C.J.Cutrone9 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 My word, I have not been active have I? Ah well.... It is mainly my lack of pieces and our computers semi-new Internet blocker. I'd love to participate in challenge 4, but I do not do Magic things. So count me out. I will however look for some spare parts with which to build a free build! I hope I can pull off a good one as most of the forest/castle parts are being used in a long term (BF AL) WIP.
Doornroosje Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Hey all, I haven't been around for a while but I am back! Unfortunately I won't be participating in challenge 4 (elemental mayhem just nog my thing...), but I have plenty of ideas left that still need to be realized... Right now I am enjoying three weeks of holidays befor my new job starts and the weather isn't that great, that means lots of LEGO building time hopefully. Well I finally finished my Market (Market day at the village of Arod Mearas) yesterday. Here is a sneak preview... I will try to make a separate thread for it tomorrow, so you just have to wait a bit more for more pictures with the details...

ZCerberus Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 (elemental mayhem just nog my thing...) I think it NOT being your thing is the best reason to try. I have never really done an action scene or made a LEGO monster, trying it out could improve my skills in those areas and help me become a better MOCer all around! The market looks nice! I hope to see some close-ups of all those stalls soon! An A.T.C. trade vessel for the Commerce Challenge will be finished soon. I have invented a brand new hull technique and I can't wait to post the results! *snip* I think Captain Green Hair may have made a Dutch Yacht a while back with a design like that. I would love to see how yours stacks up!! Check out Greeny's Yacht...
Captain Blackmoor Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Ah yeah the good Captain's fine vessel. Although mine has a different design, the typical Dutch (shallow water) elements are present. Greenhair's Yacht is used for transport of the rich people and recreational business. The A.T.C. trade ship will have a wide deck and large hold to transport goodies all over Avalonia. It should be up soon! Some finetuning and sails.
C.J.Cutrone9 Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Ok, got my now much smaller army selection of figures. I hope to make it much bigger. With more horses and Birds of Prey. These will be used in my Free-Build BTW. Sorry for the Blurry pictures, I am going to have to get a better camera soon, which stinks cause this one cost about $200... I think I got ripped... My phone has better quality... Above is the group shot. This, is a Bird of Prey. Bred in Edaho this species of Birds is quick, but blind; used for air to ground attacks, the "pilot" must master his training before being able to ride a Bird of Prey into Battle. Yes, it can stand without a stand, that is its leg. That sounded weird anyway, time to go build!

My phone has better quality... Looks more like "noise" than blur. If I were to guess, I would say your ISO is set pretty high, drop it to 200 or so. Then add more light. I would say find a good spot outside in the shade, set up your back ground and try that. Might save you some money! I really like the Bird of Prey, look forward to seeing it more!
Zach Mills Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Neither of you may have been active, but you have both certainly been productive. Those builds are awesome!

I agree, when i first got my cam the iso was real high and all my photos where grainy. also try to use a light colored backdrop, that helps.

I have never really done an action scene or made a LEGO monster, trying it out could improve my skills in those areas and help me become a better MOCer all around! You are quite right! However I am still not that long into MOCing (started two years ago with modular town houses, and for GoH is started my first medieval builds) and every new GoH build is a new challenge for me and a chance to improve my skills. Moreover I have to balance my lego time with all my other hobby's and sports activities and have to make choices in what to build and I choose to focus my leftover building time this summer on at least a build for the Prince of the Forest title and maybe my Albion build (Green Riders Headquarters). @Captain Blackmoor, the design of that vessel looks great, can't wait to see the finished build!
timura Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) Here are some WIP pictures for the elemental challange. What do you think? Here is the elemental: Here is the micro island: The scene will be from an area near the mystic islands.. Edited July 10, 2012 by timura
Captain Settle Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 (edited) That monster looks huge and the face is good. I like the town and the boat(that is a boat isn't it?) Edited July 10, 2012 by Captain Settle
timura Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 That monster looks huge and the face is good. I like the town and the boat(that is a boat isn't it?) Yes it is same sort of sailing ship
ZCerberus Posted July 10, 2012 Posted July 10, 2012 Here are some WIP pictures for the elemental challange. What do you think? *snip* I think the face is nice, though it could look "meaner" somehow. I like the size and scale and how it looks like you are designing him to come out of the water. He is a little "blocky" though. Try some slopes, SNOT and/or textured pieces to break up the stright sections a bit! A very nice start. I like the micro landscape as well. It is nice to see some of our long lost Avalonian brothers and sisters returning!

It is nice to see some of our long lost Avalonian brothers and sisters returning! ^Agreed. Looking great :D Here are some things you might want to tweak/play around with: His eyes. They currently have the Islanders tiki head expression. Without changing your actual structure I would play around with different kinds of eyes. Good eyes can communicate life, soul, intelligence, personality and element. You might want to try making inward facing acute triangles out of a variety of trans pieces to convey those things. >.< with some eyebrows .\ /. (dk. green root vines might suit this guy :) Hands and teeth communicate power and rage. This guy could easily have a huge mouth if you wanted, might even make it easier. Rock monsters can sometimes be disjointed : ] So I'd worry more about making each body part smooth and proportional rather than feeling like you have to connect it immediately. It's looking great and epic though! keep it up :D Looking forward to the final MOC!

Actually the islanders tiki head is the look i wanted to archive while im building it. I'm happy that someone realised that but i see more innovative eyes will suit my monster better. Capt.JohnPaul Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Hail fellow Avolonians. I haven't really been active much in GoH. But a recent trip to PaB wall got me some good pieces. I'll be making a medium sized medieval landscape, so far, I have a small waterful and pond, and a town building is halfway done. I also plan to put in a small round wall. If anyone's interested, I have 3 pictures, but they were taken with a webcam, and the quality is not the greatest. If anyone wants a look, I'll open up a WIP topic.

Niku Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Good to see our fellow Avalonians are returning to activity, and is just in time, the land is on turbulent agitation. Every available men and women should answer the call to defend their land. On another topic I am having just as much fun as trouble, with the elemental, will upload a pic of the wip to get some feedback from you guys. Greetings.
Captain Settle Posted July 11, 2012 Posted July 11, 2012 Just got up a new MOC! That looks great! You seem too like using bandannas as trees.
