Jipay Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 Lol thanks ! But the main credit should go to BM for the design and Alex for the pictures. I only did the usual programing. Quote
Zarkan Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 Beautiful new skin. Loving your work, BJ and Jipay! ;-) Quote
Brick Miner Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 your welcome guys !!! it looks really good in action doesn't it !!! im pleased, considering this is a theme i wouldn't normally have anything to do with ;-) but i think that is the beauty of EB, it brings themes (and fans of them) together X-D unlike some other "classic-this-classic-that" forums (poking-fun of course ;-) ) i wish there was a classic-western :-D -------------------------------------------------- as for the skin. i'll do a run down like i did with the H&A... like with the History & Adventure Forum banner, i was looking to tell a little story. very similar to the 1990's official LEGO catalogs. well, for Town & Trains i wanted to stay away from the cliche cops and robbers, and come up with something a little more in depth. but honestly, everything else got to complicated. me and alex54 (co-designer of the banner image) were thinking of showing the crook falling into a manhole that a construction worker was working in (i love the construction minifigs and wanted to include them). but to show that would require showing the minifig's feet. and it's really hard to blend the feet with a digital background. my MOCs images take forever :-| plus, the minfigs would be super tiny showing that much story in a little banner !!! in any case, i just opted for the obvious... but im very happy with the results. as for the rest of the skin... i wanted a busy street feeling. see, when your walking in the streets you get bombarded with warnings, advertisements, traffic, etc... its a little much. so i wanted to capture a little of that, but still have it be visually appealing. the street/road header, railroad header, crossing guard, and construction headers all add to this busy "street" feeling. together they make up quite a range of colors (far more than the H&A Forum) which helps the busy street feeling also. hobbes actually suggest the concrete-gray look that dominates most of the forum (good call). so he gets some credit on this too !!! i hope everyone enjoys !!! - BrickMiner Quote
phoinix Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 this looks great guys! Finally a skin for the city!.. *y* My only sugestion would be an airplane in the sky back there... *sweet* Quote
Aredhel Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 The new skin looks really cool. Good work *y* Quote
gylman Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Very very nice. What software do you use? Where did you get the background pics and the good qualilty pics of the figs - did you download them somewhere? Quote
Hobbes Posted September 17, 2006 Author Posted September 17, 2006 Where did you get the background pics and the good qualilty pics of the figs - did you download them somewhere? From what I understood BM designed and made the backdrop and Alex54 provided the pics which he took himself. Quote

From what I understood BM designed and made the backdrop and Alex54 provided the pics which he took himself. So they are photos of real figs, put on a homemade background of houses and trees. I am even more impressed. The pictures have to somehow be turned, tilted, increased, decreased in size to create the perspective, and still they look so sharp and "in the picture". I am sure if you know what you are doing this is not terribly hard, but for a tyro like me, it seems very complex. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Looks good but it needs a train. Quote
Hobbes Posted September 17, 2006 Author Posted September 17, 2006 Looks good but it needs a train. There's tracks. On the "front page", the "headline", where it says "Topic Title", "Replies", "Topic Starter" etc. Quote

Brick Miner Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 you know, this forum IS called "Train & Town" and i've been calling it "Town & Train" :-$ brickster has a point... "train" comes first X-O unfortunately ;-) the Theater Forum is up next for a visual makeover !!! - BrickMiner Quote

Is that right? I really must try this. I think I have PHotoshop somewhere. Very nice. Quote
Jipay Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 (pssst : those are the icons for the topics, the banner is made from real MF, head included ;-) ) Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 18, 2006 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 18, 2006 Personally I wouldn't add a train or plane. That would make it too crowded. Looks good as it is *y* Quote
alex54 Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 So you made these faces from scratch, and pasted some of them on Alex's minifig's faces. Is that right? No no! Like Jipay said, They are some real minifigs :real heads, hats, torsos and all! Quote

Like Jipay said, They are some real minifigs :real heads, hats, torsos and all! I was talking about the 4 faces in the picture I quote in my post. They look like computer generated graphics, not like photos. But those are actually the banners for the topics, not for the skin. The figs I understand were from photos. You see, how little I understand about this...... Quote
alex54 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I was talking about the 4 faces in the picture I quote in my post. They look like computer generated graphics, not like photos. I don't know where they come from. BM, do you have done them yourself or do you have a model? Quote
Brick Miner Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 well, my models are the minifigs themselves !!! but as for creating them from scratch. yes, i do that. i've actually just created 4 for phes and the pirates !!! when i first started making these heads, i was doing them for my MOC, Gunsligners Saloon. a couple of wanted posters appeared in the set as stickers. one poster featured the crook head, which now appears in the Train & Town skin. i never would have imagined that when i was creating it !!! in any case, these first two heads took me probaby and hour to make... now i can make a head in about 10 minutes. those pirate heads took me about 1/2 and hour for all 4 !!! - BrickMiner Quote
