UltraPrime Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Star Wars is what got me into Lego - I bought the Millenium Falcon 3 years ago now, and haven't looked back. I'm not a completist with Star Wars sets - I just pick and choose what I like. Hardly got any sets last year, but the only 06 sets I haven't picked up yet are the Sail Barge and X-Wing. I'll definately pickup Sail Barge soon, but not too sure about another X-Wing. The only remade set I have both of is Slave-1, but as they are both different colour schemes, and came with defferent era characters, I'm not too bothered about that - plus I picked up Jango's in a TRU clearance sale :) Quote
Sugarbushsquirrel Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I agree with you because all they are doing is remaking old legos with 2 different peices. They need more sets. I do like the at-st though *sweet* Quote
Hobbes Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I've never been into SW. I did buy a set in 99 or so, during my darkages, out of curiosity since I had seen Episode I before and was surprised LEGO made SW. Didn't do much for me, though, so I gave it to my brother. When I got back into LEGO it was through a train (who'd have thunk it?). SW still doesn't appeal to me. I like the movies, I've seen all 9 of 'em (Ep IV-VI, Ep IV-VI remastered, Ep I-III) but I still don't care about SW LEGO. And yes, I'm sick of it. I wasn't all too thrilled when I heard that the license has been renewed until 2011. Another 5(!) years of design manpower assigned away from other themes... To be honest, though, they're doing with SW what they've done with Town/City in the past: keep the theme alive, renew the bigger sets every 4-5 years (fire stations, police stations etc.), and add a few small ones inbetween... Athos Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 To be honest, though, they're doing with SW what they've done with Town/City in the past: keep the theme alive, renew the bigger sets every 4-5 years (fire stations, police stations etc.), and add a few small ones inbetween... That is a good point, to a certain extent, which is as far as it goes. With a police/fire station, there can be different architecture and style. With Star Wars, the architecture and style is already preset. Sure there can be innovations in the set design (as with the two Falcons), but in the end they are going to look very very similiar. The only real difference is in the varying degree of faithful/accuracy to the underlying design. Steve Quote
xenologer Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I think 7+ years is milking a franchise for far too long. Just how long ago was it that the last SW movie came out? How long can you expect something to stay popular? I think it's a bad move to keep making more SW sets; as time passes the fanbase will inevitably decrease and Lego ought to expand into other Space sets so they don't get pulled down with it(i dunno if exo-force is an example). I'm sure there will always be the most hardcore dedicated fans, who buy every single 300$+ UCS model... but that doesn't help the market as a whole... Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I'm still waiting for Lego to re-create a Hoth battle scene with a Rebel base, cannons, and a lot of Snowtroopers and Rebel Troops. In addition, I've always wanted to see an Ewok village in the trees. Until these sets are built, Lego can still build the SW sets. ;-) Quote

Since I am sure those MF packs will be so successfull, TLC might venture in the OT we can all hope ;-) Bring it ON !! Messa want more SW :-D *yoda* Quote
Vader Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I for one am not tired of SW but i am tired in legos lack of Empire sets and in particular the lack of hoth sets, its been eight years and people have been crying out for hoth sets yet we still have none. Damn it i want a lego taun taun and wampa!! not to mention more snowies and rebels and after seeing the way theyre shown in the new SW game i want them more than ever. Quote
SuvieD Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I was done with Star wars back in 2002. I like some of the parts and I would like to have one of each of the figures but really with how much they cost and the fact that the sets price ranges increase every year I will surely pass on all of them in future unless they are similar to the droid set coming out. Flesh tones destroyed any real desire for the figures anyway so that pretty much ruins any desire for any set. I can pick up parts a year or so after release for pennies each and just skip all the garbage I don't want in the first place. Remakes don't bother me much though. I would just like to get a starwars chess set/ or somehow get minifigure sets. Everything else can be left for the ebay vultures. Quote
Vaders_son Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Well to answer your question: NO I'M NOT and I WILL NEVER EVER BE!!! Star Wars is the very best Lego ever produced. I am happy with new sets but I do appreciate the redone sets, too. For Example I am soo looking forward to the MTT in 2007 because I missed the first one :-( I was about ten years old back then and with some pocket money of about 2 Quote
Jipay Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Are you going to revive all the old topics btw ? Quote
oo7 Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 But I have to admit: - I don't like the Fleshtones and they are not that easy to replace if they are of a main character like Tarkin you don't have the exact face of in *natural* yellow. I don't own the MF ISD (or the UCS for that matter) but I've used the head of Vladek from KK2 with gray hair for a surprisingly good looking GMT. Quote
Scouty Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 ...Blasphemer! I could never get sick of anything Star Wars! Quote
xenologer Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 A month ago I would have said: "YES im Tired of SW! The movies have not played in theaters for... (how many years??) its getting really old!" But that was back when SW was holding back Space due to potential competition. Now that we know Space is coming back regardless, it really doesn't bother me. :-D I'm not about to start buying more of them tho, they still look pretty *bleh* compared to the other themes for 2007... Sting Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 I think they are cool, but in the end it gets a little ridiculous. How many remakes are they going to have? But I guess there are still some things they could still do with it that they haven't done yet! Quote
Dino_Bot Posted November 3, 2006 Posted November 3, 2006 I expect these guys to make more lego sets. At least 'till Bionicle dies. Quote
Vaders_son Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 Are you going to revive all the old topics btw ? You're asking me? - Well if yes...I'll try, but we don't have a flatrate so it's expensive to be hours in the internet reading posts...but nontheless I'll try. I don't own the MF ISD (or the UCS for that matter) but I've used the head of Vladek from KK2 with gray hair for a surprisingly good looking GMT. Nice Idea - I'll try that. thx Quote
Starwars4J Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 You're asking me? - Well if yes...I'll try, but we don't have a flatrate so it's expensive to be hours in the internet No, I think you misunderstand, he doesn't want you bringing old topics back ;-) There's really nothing more to be said in this topic since it died so long ago, I can understand why you'd want to contribute though. Just remember in the future :-) Quote
Vaders_son Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Ok I'm sorry about that - just wanted to tell my opinion to that topic. But I'll take care of it in the future Quote
SWMAN Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I will always be loyal to Star Wars, not matter what comes out. I think the Episode II sets were weak, as well as the Episode I sets. I think that they redeemed themselves with Episode III. I love all of the OT sets, and love that they redo sets and release them. THe old AT-ST and Y-Wing were bad, but these look great, as well as the guns. The new Battle Packs opens up a new area of legos. And, with the 30th Anniversayr of SW next year, lego can release some special edition sets. I am happy their contract was extended. Quote

I gotta disagree with you on that one, for me the first sets released from ep 2 were some of the best. We got great sets like the Republic Gunship, Jangos Slave 1 and the Bounty Hunter Pursuit and i strongly believe that we were really lucky to have them all at once. That said i agree with you on the ep1 sets but it should be remembered that lego were just starting out with the SW license at the time. If they did new versions of the ep1 sets im sure they would be alot better than the ones we had, as for the y-wing well that was one of the better ships from the first batch though the new version sure outshines it. HJR-Holland Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 ...I think the Episode II sets were weak... Two codes: 7163 & 4482. Caling them bad is blasphemy IMHO :-X Quote
