What a barrage of excellent builds from the north, I am awestruck!

But I agree that some good builds may not get the attention they deserve in the shadow of some of the others.

waiting for the sky to clear so that I can take better pics!!

Somewhat ironically, that's more or less where I am... though not on GoH projects so much.

Posted (edited)

so I waited two days for the sky to clear and nothing happened. Guess I'll have to redo the pics. Anyway, here is my contribution. Not as good as Eccs, not as many as Soccerkid, but hey I work and I've got a family to take care of ...

redid the pics:

Sorry to be a debbie-downer here, because all of these builds were very nice.

Was all that Mitgardian posting meant to count as free builds??? I was under the impression if they were related to their entry, they don't count for scoring. I also now have figured why LCC has a scored build limit per month. It is a bit... unfair... to do that right before the end of scored builds. Especially, since I am guessing you all didn't just build them in the last week or two. Actually, when is the end of scored builds? It used to be a month after Chal VI, but then Chal VI was moved. So shouldn't it be May 30th? I never really cared about who won the final point total, but I kind of feel like if this was an organized play to win the total, that it taints the end of this chapter. Which is sad, because these are all good builds.

@Ska:

I'm a bit confused by what your saying. I was under the impression they built them all in the past month, then posted them all at once, like the flash build on FlickR.

As far as I understand it, if you give your build a separate topic from your challenge VI entry then it counts as a free build, if you put it in your challenge VI topic then it can help your Challenge VI score.

And for a limit on builds per member, then wouldn't Avalonia win because they have the most members? If there is a build limit it cuts into the fun in my opinion. I think the more builds the better, as long as they are good builds which you already said these were. And in GoH bad builds aren't really going to help as they won't score barely any points.

I agree with SK that no limit is nicer. It might have been nice if all these builds had been revealed little by little, but that would destroy the impressiveness of it! It would have been/be nice to know more certainly and with a couple weeks in advance as to when free-build points end. As far as the question about Challenge VI, only what's in that topic counts as Challenge VI, but ZC did say you would likely get more points by having the builds just for story purposes rather than as separate free builds.

I think all of the builds are great! However, the GoH forum is a bit messy right now. I can't really keep up, so the forum isn't neat and nice. But all impressive builds!

@ Infernum, no I know they probably did them over time. That is what I said, whereas I am impressed by the coordinated strike... it didn't really leave the best taste of sportsmanship in my mouth, since none of the other guilds have time to really respond. It is totally legal, and a good tactic to win, I just was a little shocked to see something so bold used in what has been thus far a very friendly competition. They are all excellent builds and well worth commenting on!!! I just didn't think it was in the nature of the competition thus far. Also, I was not saying we should have build limits, just that I now realize why LCC has them -- to prevent major racking up of points like this. I don't think we need limits, I just now understand why the other project has limits now.

Also, I didn't mean any of those as personal attacks against anyone, like I said, they are all excellent builds, and you all are my friends. I guess I should have said "Touche Mitgardia, Touche." (I think that is the correct spelling for Touche.)

@SK, I don't know if we had any clear clarification about this, it seemed that anything related to a challenge, even if it had its own thread would be part of the challenge and scored as an auxiliary build rather than a free build... but who knows. Also, as Kai said, it would have been nice to have a firm date for the cutoff.

Actually what made me a little angsty was, as Brickinton said, the forum is a bit complicated now. I am not sure if all of those builds couldn't have been scored separately but posted on the same thread.

There's still a very important difference between the scoring in GoH and LCC that you might have missed. In LCC, you get the same amount of points for each freebuild you submit, means you get two points regardless of which quality your MOC is. Here there is a different scoring, so submitting a lot of small and not that good builds won't get you a lot of points , in comparison if you could add as many freebuilds as you want in LCC... :classic:

It's nearly impossible for me right now to comment on all those freebuilds (time, where are you?), but in a general note, I can say they are one by one very excellent!

Like Ska said: "Touché Mitgardia, touché!" (@Ska, it is with a 'é' )

The only thing I am kinda disappointed about is how Mitgardia was the only Guild who knew that the deadline for freebuilds wasn't extended...

I was absolutley sure that the Guildleaders first said: "one month after the deadline of Chapter VI". And the reason for this was because they need at least a month for judging everything (and voting) and there would be a lot of "Aftermath Freebuilds", all with a relation to the Chapter I of GoH. It will also last at a month before we will have decided what direction GoH will go to (making it impossible to already start building on Chapter II of GoH)

So honestly, I am really puzzled by the fact the deadline for the freebuilds was not forwarded till 31 May :sceptic:

In every case, if you guys win the point challenge, you will have deserved it, because that "winter is coming" thing was absolutely genius!

Oh come on ska, we had some fun planning a bunch of freebuilds and posting all of them at the same point. That's all!

@Kabel, I didn't say it was wrong! Just a little surprised and wish it was done in time that other guilds could have had a chance to respond in kind. I never really cared about points total, and I am not really sure anyone in Kaliphlin does either... I am glad you all had fun doing it, and like I said, it was a really cool concept.

As DM said, it would be nice to have had the firm deadline in hand for everyone else, but I guess this is an advantage of having a guild leader who is active!!!

I, personally am offended. I won't ever look at any of your guy's moc's ever again. Really. The way I see it, you guys disrespected all non- Mitgardians GoH'ers. You did this as an ultimate insult to bump off all non-Mitgargian challenge six entries by taking over and pushing everyone else off who spent a lot of time on this contest so you can constantly bump. I will be quitting GoH because of this.

Obviously, this did come as a blizzard really does. Unexpected and with force!

But it was all about the fun of building and showing some Mitgardian Muscle! And yes most of our builds won't get that much attention, but that doesn't matter because the planning and building was allready fun  . And that's what it's all about. But ofcourse also a tiny bit of competion, so yes they count as free-builds. But compared to challenge entries, free builds don't get that many points. So after all I think this will help our overall scoring, but it won't get us at the top that instantly

About freebuilding/deadline:

If the deadline for freebuilds would be the same as the deadline for challenge 6 their wouldn't really be a motivation for most of us to build. So keep the free builds coming and shows us what you gut. We just showed some Mitgardian muscle. Plenty of time for the other guilds to strike back!

That was not the intent what so ever. We wanted to make a bunch of Mitgardian MOCs, and if it had been our goal to cover up Challenge VI entries we wouldn't have posted our builds till the 30th...

As Ecc said, get more free builds coming (I'm expecting a fair few from Legonardo and Kai  ), and as to the competition aspect, GoH is set up to be a team competition :look:

b u l l s h i t bb, I posted the last update to my challenge VI entry (on which I have build since October and only four people have commented on) two days before this and now its gone as well. Do I wine now? Come on dude, I think you're being a bit too melodramtic now! People always like your stuff and comment on your mocs like crazy. Only a few people like my stuff, you usually not among them. Do I feel offended? No - not a big deal for me I like building that's all!! So why is it so hard to take this a good humored kind of joke?

I started some as well... I consider this a challenge!

I'm glad I took pictures for the last part of my story Yesterday. It's been raining all day, and looks like it might rain all week.

I would post the third part of my story, but I don't if I should since no one's commented of the second part yet. :sceptic:

Ok, I feel a bit bad now, I didn't mean my criticism of the tactic to bring bad blood. Like I have said, it was clever. And with Ecc reaffirming that there is more time to build free builds, then, I think this actually puts the ball back in the other guild's courts as a challenge.

I think what got a few of our blood pressures up was that we thought the deadline was in two days, and felt as we did not have enough time to respond. I hope this acts as a resurgence for all GoH.

Great MOCs Everyone! A veritable flood indeed. Shame we couldn't add a moc of our own, it will probably take a couple of weeks to finish the one we are working on...

Yeah, but now that we know the deadline isn't for a month... I bet there will be quite a few free-builds after Challenge VI!
