Darth Nihilus Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 "Knifk, diplomacy please?" Dak was sure the party could take these guys out in a fight, but it really didn't seem right, not since Knifk could get rid of them with diplomacy.
Scubacarrot Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 After his outburst, Sorrow looked at Guts and hissed: "We don't have time for this. Guts, we need to eliminate them and get to the mine. We have delayed too long already, and this Horrkkba idiot and his band of fools can only hold us up." "Quiet, woman. Killing these people is not good idea, if word got out that this town is defenseless, it will be days before this place is turned into a pile of burning rubble by bandits."
Xarrzan Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Sarick whispers to Nerwen, "I definitely need that heal now." Sarick then turns his attention back to the town guard. "Gentleman, we asked the two individualsss questions about the mine. They actually attacked us. I believe it was due to the trauma they sufferred while in the mine. We defended ourselvesss and do not hold a grudge. There is no need to press charges against Bert and Artie."
Bioniclover Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Knifk frowns at the man in blue, then diplomatically says "Pompous blu eman has it all wrong, thugs atttack Knifk and friends for no reason when we try to ask question about mine."
Rumble Strike Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) Sorrow shot Guts a look of comtempt. "I thought we were on the same page, that the ends justify the means. These Town Watch buffoons are putting their own town at risk in trying to apprehend us, it is not our fault if we take them out. They are in our way." Captain Hlin Horrkkba listens to Knifk and Sarick's reasonable defense, nodding occassionally, but continues with his long speech: "I have here a sworn statement from Artie, with additional comments from Bert. It states that: We was mindin our own bizness in front of the Tarvern when these wierd lookin people came and hassled us (hassled us!). There was two Orcs, a snakeman thing, a hot female Elf, a half Elf, and a pale lookin woman (very pale she was!). We wished them a good day and enquired as to their general health. They asked us questions about the mine which we was happy to answer (we was happy to answer them!). They then set about us with their weapons for absolutely no reason (no reason at all!). They stole our money which is all we had left after the mine closed down (all we had left!) As you can see, I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba, have found you, matching to a tee the description given. All except that one over there with the suspicious-looking hood on. All this talk of assault and stealing is sickening and I must ask you to accompany myself and these fine gentlemen to the station, where we will solve this little misunderstanding." What will the party do? QM Note - There is a specific way you can avoid this without fighting. Edited November 29, 2011 by Rumble Strike
Bioniclover Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 QM Note - There is a specific way you can avoid this without fighting. Knifk kicks the blue man in his special place and the party flees to the mines. "Blue man has been tricked by Artie and Bert, they assaulted party for no reason, not the other way around."
Darth Nihilus Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Dak decides in a flash what to do. He immediately makes an illusion, using the men's own senses against them. To them, Knifk and Gorg now look like normal, human Knights, while he himself looks like a full elf, and Sorrow is concealed from their view. He then takes away all the men's recollection of what the party looked like before the illusion, all using his mind
Xarrzan Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 Sarick noticed Dak concentrating on the guards. He was up to something so Sarick decided to distract them further. "If you fine gentleman have a piece of paper and a pen, I will write, and sign for you, our sworn statement." "I wasss also wondering Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch how someone as dashing as yourself has kept your guards in such good shape? They responded quickly to the false accusations of Artie and Bert."
Chromeknight Posted November 29, 2011 Posted November 29, 2011 4 lawmen stand before them, armed to the teeth. The man in blue is clearly the leader. He speaks to the party: "Well well well, it appears I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch, has apprehended those ruffians who beat up two defenceless townfolk not moments ago. I am surprised you are not fleeing the scene with all due haste, but then, you probably thought the Town Watch full of slow, plodding lawmen and not someone as dashing and dynamic as myself. That was your first mistake!" The 3 guards behind him listen to this and look at each other in resignation. One even shrugs his shoulders as if to indicate, "not again!".Captain Hlin Horrkkba listens to Knifk and Sarick's reasonable defense, nodding occassionally, but continues with his long speech: "I have here a sworn statement from Artie, with additional comments from Bert. It states that: As you can see, I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba, have found you, matching to a tee the description given. Nerwen steps forward to address the Captain. Clearly you, Captain Horrkkba are dashing and dynamic. I cannot have been easy finding such a mismatched and unusual party such as ours within the village. It seems to me that you are cut from a different kind of cloth, the stuff heroes are made of. I imagine that you dream of grand adventures and only your commendable loyalty to your job prevents you from seeking out those opportunities. Fortunately for you, adventure has found you, Captain. The closure of the mine would have been a small setback for you no doubt. And your men, sturdy and well-trained as they are, I'm sure due to your excellent instruction, are not suited for venturing into such an accursed place. However, you have before you heroes of Heroica, who are honourable and upright and who recognise those same qualities in others. For this reason we offer you the right hand of friendship and, if your men are willing to part with you, the invitation to join us in clearing the mine of it's cursed denizens, releasing it to profitable use to benefit the town once more. With such a skillful companion we certainly cannot fail in this task. What say you Captain? Do you heed the call of adventure? When finished Nerwen heals Sarick at the cost of one ether.
Rumble Strike Posted November 29, 2011 Author Posted November 29, 2011 (edited) QM Note - Nice try DN, but I don't think Dak is that powerful. I see him as more of an Empath than a Telepath. So when you talk about sensing hostility in rooms, or moods changing, or even concentrating and seeing if someone is lying, that's fine. Messing with 4 law enforcement officers to change their perceptions, not going to happen. You aren't a Jedi! ---------------------- Dak concentrates really, really hard, but the lawmen are not weak-minded, and his attempts at an elaborate illusion fail. On hearing Sarick's words, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch signals to one of his men. A pen and paper is produced, and he hands them to the Naga. "By all means, create a written account of your actions. It will only make my job easier as I can produce it as evidence. I'm a stickler for spelling and grammar though, so make sure there are no mistakes please." He then addresses both Sarick's and Nerwen's attempts at flattery, standing tall and puffing his chest out a bit he continues: "I do believe in keeping myself and my men at peak physical fitness at all times. As a go-getting law enforcer you never know when you are going to need that extra bit of strength or stamina to apprehend criminals. But a hero? No, I have never wanted that for myself. I, Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town watch, am dedicated and professional, I do not aspire to be a great hero; certainly, in terms of law and order here in Ve'er, I already am fulfilling that role. You say you are Heroes of Heroica Hall? I have indeed heard many good deeds done by that establishment. Why then, would you attack innocent townsfolk, down on their luck? And stealing the last of their gold? How dispicable. I don't understand why you would do such a thing! Any more to say in your defence, or shall we go quietly to the station now?" I don't understand why you would do such a thing! We maintain that we were attacked, and in order to teach the thugs a lesson we removed their purses. There was 30 gold inside, and how out of work miners amassed such an amount is suspicious. If the sticking point is that this is the last of their money we will happily turn over the coins to you to be held in evidence pending an investigation into how they got it. As you would know, we did not kill the thugs or leave them incapacitated, so there can be no question of charges of assault. Especially as it would be our word against theirs as to who struck the first blow. Will handing the money to you satisfy the processes of justice?

Messing with 4 law enforcement officers to change their perceptions, not going to happen. You aren't a Jedi! OOC: Dammit, I thought for sure that that would work. Maybe when I get to a higher level, eh? IC: Dak stops the attempt before the strain kills him. He had thought for sure that he had gotten powerful enough to do it, but apparently not. "I don't know, guys and girl, we really need to get by, and fighting seems like the only option. Unless Gorg or Knifk or Sarick can scare them with their inhuman traits? No offense of course guys, I just am at a loss here. Maybe we should follow Sorrow's advice and just fight them. Or we could sneak by them and find the two responsible for all this." Suddenly, an idea pops into Dak's head. It was crazy and reckless, but since when had any of his ideas been sensible? "Gentlemen and lady, we do not need to fight over this petty squabble when I know how to solve it." he spoke, trying to make his voice sound booming and influential."What if you accompany my party and I to the mine, along with Bert and Artie? They agreed to our offer before, so we're going to hold them to their promise. If we get out of the mine alive, we'll pay Bert and Artie what we owe them." Dak hoped the party would agree with him.
Rumble Strike Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 Will handing the money to you satisfy the processes of justice? Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch mulled this over. "I think if you would hand the gold back as evidence... to be kept in safekeeping by Ve'er's fine law enforcement establishment, then I could definitely see a way to avoid any further paperwork and a visit back to the station, on account of your being heroes from Heroica Hall."

With the understanding that a just and careful lawman such as yourself will undertake a full investigation. And should it be shown that the thugs struck first and wilfully attacked us, then the money will be returned to us. Nerwen hands Captain Hlin 10 gold. I've covered 10. Knifk and Gorg paid for the medicine. If others cover the remaining 20, it'll be repaid from future loot. Then we can be on our way to the mine.
Scubacarrot Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 (edited) "Good old fashioned bribery." Guts said under his breath. Without saying another word he put his 15 gold in the raised hand of the captain. Edited November 30, 2011 by Scubacarrot
Darth Nihilus Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 "Good old fashioned bribery." Guts said under his breath. Without saying another word he put his 15 gold in the raised hand of the captain. "Indeed." Dak hands over his 5 gold. "That's all the money that we owe them."
Rumble Strike Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 The party hand their gold to Nerwen, who hands the 30 pieces to Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Town Watch. "Ah, yes, this is just the ticket. I shall make sure this gets put in our evidence locker straightaway! Come on lads, let's leave these fine heroes to the mine." The corrupt Town Watch leave the Tavern area, and the party stand alone in the main street again. They are down 30 gold pieces, but hope they will find some unclaimed loot in the mine. What will the party do? QM Note - Good job on handing the money back. Captain Hlin Horrkkba of the Ve'er Town Watch talked a good game, but was sadly very much open to a bribe. I promise you will get some good stuff in the mine to make up for having to lose your money. Also, check out the mine entrance pic, I was really pleased with what I built, I thought it came out really well. Easily the best thing I've made so far
Bioniclover Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 "Party will go into mine now?" Knifk asks. He then turns to the boards and smashes them with his morning star to clear the way.
Rumble Strike Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 As Knifk takes care of the boards in proper Orc fashion, a cold wind rushes up out of the mine in an eerie, unsettling hiss. Looking at one another, the party head into Ve'er's abandoned mine. Close to the entrance, there is still light coming in. There is equipment here; a wooden stick, an oil drum, and a tinderbox. Taken together, they create a torch. Which member of the party will carry the torch? They will not be able to carry any other weapons whilst the torch is equipped.

Especially how you made the small POOP rock nearly invisible. OOC: changed sig to remove acronym so as not to annoy God OOC: Question for God/rules angels, Can Sarick still cast spells holding the torch? Nerwen realises she had slipped into distraction, thinking about too many things, some of which seemed more like a game than real life. Shrugging, and approving of the forthright way Knifk opened the path, she lead the party into the mine. Nerwen picked up the torch for now. Thinking that before finding foes she could hand it over without bother. Come on gents!
Scubacarrot Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 "I say Sorrow should carry the torch, it is not like she is doing anything else, besides telling me to hurry up and make mysterious comments no one understands."
Darth Nihilus Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 "I say Sorrow should carry the torch, it is not like she is doing anything else, besides telling me to hurry up and make mysterious comments no one understands." "I don't think Sorrow will like that." "Nope, she doesn't like it." Dak thinks, then says:"i'll carry the torch, I'm not much help in battle anyway." OOC: Darn it, I was hoping to do my big reveal before we got into the mine. I guess it will have to wait, though.
Chromeknight Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 "I say Sorrow should carry the torch, it is not like she is doing anything else, besides telling me to hurry up and make mysterious comments no one understands." Listening to the wisdom of her hooded companion Nerwen hands the torch to the dour mystic.
Rumble Strike Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 OOC: Bingo! I was wondering if you'd use Sorrow, she was the obvious choice as NPC. For the record, a mage or cleric would still be able to cast spells but not use weapons. In Quest#5 (from which I totally ripped this idea off, thanks cralegoboy!) we gave the torch to the level 1 mage. "Fine, I guess it makes sense for me to hold the torch, lest something... unpleasant happen to any of you whilst holding it." Leading the way as she has the torch, Sorrow guides them deeper into the mine. The air is musty and smells tainted somehow. The mine entrance area heads down a slight incline, and then two tunnels branch left and right. Which way will the party head?
Xarrzan Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) Sarick tastes the air in the mine before saying, "I think we should go right. Bessst not to go too deep down into the mine before checking out the higher ground." Edited December 1, 2011 by Xarrzan
