Hmm, I think I already forgot putting the guild colours in a MOC...

Does a specific soldier counts as well???

Anyway, those Barbarians at the other Guilds... They don't know what real food & drinks have to taste like...

As a participant in both GoH and LCC: GoH seems to have fewer rules and the ability to have some off topic banter is great, the point system in GoH also seems much fairer and pushes for better builds not more builds, not to mention more contests with prizes, and the feedback from challenges is extremely helpful; LCC has guilds (way different than these) that are pretty neat, though I've yet to build anything for them.

I build for GoH more, but still try and enter most of the contests in LCC, there's several good builders there that don't participate in GoH so that's also where I get to interact with them.

Also CC was the first LEGO forum I ever found and what got me into castle MOCing so I try and be active there :classic:

Looks great NM!

Here is a teaser for my Challenge VI (first build):

As you can probably tell, Kaflar is a big character for my next few builds (though he won't be standing so alone there, just for the teaser!).

And Ska, here is my character sent to go to the coordinates at the end of your letter:

(He's actually not Kaliphlinian, but I gave him the colors anyways...)

Edit: And SK's post just reminded me, it's fine if he dies...

Cool, good to see the league of heroes coming together... I should be able to very nearly replicate everyone's so far... Although I am having a hard time getting the Zurg armor for Masa's I thought I had one, but I guess not. Kai, what is that head from?

It's the cmf guitarist/Punk.

Francis Hawk:

The second in command of the Tolswick Rangers, Hawk is skilled with both a bow and a sword. He is Fred Thornton, the now Lord of Tolswick's, most trusted adviser and taught him how to be stealthy.

It is alright to kill him, though he will be missed. God, Tolswick is really dyeing out at the moment.

I knew it looked familiar, I do have one of those MFs somewhere...

On another note, voting for the "Off to War" mini- challenge has gone up. please hop over there and vote for who will receive our title as the guild's "Defender of the Weak"

So that's what all the advertising was for! I will never buy them. Tolswick oak windows forever! Well now I will have to build a MOC for them. But first I have to build the other hundreds of builds I have planned.

Received $200 worth of bricks from Plastic Bricks Direct the other day, so I have to unpack them and count them. Start of sixth challenge builds delayed. Have the high-level story pretty much figured out. I think it's a good story, but am struggling with how to make innovative builds out of it. Maybe I should just start building and see what happens.

Do you all count the bricks in your BrickLink orders to make sure you received everything you ordered, or do you just put them in your bins right away? I always count them, because I get shorted a few bricks or get extra bricks on about 2/3 of my BL orders.

I sometimes count, but in honest, when I BL, i get bulk orders... 2500 pieces are on their way right now. I don't have the time to do much more than eye them. I really need to get a better sorting system though! Mini figs are another story... I count those for sure.

Yeah, this one is a little over 2000 pieces too. I'm thinking about just eyeballing some of the less important lots, but some lots I definitely want to review to make sure I've got them all. What store did you purchase the 2500 piece order from?

My sorting system is pretty basic: I use a bunch of Snapware Snap 'N Stack plastic bins, in two sizes (6x9" and 10x14" I think), plus I have a few larger bins. I sort by part type, not by color. I think it's easier to find a color in a bin of similar parts than to find a type of part in a bin of similar color. The bins are organized pretty much like: minifigures, weapons & shields, minifig headgear, >=2x4 bricks, 2x4>bricks>1x3, 1x3>= bricks, <1x4 tiles, 1x4 tiles, >1x4 tiles, 1x1 round plates, 1x4 >= plates, 2x4 >= plates, 1x and 2x plates that are longer than 4, bigger plates, slopes <= 2x2, slopes & wedges > 2x2 but not too big, really big slopes and wedges, inverted slopes, arches & curved pieces, log bricks & panels, hinges, modified bricks, animals, plants & trees, windows & doors, technic liftarms, technic bricks, random technic parts, vehicle-related, and large, medium, and small miscellaneous bins. I'm sure I'm missing stuff; you get the idea. Plus I have two plastic bins that are divided up into little compartments for small things like 1x1 tiles, 1x1 square plates, cheese slopes, bushings, technic pins, minifig 'utensils' (basically anything a minifig holds in their hand), etc... It seems to work fairly well -- my six year-old son actually knows pretty much where everything is!

How does everyone else keep organized? And approximately how big is your collection? That will help people judge whether the system would work for them. Mine is about 60,000 according to BaseBrick. You'd think with that many bricks that I wouldn't need to buy any more (I thought that when I had 20,000)! You'd also think that I could produce better MOCs!

You know, I have always tried to sort by color, but your system makes a lot of sense if one is not separating by part and color, it is probably much easier to do by part.

I have no idea how big this collection is, I am still pretty sure it is not as big as my original collection that is in storage back in PA -- but it is getting there. I have to be approaching 50k pieces, not counting figs.

I really don't have a clue how many pieces I have. Some of it was inherited from my older brothers, other from sets I got growing up, and recently BL orders and PaB cups.

I'll take some pics later today showing how I store it. Basically each color has its own bin, sometimes two colors to a bin :classic:

I keep my pieces stored in 4 ways.

lego_collection_4.jpg

I use Sterilite bins for all of my bulk or larger pieces (All bricks, all plates greater than 1x2, all animals, foliage, most of my slopes, etc.) About half of these bins are also devoted to complete Star Wars sets that I have in storage (The ones in the picture are currently in the bins instead)

lego_collection_3.jpg

For smaller pieces, I have always used tool drawers. I separate by type instead of color, because I find it a lot easier to pick out the colors when I'm searching. (Sorry it's a mess right now. I'm running a little low on space, and need to pick up a few more containers.)

lego_collection_1.jpg

Within the last few years, I've been switching over to the smaller tackle boxes, because they are more portable, and you can change the size of the compartments. Menards has had them as low as $5 on sale, but they are usually about $8-$10 during fishing season. I LOVE these things.

lego_collection_2.jpg

For my minifig pieces (Torsos, heads, weapons, accessories) I have two large tackle boxes. One is for Castle, and one is for Star Wars. It's nice to have everything in one piece, and I usually don't need the minifigure pieces when I building the MOC itself.

Behind these, you can see a white container on the right. This is where I store my assembled minifigs. I keep them on 48x48 plates, which fit nicely into them, and I can stack about 4 plates per container.

I have no idea how many pieces I have. I only check BL orders for smaller ones or if I need a specific number of pieces for a build - and definitely with minifigs.

I'm not exactly sure how many pieces I have, but probably around 10K. I sort by color for larger pieces and plates, so I have about 14 peanut butter jars, two for most colors. I have too much red, white, light tan, black and grey (both light and dark, I store them together) though, so red, white, and tan are divided in three groups with one in a larger bucket. Black and grey get their own larger buckets... and then I have the huge container where I used to store all my LEGO, with a few left over pieces (white, grey, and black) I either have plenty of or never found a use for. I sort smaller pieces in a tackle box similar to some of rogueang's, or in the tops of all those peanut butter jars... though somehow I ended up with more tops than bottoms! :look: And minifigure stuff goes in a smaller tackle box... and a variety of miscellaneous containers... though recently it's all started to overflow... (and I'm never sure if that's good or bad!)

I have a mix of things. I use sorting boxes (craft/tool/fishing/pill), crayon/marker boxes (bulk type), a couple different baby wipe containers (more useful than you'd think), a few advent set trays, some standard cardboard boxes, two large Sterilite boxes, some TLG containers (bulk brick, bionicle, x-pod and creator), and many plastic Ziploc-type bags. I'm probably forgetting a few, but that covers most of them.

Thanks. Will keep an eye out for them, if they're any good. In general, I've found that almost all BrickLink stores I've bought from have been great; I've had very few problems with any of them.

You guys are producing some great builds with relatively small collections! Just goes to show that the number of bricks doesn't matter; it's what you do with them. I realized that probably about 15,000 of my bricks are in unopened sets up in the attic that I bought as future presents for the kids.

I've thought about these tool drawers, but wondered if it would be a pain to always be opening and closing them. One reason I like the bins is that when we've got a build going, we can just lay out all the bins and open them all up, and just pick out what we need -- really easy access. I like the tackle boxes -- I have two craft cases that are like that, where you can move around the dividers, but lids are poorly made and break; I think a good tackle box would be more solidly made probably.

Thanks, - sometimes I do wonder what I could do with more bricks...

What is the mini contest?

Do you mean the mini-Kaliphlin Challenge? That was to help generate free-builds, but it's over now, in fact you can vote. Or is there something else you were thinking of?
