Garmadon Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Green cloaks (capes or coats, whatever you call them) also come on some minifigs, or at least the elf from S3, which is where I got one from. Anyway, I hope to get a WIP of my challenge VI entry up in a couple of days, if possible. About the soldiers, though, I can build about four that are the same, so I might have to modify my plans a bit.
Cara Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 About the soldiers, though, I can build about four that are the same, so I might have to modify my plans a bit. Yes its going to take some creative use of posing to hide different torsos or matching capes and helmets but not underneath to get units of similar troops. Looks like I'm going to be breaking into some collectible minifigure packets and my kingdoms chess set that I'd been keeping mint until just such a build needed them.
kabel Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 @cara; great to see that you're back with us again! I feared you had given up for good as have so many others. So, I'm really looking forward to your new mocs, I'm sure they are going to be awesome!!
Cara Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) Thank you! Fantasy builds really are where my first love is. Thing is I wasn't going to do it because I knew I couldn't get it done for the end of March due to a very busy real life in Dec/Jan even though I had a few ideas I really did want to try! So I'd just been reading the boards and chatting occassionally. But then they give one more month and suddenly I'm wishing I had have started in February!!! Because three mocs in a month and a half is insane for me. I barely get one done in that time. I have plans for the other two but do I have time? Who knows. If nothing else I will have the battle scene complete and a free build. I need to bricklink some specific coloured pieces. I am having so much fun fiddling around with my substitute for the trebuchet. I didn't have enough distance for the trebuchet I thought the build needed, it wouldn't have been the right proportions. You wouldn't have an enormous seige machine in range of the walls after all. So then I thought about animal mounted seige machines and liked the elephant idea but didn't want to do an elephant. Then I thought about a computer game called guildwars that I used to play. So if any of you played the second expansion of the original version, you might figure out what I'm up to =) Once I get his head on I'll take some pictures, but I took a break to work on the walls. Blaze Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 Upgraded the Valholl soldiers of SoT a bit: Ah i see Blaze is demoted to foot soldier
kabel Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 that's what happens to those who don't shell out enough mocs
Cara Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 (edited) I went searching for a Slope, Inverted 45 2 x 2 Double Convex in light blueish grey and couldnt find any. Go to look it up and I still can't find one existing !?!?!?? I am floored. Either my bricklink search foo is on the fritz or lego has never created a castle with an inverted corner? This seems bazaar. Oh well, I'll turn one row upside down and use upward facing corner slopes. What a faff! Edited March 22, 2013 by Cara
kabel Posted March 22, 2013 Posted March 22, 2013 I got quite a bit in dark grey, black and red, no light bley though, never seen it
soccerkid6 Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 @Cara: Looking forward to your builds, I'm sure they will be spectacular
Cara Posted March 23, 2013 Posted March 23, 2013 Aww thank you! That is wonderful encouragement. I love seeing all the builds here, they are some of the best around.

I am no longer afraid to experiment with torsos which has opened up a lot of possibilities.
SkaForHire Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Sorry I missed it a couple days ago, but Infernum, that looks great! Can't wait to see your story unfold! As for customizing figs - I too have a weakness when it comes to ripping off arms, but have done a little lately. I just wish it wasn't likely to make them all flimsy... especially on collectable figs (which I rarely obtain just to "collect")
Simon_S Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I have no problems with ripping off the arms of the minifigs, since I don't buy them to collect, I rather build with them . I also collected all col. minifigs, but since the people here in Switzerland pay a very high price (store price is 4$/minifig here, means I can sell a Spartan for 20 ) I got rid of most of my "non-Castle" collection...
Kai NRG Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I do my best not to rip off arms on CMFs/newer figs more than necessary, for one thing they're harder to get in and out... plus I don't have enough similar torsos anyway to make that necessary for an army.
Rogue Angel Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I have no problems with ripping off the arms of the minifigs, since I don't buy them to collect, I rather build with them . The issue for me is that I don't want to end up with loose arms when I swap them on a torso. I've had a pretty good success rate though - maybe 5% of the torsos I changed have loose arms. That makes me feel better about it. I still hate to "break" a piece though, which is essentially what happens when an arm/torso gets too stressed and will no longer hold a tight joint.
gedren_y Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I have no compunction when it comes to removing arms. Most of my unused torsos have no arms. I keep the arms in a separate container. Soon I will be taking apart the CMF 9 Policeman for his dark blue arms and legs.

Soon I will be taking apart the CMF 9 Policeman for his dark blue arms and legs. I did this too, and switched the arms into the Rohan soldier, essentially in GOH terms, changing him from Mitgard / Avalonian to Kaliphlin. Too bad I only have a handful of these Rohan guys... I thought getting so many policemen was a curse at first, but you are right, the dark blue parts are very useful.
Ecclesiastes Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 I have no problem at all, playing around with torso's and arms. I love it. But I threat them with care so I actually never had lose arms or cracks in torso's.
kabel Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 as Mitgardian you are eventually forced to remove the arms, there simply is no other way to get the green arms into the chainmail torsos ...

Same here, it makes it a lot easier to build the exact minifig you want quickly. as Mitgardian you are eventually forced to remove the arms, there simply is no other way to get the green arms into the chainmail torsos ... Yes, and it is a pity that Lego doesn't use more green arms . Anyhow, I'll probably getting a WIP of my first challenge VI build up today. I'm done with the rock, and will be doing the landscaping today. If it sounds wierd, it will make sense with the WIP.
nivremis Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 (edited) It is in the darkest times that one finds the truest friends and allies. I am Nivre, and these indeed are dark times. I am on a quest, but where to, I know not. The only thing for sure is that the answers I seek lie within the rocky ranges beyond Mt Mitgard. As such, I humbly ask safe passage from the kind inhabitants of this land, and in return you have my word that when the time is right you will not find me ungrateful. Hello everyone. Looking to join up with Mitgardia, (for those of you who missed my very very brief intro in the main thread - http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=80640). Had a bigger backstory in mind, but figured I'll rather try to get something for Challenge 6 out by the weekend first (don't hold your breath, I'm pretty much new to the whole business of Moc-ing and also have so so limited bricks ) Edit: yes that is the tree from attack of the wargs Edited March 25, 2013 by nivremis
kabel Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 (edited) Welcome nivre, you definetely joined the right guild!!! It's good to have you here in the North were dwarfs are at home!! Edited March 25, 2013 by kabel
Garmadon Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 You certainly did. Welcome to Mitgardia, Nivre ! Anyways, as for the WIP I promised today: And for the soldiers fronts: Another pic at my Flickr. I'm not sure yet if I will make a separate thread for this since I hope top be finished somewhere around the end of this week or the begining of the next.
soccerkid6 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 @nivremis: Glad to have you in Mitgardia For Challenge VI you can always build one scene, take it apart then build the next etc. @Garmadon: What is going to be on top of the cliffs? @Buurli_Burri: Anticipating another great build for your second scene
