Alright folks I have a super important question. Having looked over the MAC results (and having them mailed to me), I really need to get a better light set up. Unfortunately, I'm rather broke at the moment. Does anyone know of a decent light set up that won't cost me over $35? And using natural light is almost an impossibility with the recent rain in my state.

A light with a white led could be a good idea maybe, it gives a bright light; a white/cold light, I think, is always better that a yellow/warm light. :classic:

Ever thought of making photo's outside, best set up there is. Preferably, during the day when it's cloudy: perfect photo's!

Yup! Just buy two white posterboards, go outside, and you're set!

Get some 'daylight' color CFLs and 2-4 desktop or clip lamps to stick them in. Avoid the 'bright white' variety--they're pretty yellow for some reason... LEDs are probably better, but the price tag for those suckers has scared me off so far.

Get a cheap pavilion tent with transparent roof (or of a white fabric which doesn't block too much light) and no walls and use it to keep out the rain, while enjoying the perfect diffuse photo light the rain clouds produce?

I picked up a plastic 10x10 feet pavilion tent with white roof (to use for my 30th birthday party next weekend) yesterday for the equivalent of $30, and that's with Swedish prices and taxes!

I just upgraded my setup for less than $35 bucks and it has made a world of difference in my photos.

These are the clamp lights I picked up from Walmart for less than $7.00 a piece. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Bayco-8.5-Clamp-Light/14003467

In them I put 100 watt Daylight bulbs, I find them to be the most neutral bulbs and they don't put out very much yellow or blue light in your photos.

Most of my MOCs will not fit in a standard light tent that you can buy, so instead I made a tri-fold matte board box that has worked out pretty well for me. Just take two pieces of white matte board -keep one whole and cut one in half. On the piece you cut in half, cut two large rectangles in the middle of the sheets and then cover the holes with a single layer of tissue paper. This is the section you will position the two lights behind to diffuse the light. Tape the two pieces to the back full board and there you have it.

I have a white table so I didn't bother putting anything as a base, so if your table isn't white I would suggest picking up a piece of white poster board to line the bottom. The best thing about it is that it folds up very flat, so it is easily stored behind a bookcase or shelf until you need to use it.

It may not look very professional, but it is cheap and does the job nicely- overall it was about $30. $14 (two clamp lights), $8 (4pack light bulbs), $4.00 (matte board), $3.00 (packing tape), $1.00 (tissue paper)

Well once Lord Rex and his army have finished restoring the Dark Isle, we would then like to conquer Nocturnus, clean it up and turn it into a theme park hosting regular beer festivals. It would give all those Drow something to do with themselves, and create many job opportunities.

Nocturnus would then be back on the map and people from all over Historica would come to visit!

The drow have grown old and feeble...

HAHAHA, I think stocks in Lord Rex Inc. just went up.

As for lighting, I wouldn't bother with a light box/tent -- I just spent 100 dollars on a professional light box, and the irregularity of MOCS makes it too hard to shoot in. I can shoot merchandise just fine, but LEGO doesn't seem to like it. I would go with what Eryn said, but I would also have a thin white sheet between the light and the model to diffuse the light further. Also, if you can do it, get a mini tripod for your camera, and shoot with the flash off. Or if you have a moving flash, point it up or away from the model so it bounces light (preferably off something white).

I'm still Avalonian for challenges and points. My story has taken a twist, that's all so please everyone quit hating on me. I don't hate on anyone because of their story.

Yeah, come on hippies, where is your famous love and peace? :D

It's good that you draw a line here. If we are going to se more conflict and competition within the guilds in the future we need to be able to distinguish clearly between "in character" hostility (totally ok) and "out of character" hostility (not ok).

Made a topic for sigfigs here, hope you guys like it :)

There should probably be an official sticky thread with this kind of information if we commit to that, but I think your way of writing it is not bad :)

I especially like the section with links to the parts, very useful!

It would also be good to know a characters wherabouts, but I can understand if this kind of information gets obsolete very fast if people don't update their posts in the thread often enough...

In addition, I think if we add secondary characters they should probably be added in a spoiler field to avoid unnessesary long posts in the thread.

I don't know about if the powers that be would like to make your thread sticky in the future, but I think we could go with that as a start :)

I will try to make a list of my parts anyways.

It is a good idea and we(Mitgardia) spoke about adding the members on the first page of a guild. I rather see that than yet an other sticky thread.

You mean a "characters location" thing like kai made? :D

It would be a good thing if everyone updates the wikia with their characters and other stuff :) especially because there is a chance I want to make a book of the first chapter... :)

Having each member in the first post of each guild would work just as fine as well I think, as long as the thread is created by someone who remains active in the forum and can add new members etc.

The benefit of a separate thread is that it will enable each member to manage their info themselves.

Regardless, I like the idea that everyone who wants to take part in Book II needs to re-signup for their guilds, to sort out who is active and not.

That way we might also collect some more information, for example requiring that some kind of parts reference be made (and added in a spoiler tag in the first post) in order to recreate other members sigfigs?

With hometown I meant the town the sigfig is representing(seeing we have a lot of earls, dukes and lords from random places :classic: )

and I understand that it is a hassle to keep things up-to-date, things are easily forgotten, but because members post the sigfigs themselves they can update it themselves(so any absent or gone starter is not an issue) the downside is the fact that yet another topic shall line itself above all the other ones.

But I will create my sigfig(hopefully avoiding copying, on the other side, hey look a knife... bam....shaved  ) and start deciding which Guild to pester :devil:

I agree with Ecc, in this subforum are already way too much sticked threads, so rather put them on the first side of the guild thread .

Grav's idea is good, it would also supplant Kai's index, which used to be stickied (same with the MOC index, what happened to that?) I like that it would be up to the individual builder to update it, that would save indexers time.

As for Book 2, I think the new guild threads should include the following:

Section One: Guilds of Historica Background

Section Two: Guild Background and theme

Section Three: Recent Guild History

Section Four: Guild members with detailed information (gathered from signing up for the guild again.

Section Five: Current guild challenges.

Or course, all of this would take a bit of time for whoever is running the thread, which is why Grav's idea might be more useful in detailing characters. Also, on the individual's thread, he/she could list the links to their MOCs, thus helping the indexer of the MOC index as well.

I support Ska his idea!

On another note, since the City Guide was always my "child" and it really needs to be updated soon, I would like to include heraldry in it :classic:

So do I have the permission of the regulators to make a topic where people can send in propositions?

To the mapmakers of all other guilds: is there a possibility to give me some updated maps? I think the only completed and up2date map of a Guild is my own Kaliphlin map

And again to all members: don't be shy and put some usefull information in our wikia!

Great idea ska! It must be very hard to come in as a new member to GoH with all the history we have made!

I´m not a big fan of the GoH wikia though. I think that it´s hard as it is to take in all of our GoH information and having some of it spread to other websites feels to much... I rather have the information gathered here on EB.

We luvs ya Beery. And we feel your pain. But you should join a more appreciative guild, because your builds are awesome. How about K........?

That's the problem in my eyes :sceptic: There have been already so many great moc's that it is sometimes impossible to find something back. Also a lot of information went lost in the depths of all the posts in the past almost 2 years...

Especially information about cities, locations & characters are really difficult to find back. I never want the wikia taking over EB, but I want to have it as a extern storage system for information. If a newcomer wants some information for example about my character, he can easily find everything on the wikia :sweet:
