If you can't beat them, copy them, right :look::wink: (and who said that, I wonder  ).

Having a collective run things is pretty cool, probably the major handicap with that is that there's no specific person to run, say, title challenges (not that that seems to really help, in fact I wonder why having an active guild leader helps?).

Main advantage of an active guild leader is higher morale. Our guild self maintains its morale extremely well but I still think that it would be good to have an official "leader" that is always around to help maintain interest in guild affairs. The old idea of the king visiting all the lands that never really took off may have been to ambitious for all the guilds but I think would work fine within a guild setting and make every member feel included.

I got my new camera today! I've been living on a 7 year old Kodak Easy Share for my entire AFOL life of 2 years...I can't afford a really nice DSLR right now(unless I give up totally on buying Lego), so after doing some research I got a 16 MP Bridge camera with 15x Optical Zoom for a good deal. It's a GE PowerPro X500. This should be a huge improvement over what I have been taking pics with. I have a build going that I hope to wrap up soon so I can test it out!

It would be nice to have an "insider," but then again, I am not sure how one becomes an insider! So getting one might be hard.

Well I decided to drive back from PA to texas in a rented minivan to haul my old collection to unite with my main collection... In preparation, I have been trying to presort my old collection.. why oh why did I mix so many megablocks in there????

I realize I have too much... and a lot of it is older that I just won't use in MOCing... So I am trying to figure out how to sell the "back end" of my collection, without selling stuff I may need in the future. I think I might unload some of my pirates, since I really don't build in that theme too often any more.

On a final note, if you have k-marts around you still, the Uraki attack is 11(!) dollars. Go figure I am trying to sort out some of the collection to leave in PA, and I buy a bunch more...

The Kmart near me only had them at 25$ :cry_sad:

Glad to hear you'll be able to use your old collection soon :classic:

Mine said 25 also, but I took it to the scanner and it rang up at 11 dollars. There was nothing advertised that it would do so.

You try any other sets? I'm going to have to check my Kmart out.

And the prices you guys got there in the USA as well

actually this is a rather sad story, the set still sells at 35 € at most place I know ...

That's weird. Well I guess Kmart's weird too.

You might have just got lucky. Did it work more than once? I'm very curious now.

So I planned to build some kind of vessel on which the slaves will be sold in my city.

Well, now I really wonder where the Nocturnus I will have to place the slaves as it is becoming a real seaworthy vessel :look:

Is it big enough to carry some giant horned creatures? (Triceratops) Masa now has begun utilizing them for Kaliphlin heavy cavalry. However we need some way to transport them to the Historica mainland.

Sadly my Kmart has the Uruk-Hai at $25, and I even brought it up front to check, but still $25. I think I'm going to check each week now though, since there have been sightings!

By European standards that is a fantastic price...the recommended Swedish retail price for 9471 Uruk Hai Army is around $75 (!!).

Fortunately, I was able to pick up a couple from the British Amazon store when they had it for sale for slightly less than £ 19 (= $ 30).

I think we will be able to transport 1 yes (maybe 2 if you can convince Admiral Bostoximus to put 1 in his room)

But I think he will be more a patrolling vessel in the Ghuba-Ya Biashara :classic:

That's pretty cool. I think that may have happened to me with other (non-LEGO) products (not necessarily in Kmart), but it's pretty rare...

Yes, I think you're right there. (Ignoring the ambitions 7/8ths of me,) it could be a good idea to wait until the Challenge VI vote and/or we see how the next "chapter" will be (perhaps we could have a temporary vice-leader in the meantime). Perhaps the best way to keep any leader from becoming "burnt out" would be by having a sort of rotating delegation?

I have twin exploratory ships still in the works. (i posted a wip a year ago I think) I'm trying to think how to design a barge craft to transport these huge creatures... Well maybe after my home base is finished. The base will be pretty much self sufficient but I forsee increased trade with Mpys Stedor for products we don't produce. Maybe have an order for some gold windows...

Awesome! :classic: Can't wait to see (finally) your homebase! :sweet:

I really do wonder what Dextrus Flagg has been up to. Comment wise it really helps to have an active guild leader. As Ageven seems to be becoming a lot more available than Dextrus, Masa has been thinking we Kaliphlins should appoint him as the standin Delegate of Kaliphlin.

:look:

Dextrus (aka. Si) voted yes on the active/intent to be active poll. And I do know he's quite busy with Brickworld & probably with the Sci-Fi forum. I'm not sure how active he's planning on being in the future and having him as guild leader has been pretty cool. Of course you're suggesting a vice-leader, I would be honored to have the position, though after October I might not be so available for a month or so. I will do my best to stay available as much as possible regardless though!

Having a collective run things is pretty cool, probably the major handicap with that is that there's no specific person to run, say, title challenges (not that that seems to really help, in fact I wonder why having an active guild leader helps?). Also, I would point out that I am hardly an insider! (Which does seem like it might be part of our problem, we don't have any (active) insiders other than Si.

And I'm sure that there are others who could do the job well, we could have a vice-leader election similar to Mitgardias, if desired.

:look:

Well in a nut shell - it's all of your faults - if the guild wasn't so good and fell apart at the slightest disappearance of leadership, I couldn't have stepped back... But for those that are truly interested:Don't forget I was just a citizen when GoH started, and had plenty of time to devote... since then I've been demoted to Regulator and further into a Mod, and am the only one over inSci-Fi forum.. And there were a few life changing events that took up considerable GOH time... First GoH itself, there is a lot insider stuff that does happen and that takes a bit of time, but we have some great people that slowly plow through it.. I was also cursed to compete in Iron Builder twice - which effectively occupied every waking moment for 4 months - from pre-sort to actual build month... then there was the "little" EB sci-fi month that blew up in my face that ate up another 2 months. ... and there's real life stuff to... my current position requires frequent travel...

IRONICALLY this all meant that I really did not devote as much time into GoH as I had originally envisioned - I never even got to build my sand castle. But now that things are wrapping up, I actually have time to actually partake, after the fact. Sad I know.

But I truly sorry I have disappointed so many - I really wanted to take the journey with you all side by side, and not on the sidelines...

So after Brickworld (why did I promise so many people so many things?) - I should have a bit more free time to start building stuff....

That being said if someone would want to be vice leader, or want to vote for a new leader to work with the 'insiders' I would be open to that

Dextrus needs an assistant to look after Kaliphlin affairs when he decides to visit the worlds of sci-fi. I think Dextrus is not about to lose his job  as he is somewhat or should I say a major folkhero in Kaliphlin. However his disappearance for months at a time without someone to officially look out for Kaliphlin interests is just bad governing. So upon considering those capable of handling the daily rigors of Guild correspondence I had nominated Kai. DaMaximus, NiceMarmot, and Skaforhire would be other possible candidates although NiceMarmot seems to have disappeared like Si-Mocs did and with DaMaximus as official relations with Avalonia would probably seriously decline :laugh:. Not sure if Skaforhire would want the position but he quite possibly might be the best candidate having been with EB for so long.

@SI:

Always nice to hear you

You've never really disappointed me as I saw Kaliphlin much more like a bunch of free cities and the biggest city (Petraea) as 'controlling organ' to maintain everything.

Like you said, we did a really great job ourself to keep the Guild together :classic:

But I will be more than happy to have you back building for GoH!

@Masa:

relations with Avalonia would probably decline? :look: if we support Nocturnus and they take over Avalonia, we don't have to care about that

Maybe I am indeed better not the Vice Leader, but more an officially important General with enough influence

Another candidate is maybe Robuko, but maybe he has somewhat the same disadvantage like me (very good relations with Nocturnus)

I don't know what happened to NM but probably he has a very busy month right now.

As Ska was here since the beginning, I would vote for him as well (and also because he has done an amazing good job in the Battle of Queenscross).

But then again, I am not sure if his characters are ready for that job (Paulos and Petera)...

We should do a voting (even make it open for other guilds members as our vice-leader has a diplomatic role as well) with candidates who made an official candidature (like Mitgardia is doing every now and then). Maybe we can even make a Parlement with different ministers... :look:

I'm in with the others...I don't want Dextrus removed from office, as I have liked the way the guild was running. But a vice leader is a very good idea. We have a lot of worthy folks, and I am good with any of them taking on some additional responsibilities!

So, I made it home with most of my old collection. For those of you in the USA and know what I am talking about, we got held up in Oklahoma during that horrible storm, dodged a tornado (we actually dodged one back in PA a few miles from my mom's place, right before I left too...), and made it back today. There is so much that I will be sorting the old collection for over a year I feel... haha. I also did not have room in the van for any of my ships (which were all shrink-wrapped and ready to go. My mom is going to UPS those to me I guess. Don't tell my fiance though, if she sees any more increase in the collection size I may be in trouble.

As for the big picture story idea, I will have more details next week when I get my head back on straight.

I know it got buried, but my proposed constitution for the project had this built in to keep people from burning out.

You did not disappoint anyone! I think we get jealous that you are out and about in the community a lot, however, I think we are all very happy with the guidance you have given us and when you do have spare time. I think you should remain leader as long as you want, but the vice leader who could get in on the inside action would help you administrate things and be a direct link to answering questions.

Agreed, Dextrus should remain the high lord and leader, historically that makes a lot of sense. As the high lords of Kaliphlin, we could vote in a "Overlord of the Council" that " runs" the guild in game as an assistant to Dextrus - like the PM elections in Mitgardia. As for the vice-leader of the guild and assistant to SI, the builder would not necessarily have to be the "in character" vice-leader of the guild.

I would do it if you guys want, but whoever does become a vice-leader, they really need to have access to the "inside" workings of GoH (in my opinion). Also, can the vice-leader participate in the new challenges? If not, I am probably a good candidate, since we wouldn't be losing a good builder by giving me up!!!! haha
