NiceMarmot Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Just wondered: Who else is tearing down MOC-es after making photos? Do you tear them all down, or do you keep some? is there somebody who keeps them all? Hmm, interesting range of responses. I'm in the middle, like most people here, I keep some stuff and tear down the rest. I've gotten a lot more ordinary bricks from PAB cups over the past year, so I don't need to tear down old MOCs as much to get some LBG 2x4s or something, but I do find I need to reuse some of the more unusual parts from them. Usually I keep stuff because my son wants to play with it. Then after a while, he 'customizes' it so much, and I need to borrow a piece here and there from it, and at that point it doesn't really look like the original MOC anymore, so I just tear it down and (ugh) sort it. After I finish challenge 3, I'll tear down my (huge) embassy MOC; not looking forward to sorting that one (over 5000 bricks).
Doornroosje Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 @ZCerberus: Wow this really looks great ! My character (Kariny Rhiannon, Green Rider) even got a shield with white unicorn on it ! Quite a collection of unique characters we have in Avalonia:classic: Well, I am sorry I haven't been active lately. Live got a little bit in the way, with switching jobs and buying a house... (in a year from now the house will be ready and I will have a big LEGO room!!!! ) I have been checking the Avalonia thread regularly, but I have not been building. Good news is that I already have a few ideas for new Avalonian projects! A few weeks ago I bought the Friends café and it inspired me to do something with pies and cakes!!!.I am thinking of building a nice bakery for Arod Mearas and the owner of the bakery will also go once a week to the big market in Albion to sell her cakes and famous apple pies, so I will also build a scene at the market (hope to start on the latter this weekend!). I have also seen some great builds or WIP for the 3rd challenge! Keep up the good work everybody !!!
Maxim I Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 @Zc: Nice group picture ! But to be honest, I only can name a few of them, even I am almost every day active in this forum (mostly checking posts)... @Zach Mills: The challenges I tear down after a month or so. Also everything I first made for my city (market, tower, ...) as I changed the plans There are 5 buildings atm who are complete: - Mpya Stedor Palace - Mpya Stedor Wall - Nohr Mahn's Embassy => (removed the Mitgardian look so it can fit the city of Mpya Stedor) - The 2 Lego Medieval Market buildings (just because I don't really see how I can improve them...) - The PoP set with the market (something with Dagger in the name) => I will adapt this building normally Challenge 3 will be modified into an outpost (as I still haven't done Challenge 1 and as it fits perfect into some of my masterplans). Probably I will keep it complet as I use all the bricks in it I don't use for my city About your plans (7x4 48x48): I am really looking forward to see it somewhere in the future! My city will be 4x4 48x48 or something like that
Legonardo Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I don't keep my builds intact, my parts collection is far to small for that! usually by the time i have the build on EB it is already a pile of parts. =Legonardo=
Rogue Angel Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 I forgot about my Star Wars sets. I keep all of my star wars sets together unless a better version comes out, or I just bought them for the figs or they were on clearance.
Tazmaniac Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Just wondered: Who else is tearing down MOC-es after making photos? Do you tear them all down, or do you keep some? is there somebody who keeps them all? I am curious especially in case of those builders who put out big and awesome stuff. Derfel Cadarn, zcerberus, Sirens (just to name a few, without making a complete list here)? What about you? Nothing stays built at my place, once I've got the shots I need it gets pulled down, sometimes they don't even make it to the photo shoot before I'm over them and break them down.
Zach Mills Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I tend to keep builds in-tact, until I need to salvage parts for a different build for them, excluding things I want to use again. Also, it seems that since I made that post about inactive members yesterday, it would seem that a number of inactive people have made a reappearance. Consider my spirits lifted! Finally, I want to ask everyone something. I have a build ready to photograph for Challenge III, but to be quite honest, I'm not particularly proud of it. Do you think I should bother posting it? It's only about 30x30, and has little more content on it than the teaser I posted about a month ago.

Is is anything you could change in your moc that would make it better? You could always post a pic and take some tips how to make it better.

And I like to pride myself as being a reasonable storyteller, but I honestly can't come up with an angle for this build. I would try and add to it, but with the deadline being tomorrow, and my attention being on a different build, I don't think it is work the effort.

My build is only 32x32 so size isn't everything. Plus one of the main reason for the guild is to help one another improve their skills and by posting, you will get some good feedback to improve your future builds.. I know my build isn't going to win, but I am going to post it shortly mainly because I tried some new (for me) stuff and like I said each build will earn some points for our guild! I say post it up! Zach Mills Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 The feedback from you guys would definitely be helpful, so I guess I'll post it.
MikeyB Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 my story is rather long so i have divided it up into two parts, Chapters 1 and 2 and Chapter 3 below is a link for the first two chapters. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69548

Niku Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Hi guys was wondering when exactly the challenge entries end? I am currently finishing building it, but sunlight has gone from here, and I need it for better pictures, here is still 11 of May, not 12 yet. So the deadline is 12 of May at 11:59 pm right? I am crossing fingers. By the way there are so many excellent entries I must also resist to watch them, just like rogueang.
Captain BeerBeard Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I just picked up lotr helm' deep, orc army and Gandalf! Should I review'em?
Niku Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I just picked up lotr helm' deep, orc army and Gandalf! Should I review'em? If you do so.That would be great¡
Captain BeerBeard Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 If you do so. That would be great¡ Which should I do first?
Zach Mills Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Which should I do first? My vote goes to Helms Deep.
MikeyB Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I just picked up lotr helm' deep, orc army and Gandalf! Should I review'em? where you find them?
NiceMarmot Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 I just picked up lotr helm' deep, orc army and Gandalf! Should I review'em? They're out already? Shows how clueless I am. That's awesome. My bank account will be suffering! I think you should review the Orc Army set first. Helms Deep is really big and will take too long to build and review. And Gandalfs set is kinda small. Plus Orc Army might be of particular interest to all the historical / fantasy army builders in GoH and historical themes forums.
Captain BeerBeard Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Gandalf Arrives review is up in the historic forum.
purpleparadox Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 (edited) Gandalf Arrives review is up in the historic forum. That has to do with Avalonia? EDIT: Just read the previous page...many apologies. I take it back, as it was related to the discussion. Sorry again! Edited May 12, 2012 by purpleparadox
Zach Mills Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 challenge 3 is over. It's May 12th. Waitwut? I thought we were still able to enter on the 12th?
Captain BeerBeard Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Waitwut? I thought we were still able to enter on the 12th? There is an exact hour when no entry is valid. Am I wrong?
