Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted September 18, 2006 Eurobricks Emperor Posted September 18, 2006 Here is my TOP 3 of the movies/series that have inspired my to start building ships and other pirate/navy stuff: 1. Hornblower Series (8 great movies!) 2. Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World 3. Cutthroat Island I must say that I really don't like POTC. Actually, I think I hate it :-) I very much want to know what your favorite series and movies are ... Quote
El Bucanero Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 The Acheron was inspired by the Acheron, the boat...err ship from master and commander Inspiration on the Red Peril SLOOP version was the Lotus, but thats not a movie or serie, the Red Peril SCHOONER version was inspired by the pirates of the Caribbean game, so say it is POTC. The Unpredictable was inspired by several other pirate mocs. I know those aren't all movies or series, but I was inspired by this. And to Bonaparte, why do you hate potc?? Quote

When I went to the cinema to watch the first POTC movie, I expected it to be real pirate movie (a bit like Cutthrout Island). I was really disappointed to see ghost-pirates and that awfull Jack Sparrow character. Must be me because a lot of other people seem to like it |-/ Quote

He is relatively amusing in the first movie, but strains his funny bone in the sequel. (A lot of that can be attributed to the script. Still, they're molding the character with the dialogue he spouts.) Good pirate movies can be a useful source of historical fodder. A few movies that come to mind are Master and Commander, Pirates of the Caribbean, a silly pirate movie (the submarine boat idea was stolen by POTC) starring Errol Flynn, I think? (It wasn Quote
MonkeyBosun Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Ive never seen Cutthroat Island, i don't rent movies over the internet, and the local blockbusters don't seem to have it. As for movies, I do like the POTC movies, the first one is probably better, but the second is probably the best movie i've seen in a while. I can't really think of any other inspiring pirate movies ive seen, but the History channel had a special called True Caribbean Pirates that was good, the Discovery channel also had some shows earlier this summer, at about the same time POTC2 was released in theaters. BTW...has anyone heard of East India Company? An upcoming PC game that sounds sort of like a pirate RPG, you can either be a pirate or a merchant? http://www.3dgamers.com/screenshots/games/eastindiacomp/ screenshots look pretty nice, and it looks like it could provide some inspiration to people interested in ship MOCs Quote

snefroe Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 we always went camping in July when I was young. My birthday is in august, so July was most of all a moment to think very hard about what to ask the family. In 1982 or so I had my heart set on Lego's space station when we went to see a film at the local cinema. it was the 'Pirate crimson' it seems, I only new this one with the dutch title: 'de Rode Zeeschuimer' , anyway, when i left the cinema, i'd changed my mind about the birthday present: no lego Space station :-X , but a playmobil pirate ship! X-O Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted September 19, 2006 Governor Posted September 19, 2006 I can't say there are any Pirate movies at current that have inspired me in MOC building. Although I haven't really got into the MOC building yet which I hope to do in mid November. However, the natives village in the 1933 version of King Kong makes me want to build an islander village using brown log walls. I think Armada Yoda attempted this last year but he hasn't posted a thread for his creation. Quote

Dreamweb Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Aye it's a great movie. I own it and watch it every now and then. I've read somewhere that this movie is the most accurate depiction of the real mutiny, however I don't know if that's true. Quote
Scouty Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I must admit, POTC, at first. I have usually been interested in pirates. However, I'm always interested in lego when it gets discontinued :-( . I've also watched alot of Pirate documentorys on the History channel (sp??) It's one of my favorite channels. Master and Commander I watched. A tV show on VHS (i think) i watched with my friend, which i don't think really had anything to do with pirates, but still seemed to bee in that era :-) . Quote

Dreamweb Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 About Pirates Of The Caribbean - so far I've only seen the first part, it's not a bad movie but not a great one either... It didn't inspire me to make any MOCs so far :-) But I'm planning to watch the second part soon. Quote
