K.Kreations Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 K.Kreations pledging my allegience to the mighty kindom of Avalonia! Among many objectives I will make diplomatic missions to the elves and Attempt to establish a stronghold on one of the outermost islands of the Mistic Isles. Will be posting sig-fig soon.
Fred Daniel Yam Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 It fires arrows, we strive to be the latest of our era, a leaf covered arrow shooter is quite possible.
mattman Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 My Lord, I submit to you my latest creation ..... the never ending plains of Avalonia! Ok, so maybe not, it might just be me showing off my new display frame.... but.... there will be an Avalonian creation to fill it.... it'll be BIG! Matt
Andonii Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 My liege. I suggest that we offer an alliance to Mitgardia. The reason for this is obvious. We hate Nocturnus, they hate Nocturnus. Also, I am worried about our alliance with Kaliphlin. You made an allegiance with them my liege, but I have just seen one of their men offer an alliance to Nocturnus. I hope that you will be able to negotiate and remove this allegiance between Kaliphlin and Nocturnus. Andonii
Dr Rod Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 One of the other guilds has already fielded primitive cannon. We should probably clarify, how advanced is gunpowder technology at this time? I'm going to assume this is around the 14th or 15th century, when early gunpowder weapons are present, but not advanced enough to reliably replace swords, pikes, bows, and various types of catapults. Well Dr Rod was made the stuff, handy having those sulphur mines here in Nocturnus ;) I think it is very primitive though and no-one would be casting large cannons easily... DrRod
Captain Blackmoor Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 My watchtower has a cannon, and some of my men have long fuse rifles. The Avalonia Trading Company is able to import various goods from lands unknown. These goods include also gunpowder. Yet the gunpowder is not to be trusted, accidents happen regulary. The powder simply doesn't work or it explodes with far too much power. Therefore the Avalonia Trading Company garisson is still armed with swords and axes as well... 14-15th century for me. It was the age when gunpowder was imported into Europe. Yet the munition was made from stone.
ZCerberus Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Meet Dekster, also know as the Dark Passenger of Avalonia, one of Avalonia's executioners. After a confirmation of their unforgivable crimes, he himself hunts down his victims. Say goodbye to your life when you happen to end up on his table. With this creation I apply for the Lord High Executioner title. Love it!! What does he keep as souvenirs? I don't think slides existed yet! I'm still a little sad about the death of his wench Rita though, she was a good looking handmaiden.
Wardancer Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Love it!! What does he keep as souvenirs? I don't think slides existed yet! I'm still a little sad about the death of his wench Rita though, she was a good looking handmaiden. I agree with Zceberus! I also love the homage to Dexter, especially the hair colour and the box of special tools.
Andonii Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 (edited) I am going to put champion of Avalonia in my signature, even though our mighty leader hasn't put it on the first page yet, cause I was gonna wait but it's been ages . Also pics of Lord High Executioner coming very soon. Edited November 20, 2011 by Andonii
Andonii Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 14-15th century for me. It was the age when gunpowder was imported into Europe. Yet the munition was made from stone. Who brought guns into this anyway?
Captain Blackmoor Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I have no idea, but as this is about the middle ages (about the years 1000-1500) I think guns should defenitely be in here as they marked the beginning of the end of this fantastic age. The Avalonia Trading Company has a small ammount of soldiers carrying fuse barrel guns. The ATC also discovered hidden secrets about cannons and we have forged one ourselves. Primitive, but decent, and defenitely something to not rely on in battle. As we have to improve these brand-new techniques first. The Avalonia Trading Company has built a watchtower featuring this fearsome cannon.
Derfel Cadarn Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 Greetings Guildsmen! Sorry I have been a bit busy these last few days, but i will update all new titles. As for guns and cannons, I think primitive cannons are allowed, however, you have to remember this is set in a medieva/caste/fantasy setting and we don't want it getting to out of hand, as beore you know it there will be spearmen with AK47'S and the cavalry will be riding in tanks So lets not forget, this is about swords and sorcery rather then guns and ammo. Things are looking good, there has been some great creations from our guild and we have built more than the others. However, Mitgardia have started churning out some great towers, so we need to keep up our strong builds. Well done to everyone who have recently completed some tasks. Matn's Executioner was particularly good and shows you don't have to build big to make a great scene. As for our alliances, we have no choice. The High King decrees that all lands must be at peace. Even though we do not get on well with Nocturnia, we have our orders to follow. The High King has the final say. Kaliphiln are doing just the same, they don't want to be allied to Nocturnia anymore than we do, but the High King insists on peace, so the other lands are following orders. Unfortunately I fear peace will not last. As during this uneasy peace, the Drow and other dark forces will be plotting our destruction. However, mighty Avalonia will be ready for anything, always have always will. There will be some announcements coming up soon, as well as some info on the title prizes. Maybe a special Xmas task with a prize as well. We'll see

The Bricdocton Guild of Engineers is more than happy to supply its Avalonian allies with a supply of reliable, heavy-hitting trebuchets. Mobile onagers and long-ranged, light-weight mangonels to come.
timura Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Hand cannons are used since 1100s in asia and since 1300 in europe. Cosidering the fantasy wargames like Warhammer fantasy it is very likely to have primitive gunpower weapons in our armies. They would be as powerful as crossbows with less acurate aiming capability and good against cavaliry/horsemen beacause their sound scares the animals.

Agreed, though at this time, in the realm of siege engines, the trebuchet still reigns supreme. It'll reliably lob shots of up to 300 pounds into or over walls, and it uses common materials. Gunpowder makes a good filler for exploding trebuchet shot, though.
Fred Daniel Yam Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Sorry for correcting you, Guild leader, but it seems you have missed my Champion of Avalonia Entry.
ZCerberus Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 M'lord, your request to miniaturize the newly invented spy glass has proved unsuccessful. Our engineers are simply not capable of making the lenses any smaller. I have reassigned all my loyal engineers to create siege weapons should this fragile peace not last. I think we have a solution for the lava moat problem that plagued our ancestors. Prototypes of all shall be finalized soon.
Andonii Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 May I present to you, Lord high Executioner, Bawain (yes I did just combine Balin and Gawain) Once in the military, an officer of high rank. He was put in jail for war crimes. His time in jail drove him mad. He amputated his own leg. I met him and realized his potential. Death does not come easily, and would be a privalage, for those in his torture Chamber. I came down to see how he was doing, and he was just finishing up with a Nocturnian (yes, I really do have it in for the Nocturnians). I hope that this is good enough to earn me the title of Lord High Executioner.
MikeyB Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) My leige, Arlindus of Circardia, pledge my company, the Phoenix Guard to Avalonia Guild. Arlindus is the son of Orthus, a great woodsman who fled his homeland decades ago after trouble with the law. Orthus, and a group of companions, settled near the south coast of the Enchanted Forest. The group quickly banded together for protection against outlaw bands and ill creatures of the Forest. Overtime the group grew, began families and other wayward souls settled in the area. Circardia became the center of trade between many of the Elven clans and Humans in the southern Enchanted Forest and a safe haven for travelers. Orthus began the Phoenix Guard for those that wanted a new start. When one joins the Phoenix Guard, their past is forgot and they assume a new name. Many of the sons and daughters of the initial settlers are now members of the Guard as well. After finishing the inital training, and individual wishing to graduate the Phoenix Guard must survive 30 days in the wilds of the Enchanted Forest with only the clothes on their back and a dagger. Once complete, loyalty to the Guard and Circadia is unwavering. The Phoenix Guard learned many skills from the Elven clans over the years and is known for its woodlore, tracking, as well as archery and swordsmanship. Arlindus' father retired and passed command of Circardia and the Phoenix Guard to his son years ago. Orthus now acts as a ambassador between Circardia and elven clans as Arlindus protects the lands around Circardia. Photos for Arlindus and the Phoenix Guard will be posted soon. News from Circardia Finally I present Arlindus, Captain of Circardia and the Phoenix Guard as he returns from deep in the Enchanted Forest and the Phoenix Guard. Also a WIP, the Tower of Circardia. It overlooks the town of Circardia and the main trade route into the Enchanted Forest. This is my first MOC and I would appreciate any C&C and feedback Edited November 22, 2011 by MikeyB
ZCerberus Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 M'lord, we have begun test firing a new trebuchet design. It is not a finalized version as we have yet to attach a proper sling. Thoughts from our royal court would be much appreciated. We also continue work on other siege weapons including ballistas, mantlets, an elevated command platform and a counter weighted tonnelon.
de Gothia Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) WOW ZCerberus! That trebuchet is awesome! What a monster!!!! Does it work? Looks like it does! I have no critism att all! Great work! Edit: You have to post this beuty on the historic forum when she is done!! Edited November 22, 2011 by de Gothia
ZCerberus Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 Does it work? Looks like it does! I think it WOULD work if the counterweight were heavier. The counterweight is heavy enough to keep tension on the string and pull the firing arm up if the string has a lot of slack, but it it not heavy enough to unroll the string when the firing arm is moved into place (when the "hamster wheels" roll the string on the spindle). I suppose if I made the counterweight heavy enough to work in full with the way I built this, the counterweight would probably snap off. Any thoughts on a good way to make a sling?

ZCerberus Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) Also a WIP, the Tower of Circardia. It overlooks the town of Circardia and the main trade route into the Enchanted Forest. This is my first MOC and I would appreciate any C&C and feedback I think this is very good for a first MOC. The top of the tower kind of gives me a Lord of the Rings vibe (it reminds me of the Isengard or Mordor tower). It looks like you also did a nice job with the rocks and dirt path here. I think the path and railing that lead up to the tower could use some more attention as could the trees. The trees seem kinda dead since there is so little foilage on them and the trunk on the big tree doesn't look right with the perfectly round bricks. Our leader, Derfel Cadarn, made a guide on the history forums here that shows several tree techniques that you may be able to employ to enhance them. Overall I think you have caught the right spirit of our guild, with a little more seasoning you will have it down! As to the sling, would a neck peice from a cape work somehow? Or maybe just use the new bucket peice? The new bucket would certainly be easy, but I don't think it woudl be large enough to be an effective sling. The cape gives me a little bit of an idea though... I think I have several of these that might work. Not sure if it would work though. Edited November 22, 2011 by ZCerberus
