Lordofdragonss Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 "Wait for Gorg, Gorg will help too!"- he said joining to clean up.
Rumble Strike Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Sorrow watched as the others tried to clear some of the rubble. She agreed with Nerwen: "Both the ruffians and the barkeep spoke of a cave-in here at the mine. I believe we have just found it. Watch yourselves, I still feel the presence of dark magic." With plenty of willing hands the party cleared enough of the cave-in to uncover two skeletons. They party were just about to search them when the skeletons eerily stood up, their limbs jerking inhumanly and the same malevolent glow in their eyes that they had seen in the beasts and vermin from earlier. The two undead were joined by two scorpions, and also a spider, springing up from the rubble with the same evil look. Prepare for battle! Darth Nihilus Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) "What the hell?" Dak shouts, finally coming out of his trance." They chose to mess with the wrong Hero. Scubacarrot Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 More evil animals, and now there was the undead to deal with, perfect. Guts got ready to attack the Spider from the front row (with Mockthril Cutlass)
Xarrzan Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Sarick hissed and backed away as the Skeleton near him rose with evil life. He could feel the magical energy emanating from the undead. Sarick hissed and said "My frost magic doesss not work against the undead. I shall attack the Red Scorpian from the back row with my frost magic." As Sarick charged his magical energy his mind flashed back to his home. Even under the waves the undead were a menace. His hatred for them burned brightly. He recalled how the warriors of his tribe had non magical weapons and how they had no effect against the undead. When the dead swam the clerics were called forward to use their healing arts. Sarick had changed his mind. "Cancel that, I shall attack the Bearded Skeleton from the back row with my healing staff."
Lordofdragonss Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Gorg roars and attacks the Red Scorpion from the front row.
Bioniclover Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 "Knifk smash black scorpion from front row! YAAAARGH!" Knifk lets out a fearsome warcry and leaps into the fray.
Rumble Strike Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 QM Note - Only healing (via spells as a Cleric, potions, or that fine Staff of Healing that Sarick has), Holy Bombs or element-fused weaponry can hurt Undead foes. I would strongly suggest Gorg uses the Holy Bomb, and Dak to change to a non-Undead foe as he will not even scratch the skeleton. I wouldn't normally do this as QM, I should be happy to let you make your own mistakes, but I'm sure Nerwen as Party Leader will mention this, and Sarick has mentioned it in his attack.

Battle Order Knifk - black scorpion Guts -spider Dak (-red scorpion) Gorg (-throw holy bomb) Nerwen -heal hat skeleton >Sarick -bearded skeleton (bracketed actions suggested, not yet confirmed!) Dak! Take the red scorpion that Gorg was targeting so he can use his holy bomb. I'll heal the hatted skeleton from the back row Sarick, you spells will hurt the undead, they just won't do double damage. This is going to be a tough fight!
Rumble Strike Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 As the party scramble to face them, a harsh, guttural rasp emanates from the bearded skeleton: "He will rise again! You cannot stop him!" His hatted friend also speaks in a similar growl: "She knows this. She is waiting!"

Lordofdragonss Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 (edited) With the new order from his leader Gorg throws the Holy Bomb at enemies! Edited December 7, 2011 by Lordofdragonss
Rumble Strike Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 Results of round one of the cave-in battle: Knifk vs Black Scorpion = Miss Guts vs Spider = Shield (Mug) Dak vs Red Scorpion = Miss Gorg throws Holy Bomb >Nerwen vs Hat Skeleton = Heal More >Sarick vs Bearded Skeleton = Shield (Magic Burst) (didn't bother rolling again, this is the best roll he can have) The heroes face off against their foes in what could be the toughest battle yet. Knifk, as ever first in the battle order, swings at the black scorpion, but is clearly not used to his new Mockthril katana yet and misses the scuttling enemy. Guts maintains his streak even with his new Mockthril cutless, slashing at the spider with fine form, leaving it almost dead (16 damage). Strangely enough, 16 gold pieces tumble out of the spider where it had been sliced open. Must've been really hungry down in that mine! Dak, perhaps still concerned with the revelations regarding his heritage and Isaac Shawe, aims for the red scorpion with his new Mockthril whip and misses. Gorg, despite following his Barbarian leanings and wanting to get in there and hit something, anything with his new spear, obeys the party leader and throws the Holy bomb. Perhaps not the brightest thing to do in an enclosed space, but it has a dramatic effect, dropping the spider stone dead (5 damage), hitting the red (5 damage) and black (5 damage) scorpions and hitting the undead skeletons with a wave of holy light for high damage (10 damage each). Nerwen, knowing that her Cleric healing power is crucial in this fight, concentrates hard and with the Elven Goddesses in agreement, causes high damage to the fearsome be-hatted skeleton (11 damage). Sarick doesn't let his newly-acquired hair get in the way of his spellcasting ability. Although intending to use the Staff of Healing to hurt the undead, his frost magics overflow from his scaly body, striking the red (9 damage) and black (9 damage) scorpions and hitting both the undead skeletons with an icy blast for high damage (18 damage each) before hitting his intended target with the Healing Staff (18 damage). Both skeletons crumble into dust from the combined onslaught, the bearded one managing to gurgle "She chose well..." before dying once again. Any enemy not targeted will get a Free Hit on the party after everyone has acted. QM Note - It's official, I hate you all. I think all the calculations are correct; the sticking point for me is if Sarick gets to use the Healing Staff on his target as well as doing the Magic Burst, but even if that isn't the case, with only 2 points of health left I'm not quibbling too much. I am not running the second round automatically as there are two targets remaining, but if I check in later and you are all happy for me to run the battle then I will.
Scubacarrot Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Guts almost froze completely when the skeleton uttered those words, as soon as the battle was over, it seemed they would need to have a little chat with someone. Focussing once more on the remaining creatures, Guts got ready to attack the Black Scorpion from the front row.

They take 9 damage each. The healing property of the weapon is not used, as far as I know, since the attack uses the weapon's WP for convenience but is not actually a weapon strike. Vermin are weak against ice magic though, and do take double damage, 18 each leaving Skeleton with Hat Type: Undead Health: 0/30 Bearded Skeleton Type: Undead Health: 11/30 Red Scorpion Type: Vermin Health: 0/20 Black Scorpion Type: Vermin Health: 0/20 Spider Type: Vermin Health: 0/18 I only want to help you ruleswise to QM, and the descriptions are great! Thanks for all your hard work. Nerwen's eyes smarted from the flash of holy light from Gorg's bomb, followed quickly after by the chilling gust of ice that swirled around the cavern. Hold your strikes people. Make sure you can see clearly before swinging! In the confusion, Nerwen was a little unsure how many foes remained. But she could tell that none of the party had been damaged, which was encouraging. No wonder your people sent you adventuring Sarick, those bursts are powerful! Xarrzan Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 OOC: I was going to post in rules and discussion but its already been mentioned here. When a mage gets a magic burst they use their magic to attack the enemy. They do not also get a weapon attack. Still enjoying the quest! Sarick felt the rush of energy as he unleashed his magic. He moved back to assess the situation. "Thanksss for the information Nerwen. My people despise magic users and have alwaysss told me that my frost magic is useless against the undead. It is good to see it effects them."
Rumble Strike Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 QM Note - Really sorry about that guys. For some reason I thought that Sarick's elemental magic did double damage. I really appreciate you guys explaining things and can only apologise when I don't get stuff right. And we know it's your first time QMing too. The emphasis on a sense of story is great, it lifts the game above a dice rolling exercise. As it is, the new results actually make it harder for the party, since only Sarick and Nerwen can hurt the skeleton with attacks... As the air clears, Nerwen and the party see that only one skeleton remains. Nerwens thoughts dwell on her dwindling ether. She would have bought a tonic if she had ever had the money. If the Orcs or the rogues attacked it, they would not harm it and only risked being hurt themselves, However, in this situation there was little choice, she would have to trust Galadrya and Celebryon would aid her. Speaking up she said to the others... You cannot harm this foe, step back. Defend Sarick by being prepared to attack if the skeleton survives from the back row. Knifk, Gorg, Dak then Guts. Sarick will attack first, then I will heal the skeleton again standing in the front. Then you in order after. Speak up if you need a rest or have a different idea! Battle order >Sarick - Skeleton Nerwen - Heal Skeleton >Knifk - Skeleton >Gorg -Skeleton >Dak -Skeleton >Guts -Skeleton I've left the others attacking ,since, if the skeleton survives, and rolls special damage against them it will hurt itself as well as them, possibly killing itself. I'm not sure how to explain how Nerwen would know that in character so she speaks about defending Sarick, which isn't really a valid action, but makes sense in context. Addressing the skeleton she shouts You will not use this poor man's bones as your instrument any longer! Galadrya of nature, dismiss this unnaturallness! Celebryon of order, banish this chaos! Scubacarrot Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 As Guts looked up at the skeleton before him, a feeling of disorientation suddenly comes over him, did they not defeat this skeleton already? Blaming his confusion on the Darkstar, Guts tightened the grip on his sword, and got ready to attack the Skeleton from the back row. Ooc: Because that is smart.

The Naga does not disappoint. He calls forth such a flurry of frost magic that the temperature in the mineshaft plummets and the bearded skeleton is slowly frozen solid before it can attack the party (14 damage). He manages to gurgle "She chose well..." before succumbing to the ice. The battle is victorious!
