Tomcat RIO Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 great Jarl, I accept the challenge of the Siege master and Economy titan mini-build challenge. Building them at the moment. Will submit in about a week or 2, but definitely before the deadline..
TomTheTruckdriver Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Well, we found time to set up a simple, yet effective tower. The first two local militia men are taking the first guard duty. A local girl has stopped by to bring them freshly baked bread (the smell is incredible) and smoked salmon. Honestly, perhaps we should just stay here ourselves with this kind of support. The local brewery even promised to provide free barrels of mead! The tower is protected by several thick layers of hardwood planking. We've used them for target practise and out finest arrows wouldn't even stick in the wood. We donated some of the weaponry we've collected during our travels. It should be plenty to fight off any bandits that come along. In case of a big emergency, the wood filled basket on top of the flagpole will be set alight to warn the locals. Me and my men are just about to leave this area. We're thinking of visiting some old friends of mine who life on the edge of a good sized lake. It's usually frozen and they have become expert icefishers over the years. Hopefully they are willing to contribute part of their catch to Mitgardia's growing army. Hrolf
soccerkid6 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) Here is the temporary watchtower my men and I have been working on. We will soon be making a permanent watchtower. OOC: This is my first try doing snow, I thought it came out ok. I know this is to late for the contest, but I wanted to get it done. Like I said I will be doing another better one soon. As you can see I used Duplos for the base, they work pretty well to build it up. The tower opens up for easy access, and the roof on the house lifts off. Edited December 1, 2011 by soccerkid6
Ecclesiastes Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) Great to see so much towers in Mitagardia guys. We are well defended this way And talking about defending, I did find some time to make an entry for the Siege Master Mini Challenge: See more in the topic: Mitgardian Catapult Battery And I've also worked on the presentation of the watchtower: See more in the topic: Guarding to road to Valholl Edited December 1, 2011 by Ecclesiastes
rucorder Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) Well Ecclesiastes beat me to the punch, but here is my (much less impressive) contribution to our arsenal of siege weapons. Mitgardian Mangonel by Ru Corder, on Flickr Video on Flickr Edited December 1, 2011 by rucorder
Alex the Great Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Well done on the wachtowers guys, hopefully i can build one before the timeline ends. Really good work Ecclesiastes on yours, I really like the look of it!
Man with beard Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 My watchtower is complete! I will be posting it soon.
Sirens-of-Titan Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 Great entrees so far Guildsmen! It looks like the other Guilds are building up quite heavily, so I strongly encourage that all Mitgardians partake in the mini building challenges; the more buildings the better! The siege weapons look great guys! Now, this is where I ask you the members for input; what do you think we should build next? (Next meaning after the Dec. 15 challenges) Please feel free to throw around ideas; the major challenges are determined by Guild Leaders, but the themed free builds are entirely in the hands of the Guildsmen.Let's get some good suggestions and I'll put a poll up so that we can vote on the next glorious stage of out guild's development. The Northern Frontier Beckons!
rucorder Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 In respone to ideas for challeges, maybe trading posts and markets? To build Mitgardia up economically as well as millitarilly.
Viceroy Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 In respone to ideas for challeges, maybe trading posts and markets? To build Mitgardia up economically as well as millitarilly. I was thinking along these lines too. Maybe a mini challenge to build a stall/scene/shop in the Market District of Valholl?
Ecclesiastes Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 A few suggestions on the challenges: -Joust/Tournament: Good for the training of our men, and for our economy! -Ships: To secure our shores and rivers. -Bridges: Looking to our map, we have lots of rivers, so maybe it's nice to see some nice bridge-designs.
mcfarlandman Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Wow - great towers everyone! A question for our leader - Can we use an equivalent size for our watchtower (for example a 16x64 rather than a 32x32)? For the next challenge I think it would be fun to do something non-military related - maybe a festival or holiday scene to showcase the culture of our land.
Sirens-of-Titan Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 The size limit is specified as 32X32 max, so i am afraid we can't make exceptions. If you must build smaller that is OK, but larger is something we decided to disallow. Great ideas so far, let's get a few others in, would anyone be interested in building a temple for our Guild? I'm thinking something out of Norse Mythology; giant wooden halls and gods that look like Thor and Odin (We'll change the names of course) . As a matter of fact I am adding this as a mini challenge: Mini Challenge 4: Design an original temple and story that are official for the entire guild. Include a symbol that will be recognized in all of Historica as the Mitgardian religious sign. (get creative here) The temple doesn't have to be big, it can be a shrine, or an interior. Include the official dress of the priests and priestesses and if your design is good we will make it official for the Guild and may make somebody "Head priest of the (fill in the blank with name of religion) of Mitgardia. This is also due the Dec. 15th deadline, and will be the last mini challenge added before that time. (Note: please have fun with this and take it as part of the mythology of the world, we aren't trying to get overly involved in religious debate. Thanks in advance! ) I am looking forward to more great entrees, so far i am more than happy with the quality and quantity of builds coming in!
Cara Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 (edited) If possible I'ld like to sign up for this guild please. I never get that much time over Christmas but hopefully this continues past then! When I think of norse and midgard, as a symbol I think of the world serpent Jormungand/Ouroborus. The serpent that has its tail in its mouth. Thank you, Cara. Alex the Great Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Are we allowed to do more than one entry for a minichallenge? Or should I just change one of my ideas a bit to fit another category?
Sirens-of-Titan Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 @ Cara: Welcome aboard! I look forward to seeing your ideas! @Alex: You may do as many mini challenges as you wish.

Kklaklaklara Posted December 4, 2011 Posted December 4, 2011 Nice DMB! The functionaly is incredible and it`s powerfull. The enemiewalls will shake of fear.
Sirens-of-Titan Posted December 4, 2011 Author Posted December 4, 2011 @ Fat Tony: Wow that's mind-blowing! Not only does it indeed look "dwarven" it's functionality and scale simply renders this one of the best siege engines i have ever seen made of bricks. I'll have a few dozen to Guard the Royal Palace of Valholl. Well done sir!!
Man with beard Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 My watchtower! It Isn't much, but I wanted to contribute something.
kabel Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) @mwb: it'd be better to rezize the images, it makes watching them easier I finally had some good light today, so I was able to take new pictures of my tower. I know it's still not perfect, but I'll leave it at this, gotta get going with other projects. Edited December 5, 2011 by kabel

Fat Tony Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 That thing is a beast! Gonna have to strengthen our Avalonian walls me thinks! Nice work Don't mess with the Dwarves! @Kklaklaklara: For Mitgardia! @ Fat Tony: Wow that's mind-blowing! I'll have a few dozen to Guard the Royal Palace of Valholl. Well done sir!! Thanks so much. It turned out better than I had planned. I may try to build another one and make instructions. We'd just have to be sure to keep this technology out our enemies' hands. What do you think?
Viceroy Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 (edited) @ Fat Tony : I want one one of those!! Seeing as how the other guilds have been moving forward with their map making efforts I thought I'd give you a little preview to show that we are not being left behind. I shall be adding all your location requests later this week hopefully. And S-O-T, I wont forget your sea monster Hope you like! Hvar Icewind Worlds End Caravan Co. PS. If anyone can suggest a more Nordic font that would be appreciated. I'm also looking for a few good map symbols for villages towers etc. Edited December 6, 2011 by Viceroy
