I will have one of my entries for the Defenses challenge up fairly soon (probably within a week). I am going to be entering the slums challenge as well. And I hope to make another entry for the defenses challenge (more siege weapon oriented than my main entry) Hopefully I will be able to get them all done in time :classic:

Edit: After looking at my defenses entry I realized it is 28x36(plus a two stud border on 3 sides)

which comes to 1008 studs (without the border), the limit is 32x32 which comes to 1024 studs.

My entry will be eligible right? :cry_sad:

This is the first time I have even been near the size limit on a MOC other than a vignette

I guess that means my collection is growing

Eccles: From which set is your sigfig's face? I'm building a valholl market scene and it would be cool if I could add some of you guys in it! If anyone wants to partake, let me know! A photo of your sigfig or a link to one would help big time!

^hear hear :sweet:

@Blaze, I would love to have Sir Glorfindel included, here is a pic: Ch.3-minifigs%20%28640x480%29.jpg

he is the one on the bottom, second from the left. He wears a pearl dark grey helmet with pointed visor sometimes as well.

That looks great darkdragon  You aren't going to give it it's own topic?

I don't know if it deserves it's own topic. If you guys think so, then I'll do some more photos and create a topic for it.

Very nice DarkDragon! Great scene. And Soccerkid: I'll defineatly use sir Glorfindel! He may used a razor or is wearing his helmet, 'cause I don't own that face

Ok that's fine :classic: I purposely chose a non-common head, so no surprise you don't have one. The helmet would probably be preferable to a different face, though either is fine. Looking forward to seeing it!

One question to the big boys: I guess so far my biggest obstacle in the way of becoming a better mocer is photography. I realize that I've used a lot of white lately and will be doing so in my challenge III moc. So my question is, what's the best background for this, and how should I do the lighning. And yes, my cam is a piece of megabricks, so that has to be taken into account too.

I can only tell you what I've found to be effective. (That's not to say it's the best way to do it)

First of all, it depends on whether you use natural light or not. If yes then location is everything. If not then get ready for a whopper because half the battle is getting the lighting right.

What I can say for sure is; use white cardboard or nylon cloth both under and behind the model. Avoid sheets/clothes as the wrinkles are unavoidable and cast deep shadows. I don't know what kind of camera you have but if you have a macro setting, as well as adjustable shutter speed use them!Sometimes a slight bit of overexposure is all it take to make a really dark picture look it's natural color. But it's mostly in the lighting. Let me give you an example:

These 2 pictures were taken with the same exact camera and settings and the only difference was the lighting I used. See the difference?

You see the quality improve? It's only because I got better at getting the lighting right. If you need tips on that I'll PM you because otherwise I'll congest this thread.

good to see, mitgardia is kicking butt again, great stuff there guys!!

Indeed, that's a good sign! And even more with your promising looking guardian!

And about photography, I'm not that good. And my camera isn't either but making photo's outside can help a lot. And than the best time is a cloudy day in the afternoon. Works for me!

@Blaze it's in the following sets: bricklink info and btw, I send the diamant yesterday! Little bit delayed but it will reach you soon!

@ Blaze, i regards to your quetion about including sigs in a market scene, I would like to have mine included as well please, just check my profile page for a picture.

SoT and Eccy are right on the money. It's ALL about the lighting. Take pictures OUTSIDE and take them in a shaded area or when it is cloudy so there are no shadows.

Does it make a difference... you tell me!

Inside, at night without natural light

Outside in the shade...

Thanks SoT... thanks to your pesky extention I am working on an additional element for challenge 3. Nothing too special, but a little fun trip down memory lane...

Anyhow, as for that photo... that was outside, in the shade, with white cardboard underneath and my stucco house for the backdrop... I think if I retook the pics, I would elect to use cardboard behind the build as well, though the stucco does give a fun bit of fun texture. I think that is going to be the way to go for me from now on.

I don't want to hijack this thread, just show that lighting is the big key to getting the photo sharp and looking good. Avalonians shouldn't spill all their secrets in here!

I understand, but you could still post more pics in the Avalonia guild thread!
