - they would do well to disassociate themselves, but maybe the problem runs deeper...

While the Wiki is nice, prospective members should be required to put some effort in if they want to join. At least do a little research on their chosen guild beforehand.

I dunno... I want joining to be as painless as possible!!

I would rather see some thought put into the guild choice. I don't want people to have to build anything special or "qualify" for a guild, but I'd like them to put some consideration into their choice.

It just doesn't seem like anyone is championing them now. It's not much fun to have a rival that doesn't have a voice to fight back. I think this idea would help fill that void a bit.

I agree that ideally new members should care to learn a bit about which guild they are joining but I think it's a good idea to make that information as easy to find and learn as is practical.

With any luck, the Drow will soon be eradicated and we won't have to worry about them anymore.

On the concept of the wiki, I don't think people should be required to work on it to join a guild/Historica, since I think that's kind of the reverse of what we need. Active members already in the guilds should be the ones to work on the pages since they know the most about what's going on, as well as have things to write down like character histories etc. I see the wiki as a way to collect canon and have it all in one place for a perspective member to look at.

Anyways, after that tangent, on a related note, who are the admin/creators of said wiki? There doesn't seem to be too many people working on it, and I know I'd like to make some changes only admins can do--like delete some pages (There's a lot of Kaliphlin pages that are basically lists of the same thing) and condense things to make it easier to navigate/find information.

Drow related, we might not have to worry about them, but I'd still like to know about them--and they're one of many things I can't find concise information on them to put into the wiki.

I can ask Angeli if he wants to contribute all the information about the Drow on the Wiki. That should be no problem I think :classic:

@my dear friend with the long ears: Mpya Stedor lays to far for the lazy Avalonians, so it is not that surprising that we got better relations with Nocturnus then with Avalonia!

@Cpt Nemo: I don't know exactly anymore who the admin is. I think Scubacarrot. But be carefull with what pages you want to delete (especially if it are Kaliphlin pages  we do like lists because it is easy to find something on it  )
