Chromeknight Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Sarick tastes the air in the mine before saying, "I think we should go right. Bessst not to go too deep down into the mine before checking out the higher ground." Right it is. Nerwen leads the party right. OOC: For thoughts on path choosing see the best selling book "What would Cronk do?"
Rumble Strike Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 The party head right, down a tunnel that immediately gets smaller. This tunnel winds on downwards for several hundred metres and is quite tight and cramped. It opens up into a larger area, however this appears to be a dead end. Sitting, slithering and flying in front of them are an array of creatures - a bat, a mongrel dog, a green snake, a red snake and a baby dragon. Scubacarrot Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 "Snakes, why did it have to be snakes..." Guts gets ready to attack the Green Snake from the front row!
Darth Nihilus Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 "Gorg, attack the baby dragon with me! Everyone else, pick your targets!" Dak stabs the Baby Dragon from the front row.
Xarrzan Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Sarick wishes he could speak to his distant reptilian relatives, especially the baby dragon. It would make a powerful ally. "Reptilesss do not like the cold so I shall attack the red snake from the back row with my frost magic."
Bioniclover Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 "Grrr! Knifk smash baby Dragon from front row!!!!" Knifk yells, raising his spiked mace above his head and charging.

We need to get rid of that baby dragon, but we really don't need a Free Hit on us, so either Nerwen or Gorg need to target the Mongrel Dog, and the other needs to target the Demon Bat."

OOC: Since Gorg could get an Extra Critical hit, and I have the most defense/HP, the two of us should target the strongest foe (the dragon) and the others should each get a weaker foe, right? So shouldn't Dak go for one of th other enemies? Or am I just horribly confused?

Rumble Strike Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 (edited) QM Note - I am happy for Nerwen to choose for Gorg this round as he is the only one that hasn't posted. ---------------------- Results of Round One of the Vermin Battle Knifk -> Baby Dragon = Critical Hit Gorg -> Baby Dragon = Damage Guts Holla -> Green Snake = Critical Hit Dak Nikolus -> Demon Bat = Special Damage >Sarick Lanse -> Red Snake = Shield (Magic Burst) Nerwen Calmcacil ->Mongrel Dog = Special Damage This is clearly the toughest fight the group have had so far. Knifk, in his customary spearhead position, attacks first, going for the baby dragon and smashing it with his trusty morning star (9 damage). Gorg, the other Orc heavy hitter on the team, also aims for the baby dragon but his swing with the bone club misses and the dragon rakes its claws into his green flesh (4 damage). The ever-reliable Guts goes for the green snake and scores a fine hit with his rusty shortsword (9 damage). Dak aims for the Demon Bat that is flying high up overhead, but the fast, dizzying flight of the bat causes him to become Confused for 3 turns. Sarick manages to unleash the full power of his Frost magic in a terrifying Magic Burst, which hits all of the enemies but causes more problems for the beasts and vermin (8 damage to Demon Bat and Baby Dragon, 16 damage to both Snakes, killing them, and the Mongrel Dog). Encouraged by this, Nerwen confronts the mongrel, but underestimates the speed of the hurting beast, and gets bitten (5 damage), leaving her perilously close to being knocked out. Really miffed at Sarick's boosted power level due to the Healing Staff, and him rolling Shield. This was supposed to be a really tough fight after the one-round wonder last time! Grrrr! Now I know how Jeb feels OOC2: Fixed Sarick's Ether. I re-read the Rules and it definitely says that no Ether is lost. Apologies. Edited December 1, 2011 by Rumble Strike
Bioniclover Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 "Good round!" Knifk shouts, then turns and takes another swing at the baby dragon from the front row.
Xarrzan Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Sarick unleashed the full furry of his frost magic. It felt good to finally feel the magic coursing through his veins. To unleash the power pent up inside of him was invigorating. But it wasn't a completely joyous occasion. Sarick could hear the death crys of the reptiles and it pained him deeply. He could tell there was something wrong with them, but his team was more important right now. "I shall attack Nerwen with my Healing Staff from the back row." OOC: I believe when a mage or cleric use their shield ability they also don't use up any ether, so I should be at 7/7 ether. If I am wrong, someone let me know.

Now I know how Jeb feels OOC: I thought Gorg had chosen. Apparently not. As far as I know Xarzan chose ice to start with because it is strong against vermin, which are common low level enemies. The damage looks correct. I can't work out how the healing effect changes spells channeled through the weapon though. Well done Knifk and Guts! And Sarick too! Now hit me with that staff! Battle order. Knifk Guts Gorg Sarick Nerwen Dak Nerwen hits the mongrel again from the front row If we're done before Dak, he won't need to make a confused attack.
Scubacarrot Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 "Haha! Die, snakes!" Guts switched his attacks to the Demon Bat, remaining in the front row.
Darth Nihilus Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 Nerwen, should I still attack, even though there is a chance I'll hit one of you? If I should attack, I'll attack the baby dragon from the front row. If not, I'll stand here doing nothing."
Chromeknight Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 (edited) Nerwen, should I still attack, even though there is a chance I'll hit one of you? If I should attack, I'll attack the baby dragon from the front row. If not, I'll stand here doing nothing." Nerwen sees Dak confused from the bat flitting around his head in a dizzying manner. Slipping past his flailing doubled swords, she places her hands on his shoulders and points him toward the enemy. Pushing him gently in the direction of the baby dragon even though she is unsure if he'll swing back and hit one of the party. She thinks that all of the party, except perhaps her, could withstand the hit, and the chance that he'd finish off the fight was worth the risk. Steady Dak! Keep going that way! she calls, hoping her encouragement doesn't distract him from his task. Moving back behind the others in the front row she butts Gorg with the tip of her staff in the same direction, toward the baby dragon. Swing your bone Gorg! OOC: Provisional choice for Gorg for if he doesn't post in the next 3 hours. I don't want to be too bossy, but I'd like to keep combat rounds close to 24 hours if possible. Long enough for everyone to post, but quick enough for the game to flow. Please let me know if you disagree and especially let me know (PM is fine) if you are going to be away from keyboard for more than 24 hrs while we're in combat! Rumble Strike Posted December 2, 2011 Author Posted December 2, 2011 QM Note - I agree with ChromeKnight, and am happy to take provisional choices via the party leader. But really, Gorg's a Barbarian, so the default choice would be attacking the nastiest thing from the front row til it's dead. Barbarians are a blunt instrument ---------------------- Results of Round Two of the Vermin Battle Knifk -> Baby Dragon = Shield (Sentinel) Guts -> Demon Bat = Critical Hit Gorg -> Baby Dragon = Extra Critical Hit >Sarick -> Nerwen = Special Damage (No heal) Nerwen -> Mongrel Dog = Damage Dak -> Baby Dragon **Confused** Roll 1; Odds Confused, Evens Normal = Odd. Dak is confused Roll 2; 1-6 Party Battle Order to determine target = 1. Knifk is Dak's target Roll 3; Dak -> Knifk = Damage Knifk begins the round by getting into the Sentinel position, ensuring that the group will not take any damage next round. Guts continues his hot streak with his sword by killing the Demon Bat in one huge blow (Critical hit, 9 damage). Gorg follows Guts' example, managing to smash the baby dragon's head in with his bone club, leaving a messy trail of blood (Extra Critical hit, 11 damage). At this point the party look to be well in control, but battles rarely work out as expected. Sarick's tries to use the Healing Staff on Nerwen, but in the battle melee it is knocked out of his hand before he can heal her, which is critical as the party leader bravely faces down the mongrel dog, which again slips past her defenses and bites her, knocking her out (4 damage). Dak is confused by the Demon Bat's attack last round, initially flailing his longswords at the dragon, then the mongrel, but actually missing and almost slicing into Knifk. The Orc instinctively responds to the attack, catching Dak with a cruel blow with his Morning Star, almost knocking the Mopag Elf unconscious (6 damage). One enemy remains! I haven't seen the Confused effect ingame yet so hopefully you will agree with how it was handled. Although theer si only one enemy with low health, as the party leader is knocked out and another member a hit away from the same, I won't play the round automatically in case anyone wants to use potions or items etc.
Bioniclover Posted December 2, 2011 Posted December 2, 2011 "Whoops, Knifk is sorry for smacking Dak. Knifk will try to hit dog from front row instead of Dak this turn."
Xarrzan Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 The vibrations of the healing staff were too much for Sarick's hands to hold. During his swing the staff leapt from his hand in its excitement of the battle. He quickly grabbed it with his tail and checked on Nerwen. "She is fine, just unconsciousss. I could use a Phoenix Essence right about now. The dog is barely holding on. Lets finish thisss. Knifk is using his shield to protect our next attack so lets go all out! I shall attack Gorg from the front row with my healing staff. I suggest the following order of attack." Battle Order: Sarick - Gorg Knifk - Mongrel Dog Guts - Mongrel Dog Gorg - Mongrel Dog "Dak, we should be able to take down this feral dog so I suggest you take no action for now."
Scubacarrot Posted December 3, 2011 Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Ooc: I think the confused way should be a bit different, i.e. it makes no sense for Knifk to attack Dak, so what I would have done is: odd attack > person > and then I think shield, crit and hit should be played on Knifk, but I do not think the damage or special should be played out, I would treat them as a miss. "I will attack the dog from the front row!" Edited December 3, 2011 by Scubacarrot

Rumble Strike Posted December 3, 2011 Author Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) Results of Round Three of the Vermin Battle >Sarick -> Gorg = Shield (Magic Burst and Heal) With Nerwen temporarily incapacitated, Sarick slithers up as de facto party leader. The Naga mage, so annoyed with having the healing staff knocked out of his hand last round, heals Gorg (+8) and also releases a burst of magic frost energy against the Mongrel Dog, silencing it for good (damage 8).
