Whew, i know i'm dreadfully late for the party (what with challenge 5 announced already!), but i finally got my elemental destruction build finished - i'm in the process of taking photos, here is one of the best from today:

*snip*

:oh3::oh:*oh2* That is an awesome elemental! The landbridge, too, is pretty stinkin' epic. I love the destruction, the stormclouds in the background, the poor little guy who fell into the sea...I could go on, but I need to leave soon.

Waiting for some more even light tomorrow morning, i might try some artificial light sources for the underground section too. I'll post it up as a free build as soon as i'm done! :classic:

Wow Gabe- you never cease to amaze me with your builds, this one is looking fantastic! Can't wait to see the rest of the pictures!

I have to say I think this one would have been right up with my favorites for sure. Looks great and cant wait to see some more photos of it

That Moc is fantastic gabe. It would have got one of my votes for sure.

Mine as well. It's really too bad you weren't able to finish it in time! I love the guy in the water and the entire cliff face!

Phenomenal build, Gabe! Really outstanding. I love the stormclouds and the micro volcano on the horizon. Looking forward to more pics so I can examine the destruction in detail. And by the way, I don't think destroying the land-bridge will save Peregrinus; there are air and water elementals roaming the lands too, and they won't be thusly held back.

Those look great, especially the first one. Unfortuantly my tan bricks are kept in a constantly low supply as well. But you would probably do something like taht in stone (maybe a bit smaller) and accent it with tan? :sceptic:

I'm lucky; living reasonably near two LEGO stores has helped keep me well supplied with tan bricks from the PAB wall. Unfortunately there are a lot of AFOLs in the area, so LEGO sales at the store and other retailers tend to get cleaned out pretty quickly. Plus those darned AFOLs grab all the best collectible minifigures and leave me with ones like the skier and the banker!

(And that was my 500th post! :classic: )

Congratulations on your knighthood, Sir Kai!

I agree about Gabe's MOC. I would have definitely voted for it.

NM, I know the feeling. 2 Lego Stores and an Imagination center near enough to me that I can usually find some tan - but weirdly, it is always in 2x4s or 2x2s, where I really want 1x4s! Also, due to the large AFOL population here, every Wal-mart or TRU is picked over for minifigs the day the trucks come in. You always know now because the packages are all wrinkled up when you get there. I always hope that it was actually done by a town collector (yeah, fat chance!) but usually it means what I want is no longer there. Additionally, I am always late to the wal-mart sales party. I didn't get any POTC on sale when they started to liquidate them.

Oh well, maybe we will get a new type of desert set in 2013 to help build our tan collections.

We should do some swaps. Our stores occasionally have 1x4 tans and 1x2 tans (but more often 2x4 tans), and rarely have 2x2 tan or 2x3 tan. We also tend to get 1x4 LBG a lot. I was just there (San Mateo) yesterday to get some Series 8 CMFs, and there were only 2x4 tan bricks and 1x4 tan plates. They also had: 1x8 white tiles, 2x2 red tiles, 1x1 trans-red round bricks, clear cheese slopes, clear 1x2 plates, clear 1x2 bricks, red and white little flowers, and the usual assortment of 2x4s and other stuff I can't remember. The other store is Santa Clara; last week I updated some of its Brickbuildr inventory with what I could remember. Let me know if you're interested in anything, and/or tell me what to keep an eye out for.

As for Wal-mart, I live near the world's worst Wal-mart when it comes to LEGO sales. While everyone else is picking up dozens of Black Pearls at 70% off, I'm looking at an ancient Scorpion Pyramid at full price, wondering if they're ever going to put it on clearance. I've pretty much given up all hope. Instead, I just try to stop by random, rural Walmarts when I'm out of town.

Well, you guys are blessed to hve a LEGO store with a PAB wall near you at all; everything here is twice as expensive and no PAB!

Most of my tan has come from the city farm set and Indiana Jones motorcycle chase sets (yeah, not much!).

Anyway, are there any famous Kaliphlin places (like, say, a famous natural landmark - other than the chasm/mountains/volcanoes on the map - or an architecture MOC) that I could make a miniature model of for the gallery of one of my University MOCs?

Posted

Kai NRG, where are you? :) What country?

Chile, SA (although that's not where I'm "from"). I am located near one of the few TLG stores here, but almost all the products are twice as expensive and no PAB. :cry_sad:

One of the TRU's within driving distance is like that... tons of PoP and PQ stuff, never on sale, always TRU markup prices.

We may have to do a swap, I would be interested in both those tans for my 5th challenge entry. Basically I need a lot of hefty tan. and I have never found 1x4 plates before. Those white tiles would be useful too. I will have to make a long trip to my stores. They are both in Dallas, I live in Fort Worth about an hour from the nearest one, but I do teach in Dallas 2 days a week, so maybe if I go really early I can get out there this week and check them out. I will let you know what we have.

Yes, Bricklink is a good solution. And I do have a friend in the US who ships me LEGOs, so I'm not doing too bad.

Marmot! You are right near me. I am in the south bay and visit those two Lego stores too. San Jose store is generally better for selection but sells out so quickly. Sorry I didnt leave you any fun minifigures, lol. Though the TRUs seem to be selling them for $3.19 which isnt too bad. I feel your pain with Walmart sales. I tried their app and it was a disaster, the inventory not matching the in store stock. The only thing I found this time around were some Heroica waldurk for $7 at the Albrae store. There were at least four still there a few days ago, some nathuz, and a pod racer but it wasn't down fifty percent yet. I was there for Friends, but oh we'll no joy. And yes there are many AFOLs around here, and lots of dealers >:( too.

Thanks peeps for your kind words! I've finally gotten through all the pics and it's up now in it's own topic: Click here for the mayhem!

Everytime i hear ppl talking about PaB and their local Lego store, i cry tears of sadness into my tea... Australia has no Lego store at all, not one single one! :cry_sad: Thank goodness for BL, eh? Also, if anyone is looking for a perfect Kaliphlin parts pack, all i can say is: you need a GE, stat. Plenty of tan and light bley, PoP half arches in tan and white, dark tan 1x2 plates, dark blue tiles, sweet trans green goblets and even flags in Kaliphlin colours! It's made for us!

It's darn expensive, but worth every cent.

I don't think anyone has claimed that yet. I'll put it on the map for you. You're a fairly prolific builder, so I expect there will be a good Adskhan MOC coming soon!

Here's a revision of the overall map btw. Not much has changed, just a few more labels, and I'm trying to find a more readable font for the town names.

Map of Kaliphlin

That's an amazing map, seriously! I just like to know where the borders of your guild lay. Sorry for the noobish question default_blush.gif

I may join you on the future...I always thought that Kaliphlin is the best, but I really respect that you have put a lot of effort in the wiki...

Yes, come join us! We are the the most awesome guild, also the most varied as far as terrain and climate goes. :classic: As for your question, our northern border runs across the top of the Wither woods in the west to just above the Goolag archipelago in the east. (Every other border is the coast, so that takes care of itself really!)

Thakns for the info!

Now, If I may ask another thing, take a look on these photos, they are from some Greek islands, would you considered this type of architecture to be "Kaliphlin"? I know, it's too much white (and a bit of blue) but the ground can be tan...

And which places/cities would you consider to be, I know that Spice Islands are almost jungle, so that wont do...but it can be just a city...Ios-Island-Greece-Photos-Pictures-65457.jpgSANTORINI%202_1.jpg

A what?

All those pics look great and could certainly fit very well into Kaliphlin, not everything has to be tan! Seriously, we have a lot of Mediterranian climate along the coast, just pick a place and set up your own little town if you like.

Actually I find San Mateo to be a bit better. The Valley Fair/San Jose/Santa Clara store is always so crowded. Plus they rarely will look in the back for additional PAB inventory for me, and if they do, it's a cursory glance followed by "Nope, we don't have any of those." In San Mateo they'll often wheel out a cart with all the PAB boxes stacked on them so you can look through the inventory! I'll let you know if I stumble across any good Walmart/Target deals. I did buy a few Naboo Starfighter Planet and Endor Planet AT-ST sets for $5 at the Mt View Wally a week or so ago. They had those two on sale but the other SW Planet sets were full price.

Do you go to Bricks by the Bay? I haven't been, but talked to some people who really enjoyed it last March, so I'm planning on attending this year.

Yes, I've been eyeing the Grand Emporium for a while now. It never seems to go on sale, even on Amazon. (Although even at full price, the price per piece is pretty good) Was thinking about buying it before Amazon starts charging California sales tax on Sept 15; might still pull the trigger on it. Or wait for it to go on sale?

As Gabe says. Our border is probably the most amorphous, being lost in the untracked wastes of the deserts and the deepest glades of the Wither Woods... That said, it is generally accepted run through the Wither Woods (about where the "The" is on the map), then roughly due east until it hits the Great Escarpment, then northeast along the bottom of the escarpment to the Rakath Mountains, and then roughly east again to the sea. Although if you want to stake a claim and push the borders out a bit, I'm sure that can be arranged.

Agreed. The southern coast from Berigora to Stone Town has a Mediterranean climate (except for the bit around the Akhenaten Delta). The coast from Hawkshead (across from Stone Town) to Barqa is thought to be a bit more jungly, but could support this architecture too. A lot of the coast (and Gorr) is pretty much open for someone to come along and build and develop a story. (Heck, so is most of the interior too)

I hope someone builds in that style, it is beautiful. I often build in white and tan. Although I just realized by "often" I mean only 2/3 of my major MOCs. I need to get to building.

Good to hear we may have another recruit soon. Although, for the most part we have kept the core people throughout.
