Guts, fresh from trying to scare the thuugs with his blade, runs in and stabs Artie the thug with a critical hit, Artie taking 8 damage. Dak sees his fellow Rogue score a good hit and does the same to Bert, skewering him painfully with his twin longswords for 8 damage. The party is in no mood for mercy as Gorg, eager to prove himself worthy of being chosen, unleashes a mighty hit on the unfortunate Bert, clobbering him with his bone club for a whopping 10 damage, ending his participation in the brawl Sarick, perhaps distracted somewhat by the option of brushing hi sopponents hair, tries to use his frost magic, but Artie fights back and connects with a big hit on the snakeman, wounding him for 4 damage. Nerwen decides enough is enough, and smashes the impudent Artie across the head with her staff for 8 damage, knocking him unconcious. The battle is victorious! Darth Nihilus Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 "I say we go into the tavern," Dak said with a smile. It had felt good to hit that man with his swords, and he relished the experience. Perhaps it was wrong to feel pleasure at the prospect of war, but he enjoyed it nonetheless. OOC: Sorry I was gone, I managed to get myself convinced to stay 2 days longer at my parent's than I was expecting to. Call me influencable.
Bioniclover Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Knifk cheered his party's success, but was slightly disappointed that all he'd done was protect the group from damage in a non-existent second round. He clapped Gorg on the back, saying "Good smack, Gorg! Your bone has as much bite as the wyrm it was pried from, eh?"
Xarrzan Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Sarick was annoyed. His second battle fought and yet he still did not get to unleash his magic. He was also baffeled. How could such a weak thug do so much damage to him when he stood farther back than his companions? Sarick would make sure to unleash much magical fury in his next encounter. OOC: If the thugs were level 4 and hit for 4 damage, shouldn't I have taken 2 damage since I stood in the back row?
Chromeknight Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Party Leader, how will the spoils of the battle be divided? 30 Gold With the thugs subdued, what will the party do? Nerwen hands 5 gold to each of party Shall we go into the tavern then? OOC: Don't forget to update your signatures!
Lordofdragonss Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 At the end of the battle Gorg gives a mighty roar. "Good smack, Gorg! Your bone has as much bite as the wyrm it was pried from, eh?" Gorg was proud that skilled fighter praised him. "Ye Gorg really belive in Gorg Weapon, thats the trick"-He said with smile, hitting ground few times with his bone. "But Gorg knows that everyone fight well!"
Scubacarrot Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 "Nicely done." Guts wondered if the people in the tavern had heard something from the fight, and how they would react if they did. Ooc: I should have 10 gold after the battle, 15 after loot divided, I started with 5, got 5 from the first battle, and now should have 15 :)
Rumble Strike Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 QM Note - Thanks for spotting things guys, I can only apologise. Sarick indeed takes only 2 damage as he was in the back row and Guts did start the fight with 10 gold. Party now updated with gold distributed as per party leader: Guts Holla (played by Scubacarrot) Level 3 Rogue Power: 6 Health: 9/9 Gold: 15 Inventory: Rusty Shortsword (WP:3), Potion, Venom, Bedroll Sarick Lanse (played by Xarrzan) Level 3 Mage Power: 8 Health: 4/7 Ether: 7/7 Gold: 10 Inventory: Healing Staff (WP:5, healing effect), Shark Fang Dagger (WP: 3),Opal Gem (Ice), Potion, Magic Hairbrush Dak Nikolus (played by darthnihilus) Level 3 Rogue Power: 6 Health: 9/9 Gold: 5 Inventory: Twin Longswords (WP:3), Venom, 2 Potions, Bedroll Nerwen Calmcacil (played by Chromeknight) ** Party Leader ** Level 3 Cleric Power: 6 Health: 6/11 Ether: 5/7 Gold: 10 Inventory: Wooden Staff (WP:3), Potion x2, Remedy, Fire Bomb Gorg (played by Lordofdragonss) Level 2 Barbarian Power: 5 Health: 9/9 Gold: 5 Inventory: Bone club (WP:3), a bottle of Mead, Potion Knifk (played by Bioniclover) Level 3 Knight Power: 6 Health: 9/12 Gold: 5 Inventory: Morning Star (WP:3), Wyrm Shield (SP:2), Potion ----------------------------- After the skirmish the party decide to head into the Tavern. It is small and smoky, populated by several strange-looking individuals. The conversation dies down as the party walk in and several of the denizens of the tavern stop to look at them. The disdainful-looking man in the headress inquires loudly to the party: "You made quite a racket as you entered, what was going on outside?" What will the party do?
Scubacarrot Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 "That? Oh, there were two donkeys that went on a rampage. They had to be put down, you know how it goes. We were happy to lend a hand."
Darth Nihilus Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 Dak throws up his cloak as he enters, his hood should cover his skin tone well. He was afraid that he would be ridiculed here, as he had been in every tavern he had gone into outside of his hometown. He looks around, and notices that all the men and the few women inside are mostly drunk and watches as a barfight takes place. The tavern has many swirling emotions wriggling through the air like ribbons, emotions of fear, anger, sorrow, and pain. Many of the people he sees turn away quickly at the sight of his comrades, for some reason no one likes elves or orcs. He takes no offence, since his elven brethren must have done something to require such suspicion. He watches as Guts lies to the shrouded man, but he does not join in the conversation.
Bioniclover Posted November 27, 2011 Posted November 27, 2011 "That? Oh, there were two donkeys that went on a rampage. They had to be put down, you know how it goes. We were happy to lend a hand." Knifk kicked Guts in his leg, lightly enough that the others in the tavern wouldn't see it, but not so much Guts wouldn't notice. "Knifk not think it's best to lie to citizens. Look, that bartender is orc. Me and Gorg go talk to him for information." Knifk walks to the Orcish bartender and begins to converse with him in Orcish. "Hello, friend! Don't mind Guts, he is silly thief and Rogue. You know Rogues with their sneaky, conniving... donkey stories. We are looking for a magic gem - the Darkstar, and we have reason to believe it's in the abandoned mine. Can you tell us anything about the mine?"
Rumble Strike Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 (edited) Headress blinks a few times, processing Guts' answer, then nods. "A donkey rampage, eh? Here in Ve'er? How positvely vulgar! They are frightful creatures!" The two Orcs in the party head to the Barkeep, who, like Jurn, seemed to be Orcish in nature. He responds in a similar tongue: "I don't believe your friend with his silly donkey story. It's possibly the most unlikely story I've ever heard since the mage and his blue companion. Which means you guys are either trouble, or in trouble. Not that I care either way, but perhaps Ve'er Town Watch might have something to say about it. Now, about this gemstone... The Darkstar? All I heard about that were long ago legends, but you know how bar folk like to talk. According to legend, centuries ago the Darkstar was held by a Friaskalan General called Haroka, a powerful warrior, who used its dark magical energies to boost his power and enslave entire cities to his will. When he died, the Darkstar went missing. I really doubt that something that powerful would be here in Ve'er, but then there were a few problems with the mine some months back; cave-ins, people going missing. Bits of bodies piling up. Eventually they couldn't get anyone to go down there and it closed down. It's all boarded up now. And the sickness, of course. That nice Jui Halpo and others. Wait, you don't think those are connected do you?" Edited November 27, 2011 by Rumble Strike

Wait, you don't think those are connected do you?" Nerwen, who is fluent in orcish, and has excellent hearing, listens to the conversation between the barkeep and heroes from across the room. The mention of a mage and a blue companion piques her interest and she moves across to ask in quiet tones. Friend Barkeep, I am friend to orcs here. Can you please tell more about Mage and companion? How would we recognise them? How long ago were they here and have they been seen since? Edited November 27, 2011 by Chromeknight
Rumble Strike Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 QM Note - Sorry, the "mage and his blue companion" was a reference to Althior and Finnegan (K-nut's Heroica characters, I quested with him in Quest#5). The barkeep was simply implying that the donkey story was a tall story and that he didn't believe it. I feel bad about that now because I've been telling you since the quest began that you should be reading the text carefully and then I go and add in an unnecessary in-joke which has confused the issue. Apologies. --------------------------------------- The barkeep appraises Nerwen with a smile. "An Elven lady speaking our tongue, will wonders never cease? Well met, my dear. I hope these two are not causing you too much trouble?" he motions to Knifk and Gorg before continuing. "My meaning was, that we have heard rumours - even here in Ve'er - of a mage with a strange blue companion questing for Heroica. A totally unbelieveable tale, much like your man's donkey story. Just watch your step, lady Elf. Ve'er is no longer a safe haven for the kind-hearted."
Bioniclover Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 "Could you please tell us more about the mysterious happenings in the mines? I do indeed believe they are related to the gemstone we seek."
Rumble Strike Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 The barkeep turns back to his kin as Knifk asks more questions.. "I can't really tell you much more than what I know. Things started to go wrong. Several people got killed, either by cave-ins, or by other means. There was talk of bodies being dragged out half-eaten. Workers refused to go down there. Eventually the Ve'er Town Watch sealed off the area and it's been undisturbed ever since, as far as I know. But there were other whispers. People think the workers may have uncovered something they weren't supposed to. Everyone loves a conspiracy theory, I guess, but it could well be the gemstone that you seek." QM note - I know a lot of this was originally told to you by the thugs outside, but at least it's been verified for you. I have to leave some surprises that you aren't told about, should you decide to go into the mine

There are many strange things in the world, Elves who speak orcish, heroic mages with magic in a bottle and strange creatures that affect only those who love women... No, these younglings have been no trouble. And thank you for the warning, I might seem kind, but my staff is a useful companion and I know well how to use it. We will head to the mine shortly, is there anything you think we might need? Torches? Rope?
Rumble Strike Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 The barkeep looks thoughtful. "Well, as you can tell, the lack of a general store in the high street would be an issue, but I'm sure there will still be items like torches and rope in the mine. The Town Watch can't have removed everything from there. I wish you luck on your journey, it's clearly not a pleasant place to go. You are indeed brave heroes. I hope that you find this Darkstar, or whatever's causing the sickness problems in this town. You will be doing everyone here a great service. Here, have some drinks on the house." QM Note - Drinks are only suitable for roleplay and do not have any effect on players. Unlike real life! Let me know if you want to go back to the magic shop before heading to the mine.

Does anyone want to go back across the road to the shop? Sarick coiled himself near the window, keeping a look out for trouble while the others held conversations with the patrons. When Nerwen asked her question Sarick responded, "I have no need to return to the shop but would appreciate a heal before heading down into the mine."
Scubacarrot Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 "I am ready to go." Guts's eyes started to burn a little bit at the thought of returning to the fluorescent shop.
Darth Nihilus Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Turning to the others who have been engaged in a staring competition with turban guy. Does anyone want to go back across the road to the shop? Sensing Nerwen's eyes on him, Dak thinks for a moment. "I'm ready, unless there's something else for us to fight in town that is. If there isn't, on to the mine I say!" Edited November 29, 2011 by Darth Nihilus
Rumble Strike Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 The party decide to leave the Tavern and head to the mine. Nerwen thanks the barkeep for his help in Orcish and they head out. Outside the Tavern though, are members of Ve'er Town Watch! 4 lawmen stand before them, armed to the teeth. The man in blue is clearly the leader. He speaks to the party: "Well well well, it appears I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch, has apprehended those ruffians who beat up two defenceless townfolk not moments ago. I am surprised you are not fleeing the scene with all due haste, but then, you probably thought the Town Watch full of slow, plodding lawmen and not someone as dashing and dynamic as myself. That was your first mistake!" The 3 guards behind him listen to this and look at each other in resignation. One even shrugs his shoulders as if to indicate, "not again!". What will the party do?
Scubacarrot Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 "Wait, hold on. Are you serious?" Guts did not have the patience to reason with this foolish man, but perhaps it was not such a good idea to wipe out what seemed to be this little town's only form of defense, he hoped Knifk or Nerwen could talk some sense in the guy.
Rumble Strike Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 After his outburst, Sorrow looked at Guts and hissed: "We don't have time for this. Guts, we need to eliminate them and get to the mine. We have delayed too long already, and this Horrkkba idiot and his band of fools can only hold us up."
