I regret not joining in the Guild of Historica. Nonetheless, Nocturnus Guild is by far the best. All of you have made amazing MOCs, and created some of the most unique mini-figs. Keep up the good work!

well... join now! :) Or, if you joined some other guild, defect now! :)

Come to the Drow city, we are the most peaceful and pleasant elfish race that exists, and there will be a lot of fun things to do here ;)

Just write "I am coming to the Drow" and it will be done ;)

Looking forward to your celestial city! Is the 'celestial' feature of the city going to be that it's tall and slim, or are you going to locate it in the clouds as well?

well, I do not know, to tell you the truth... Today I will grab few hours of building, and we will see... I would like to build it on a cloud and I've been thinking about that a lot, but all the white bricks that I have are used in that small cloud from Llurth Dreir, and although it has been dissembled, I could not cover large area, especially if it is going to have random "cloud" look... On the other hand, I could use it as a "rock", cloud would be seen only here and there, in fragments... Also, I could use the whole surface of the table, put baseplates around the castle and cover them with white plates (which I also do not have :))), and simulate surface of the cloud, and put soldiers fighting there. It would look fantastic, especially if I put few of them sinking in :)

And for this castle, I am going to aim at "big picture" something like this (made by Bob Carney):

model2.jpg

And I am going to incorporate a detailed scene inside showing crystal hunt. If I want the castle to be recognizable and with impact on the first look, I can not go into much details while building. On the outside :) But inside, I can do what ever I want :) I am going to try to meld those those things together - big in big scale, and interesting in small, i.e. up close...

On the other hand, I would like it to have this kind of look:

(remember Ched Nasad?)

These are impressive.

That's the kind of moc I hope to build one day. I yet to have the brick and the space for it.

Just to be clear again, those castles are made by [bob Carney, as suggested in the text above ;) (expt last one which is mine:)

A celestial castle for challenge 3 - this is part of the entrance floor in front of the castle, as an entrance to the angel-park.

I really do not know how this will turn out, deva city made of red bricks, and I keep in my rights to change the story (and city:) into something evil :))))

Notice her golden crown, robe with collar, wings and praying hands :) (particularly proud of:)

If I get my hands onto few white bricks, the whole castle will be on a cloud. If not... well, we will have to use our imagination ;)

Wow that is epic!!!!!

That floor is definantly stunning!

It would be awesome if you could make all the floor in your build studless. Are you building separate interiors, or is this going to be implemented into 1 total build?

If you lack in white bricks for the cloud, perhaps using your black bricks as a floating rock could be an idea? similar to this build of our mighty guildleader:

Wow, that's a great moc :)

But, sadly, I can not do that. Luna Ilirijana, my new moon keep will be so massive, that it will have to have a flat base. It's weight would crush anything else, and something that is not flat, like baseplate would make a great momentum of force to the highest point of castle (well, I know how to say it on my language, "moment inercije", (maybe "moment of inertia"?) meaning that the greater the angle, the bigger the force.

I will order some white bricks from the bricklink, it will not be much, around 35e, and it will be enough for all the clouds. But this requires time, and I already started building :) I will make clouds with flat bottom and flat up surface, and the castle will "fit in" at the end ;)

Actually, there will be three great buildings on clouds, connected with bridges, and I plan the greatest and the longest one I've built yet ;) And in Menzoberranzan I've made a bridge that was more then half a meter long, holding itself with only four studs ;) Check the pictures ;)

---

But with this castle, I will have a great problem - how to make buildings not "Drow-like"? I only have bricks that I have, the ones I use in all of my mocs, black and red... How to make it more "celestial"? I will use heavilly water, and I will try to cover all of flors with orange cheese slopes mosaics, but that will not be enoughf, I think... Any suggestions?

I see your point on the rock. My builds usually don't have an issue with weight :)

Hmm, to make it more celestial. I guess it depends on what you interpret as celestial. If I type 'heaven' in google-images I get a lot of staircases:

stock-photo-staircase-to-heaven-25186594.jpg

so perhaps a staircase to the cloud? I saw this one recently:

5259546527_4993266624_m.jpg

To make it less Drow, perhaps a different type of architecture. In google images 'heaven' i noticed these pictures that use a more 'classical roman' type of architecture. Not sure if you want to step away from the drow-architecture though.

new_jerusalem.jpg

Perhaps using a lot of wings?

Heaven_4h.jpg

Still, if you see what colour does to a place, it's going to be a tough nut to crack.

sorry for flouding the forum with pictures like this. Is there a way to shrink them in a post?

great idea, especially the stairway ;)

cmon my guild-brothers&sisters, join the conversation ;)

How to make our evil cities more celestial, with colors at hand?:)

I would say use lots of arches and not as many formidable-looking buildings. I would assume celestial palaces would not be well defended, for why would they expect attack? i would focus on form over function, and have graceful curves and such.

If you are referring to the Crystal quest for round 3. Only a member of each guild can attain the crystal from their land, as is the lore of Derfel's back story.

note: there will be others in the city ;)

Hey Angeli, How do you get the wings off Buzz Lightyear's Armor? Do you break them?

Posted

Nope, I do not think that you have to break them, there is a whole for them in every side...

(I've bought that armor without wings, but I am 100% that they are detachable)

Look:

They have that green extension (on the right of this picture) that goes into the whole in the armor. That hole is the same as other holes, and inside you can fit a normal lego bar (I've fitted those plums inside without problems)

I realize its a little late, but if any Nocturnus builders are interested in some feedback on how to improve their building post Round 2, then shoot me a PM. We are afterall hoping to improve everyone's building skills and enjoy a great collaboration in Historica.

Any one have ideas to kick Nocturnus along with some free builds? Should we flesh out our swamplands? Design ramshackle accommodation? build portions of farm land(what ever Nocturnians harvest  )

Cheers from a tired and busy ISC, who still wants to help out. :classic:

Well, I'm very interested in what you planned our capital to look like? Or did you plan Abyssan as a project of your own? If not, perhaps we could start thinking about it's design and layout?

Well I was originally planning on building the capital city castle, though it looks like it will have to wait till after Brickworld and Sydney Brick Show. I would really like to see the city itself built up on top of a swamp/marsh. I was/still am planning on building it atop a lime green SNOT base. Perhaps we could brainstorm a motif for the walled capital?

I like the idea of a snake/dragon theme to the stonework, which I incorporated into my throne room build. See the floor pattern and the stone snakes wrapped around the columns.

Here are two WIP from my Treasure Hunt

This is progressing nicely Hersbrucker. The inspiration pic looks sweet for the temple which appears to be taking shape nicely. Will the grassland be covered with vegetation/overgrown?

Take time to think of the best angle for your photos too, this may force changes in the position of the temple. Will the action shot be of the team pulling ashore and gazing up towards the temple? You may wish to move it closer to the river, with bushland behind it. You may even want to angle it as well to break up the rectangular nature of the MOC. The stream looks great so far as does the rock archway. I feel it may be lost with the temple so far away from it unless the rock work continues closer. Get down and scope out the best angles that make it work for your idea of action/story telling.

Most interesting. I like the idea of the snake/dragon theme. Reminds me of Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian :)

So a lime green SNOT base like this? (not sure this is lime-green though)

And a village on top of it:

Check out John Avon, http://www.johnavon.com/ he painted the third pic you posted. Pretty sure I own a print of that piece. I like the use of green as well as lime for swamp. Trans green tiles work well too.

Anyone else have some ideas for Abyssian?

The WIP is coming along nicely.
