Holly Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 I thought perhaps I'd better introduce myself (as I've already started posting in the forums). I'm old (well over 30 lets just say), I live in the UK and I've been into Lego seriously for almost 2 years since discovering how cool the HP sets are (though I was lucky enough to have Lego as a child - the not-so-mini figures of the 70's/80's I remember well). I have now found out how cool the Star Wars sets are (having been a SW fan since I was 8) via my 9 year old son and we are collecting/playing with them together (he's sitting next to me playing LSW OT as I write!). We are also both Legoland Windsor annual pass holders so we get to go there a lot which is fun (I'm sure everyone is aware of the current "spend fifty quid in the shop and get a free annual pass" promotion??). Anyway, I shall stop droning on now - I just wanted to say hi and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and participating in the forums. Holly Quote
Zarkan Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Holly, am I mistaken, or is that a girl name? :-P Bah, nevermind. Welcome to our friendly forums, Holly. Hope you have a great time here discuscing lego. ;-) Quote
Holly Posted September 18, 2006 Author Posted September 18, 2006 Yep, it's girls name ( as well as the name of a tree ;-) ) ...I assume there are other girls on this forum??!!!! Thanks for the welcome *sweet* Holly Quote
snefroe Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 welcome! well, i guess one of the differences between lego and playmo is that we hardly have females on our boards... yeah... we're kinda like the Ents of the old forest... We're looking for females all the time , but find very few... it's very unfortunate, but feel free to go and get a few others from the playmo boards if you will :-P still, i think harry potter is the theme that seems to attract females the most, so maybe if Lego were to produce a bit more HP sets... *sweet* Quote
Jipay Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Yep, it's girls name ( as well as the name of a tree ;-) ) ...I assume there are other girls on this forum??!!!!Thanks for the welcome *sweet* Holly Lamanda2 Ardhe...Adher... Lord Thrawn Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Welcome to Eurobricks! I'm from the UK too. Quote
Starwars4J Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Welcome to Eurobricks! I'm glad you're letting your son use Lego, it really helps for spatial recognition for when they're older. In fact it's not uncommon to see a few pieces of Lego in my professors offices in Uni :-P There are a few other girls, but as you can imagine it's a bit intimidating for women sometimes when they're the only ones on the forum! It's a bit intimidating for anyone to be in a very small minority, but at least our female population is growing, that should ensure a much more balanced view of things :-) Anyway, enjoy your stay Quote
xwingyoda Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Welcome Holly to this wonderfull place called EB ;-) To all sceptics out there: licences are good because it brings people like Holly back in the joy of Lego !! I'm sure you will enjoy your time with us ;-) So cheers and see you around ;-) *yoda* Quote

Ras 74 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Welcome to the bords Holly! Always nice to have females in here as well... more I mean. We just visited Windsor this spring on our annual EB event. To bad you coulden Quote
SuvieD Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Welcome to the boards Holly. It is true that too few females generally are into LEGO as adults. For some reason men find it easier or are more easily accepted "playing" with a "childs" toy. Also, sadly it does happen that building unique creations can turn into somewhat of a contest even when no contest is being held. The nature of a man I guess to stoke the ego and show off. Funny thing is that it scares off most of the girls and we are all left to impress each other. If you do build yourself and feel like sharing or want to pick up on some new techniques try looking through some of the things on brickshelf. See you around. Quote
