This is a great review Masked Builder, im not a huge fan of the colour choice on Lego's part but i absolutely  those new dinos, and the new pieces look great. I may have to get this depending if i don't blow my budget on Kingdoms,

Excellent review!

Really nice job on the review Masked Builder. You certainly gave us a very detailed one.

Unfortunately that didn't change my opinion about this set, at least not for the better of it. This set is really not what I'm looking for in a set. It appears to be large and detailed but in reality it's just made up by some enormous wall pieces in repetitive patterns. Sure, it has some good things, all sets have. But the minifigs and the dinosaurs (I like the small ones) don't make up for the huge disappointment that the building causes. The yellow colour might work for this purpose, but it is a really useless colour otherwise. I don't think I will buy this set even if it's half the price, it just isn't worth it with the pieces you get I think.

I still don't understand all the contempt for yellow. I'm not a major fan of yellow in general, but I think out of all the colours available, it works the best with the dinosaurs.

To each their own, I suppose. Just leaves more sets on the shelves for fellow AFOLs and children.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the comments.

Thanks for the review 'Masked Builder', my favourite part of the set is the clever inverted 10 wide windscreen for the control booth.

Yeah great job by LEGO there.

Does anybody else think the professor guy is Jake Raines? :sweet:

It is quite possible.

Actually, owing to the size I'm going to guess that this guy is a Utahraptor ostrommaysorum. Possibly Achillobator giganticus, but most probably Utahraptor. The colors on him look amazing, and I love how his teeth are behind his lips when the mouth is closed. That's something you don't see on many dinosaur toys.

I see you know about Dinosaurs.

The dinos are very photogenic, aren't they? Superb, can't wait for this line to come out.

Oh hoh yes they are!

How do these guys compare to the saurians from Dino Attack/2010 and 2001 Dinosaurs?

I don't know. I, sadly, don't own any of the old ones. :hmpf_bad:

Because velociraptor was roughly knee-high to a grown man - not quite as threatening as the creature TLG want it to be. Also, it really, REALLY looked like a bird. Actually, it pretty much was a bird, as were most of its cousins - but velociraptor totally looked like one.

Alright already! You guys know more than I do.

Looks great! This is actually pretty big, as you said. I do think that the T-Rex's head is a bit too big though.

I think it looks better in real life.

Also, am I mistaken that the minifig with the white shirt has a new hair piece? Or is it CW Obi's in black? The minifigure reminds me of this guy during his role in Inception.

Yes it is new. Oh hey it does!

I do have a question that I've been really curious about, is the T-Rex in this set the same size as the one in the T-Rex-Helicopter set (5886)? Because from my initial views it seems like the one in this set is larger (?)

Yes I do believe it's just the angle of the shot.

Just out of curiosity, though - how well does this thing fit on a baseplate? I'd quite like to get one, but I'm considering mounting it. I've counted, and it looks like I'll need a couple of the green 32X32 plates since I think the green would look nicer than the larger gray ones, considering those lovely green pieces already acting as baseplate.

I'd think you'd need at least four 32x32 plates.

This set should come with a goat.

Why may I ask?

Awwwwwww... I was hoping for a recreation of "clever girl" as part of the review

Never heard of it.

They better make good on that T-Rex body for you! That's just not right, especially at that price point!

They will. Just not yet.

Haven't you seen Jurassic park? I'm getting this set this weekend, so I'll be able to compare the quality's of the dinos. :sweet:

Awesome review Masked Builder, the pictures taken are phenomenal.

Really interested in the new hairpiece for male minifigs. I wonder if that's going to replace the standard combover we've seen for ages; does that hairpiece come in any other sets from 2012? (preferably a cheaper one  )

No sadly.

No I don't think it does.

Great review! Quite a few spelling mistakes, but I think that I can forgive you on that aspect

Spelling mistakes?!

(Wow,I haven't posted on here for a long time.)

Great review! I love the pic of the T-Rex eating the guy. If that minifig's a lawyer, everybody's lucky.

I'm not sure if I like the coloration of the Coelophysis, but I'll still get this set anyway.

As for the "Raptor": it's too small to be Velociraptor mongoliesis or Dromaeosaurus albertensis, so it's most likely Utahraptor ostrommaysorum. However, I'm kind-of dissapointed that the only herbivore species in this theme is Triceratops horridus (meaning "horrid three-horned face"). I hope that if the rumored summer wave is real, more herbivores will appear. If the herbivores have to be able to fight, the most likely are: Stegosaurus stenops, Ankylosaurus magniventris, and Pachycephalosaurus wyomingensis.

As much as I adore Stegosaurus, I fear it'd be a difficult figure for the Lego group to pull off. What to do about the plates and the tail spikes? Would they be moulded onto the dinosaur or would they come as snap-on pieces? Either way, it'd be expensive to make, wouldn't you say?

I would shed a tear of joy if Lego made a Therizinosaurus.

Damn, after reading this review (and some still in the RA  ) I'm loving this theme, which is a bad thing because there's so much else I like.

The set looks great, lots of neat features like that lifting gate, although it looks like the T Rex could jump right over the wall.

Awesome review, it covers everything and has great pictures, I hope mine will get to this level.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Oh wow, those minifig heads are so cool :D I am tempted to buy the whole set just for the scared faces!

Yeah they're great!

They would be molded on like the Triceratops.

 Yeah it does a bit.

Now being a proud owner of this set, My thoughts.

This looks big at first, but it is much smaller than I thought. This makes me think it's a separate part of a bigger base. The tower in the back is shorter than I thought, but incredibly easy to add to. The build is very quick and easy, nothing too complex, but I still have troubles with string. Now the difference between the small dino and the Dino attack one. The old Dino is more bendable than the new one, but the new one is still somewhat rubbery. The new dino has some small holes in the bottom, but much firmer and better than the old one. Overall, I'd give this set about 9/10. So with Masked and I combined. it's about 9.2/10. A great set!

Um, LEGO already made a Stegosaurus.

I guess that you could do the legs, head, and tail (with "thagomizers" attached), seperate from the body (with plates attached). I probably wouldn't be more exspensive than the other dinosaurs. As for Therizinosaurus, eh... not likely. Have you thought of making a MOC of one?

Oh, I'm well aware of that one, but it's nowhere near as detailed or realistic as the Dino assortment. Perhaps I am overestimating the potential cost. Oh, and my hat off to you for knowing what a thagomizer is! :)

A MOC Therizinosaurus would be a cool challenge, although I'd probably end up using mostly Bionicle parts.

Must have this set. 'Nuff said.

Actually, not enough said... I don't think the back room with huge windows at ground level is very well used. From prelim pictures I hoped it'd be a laborotory or something, but it seems only to be a large room paved with 2x2 tile with one stud parts. TLG really loves those.

Also, about the hairpeice... It will come with the 'Geek' minifig in Series 7! Yess! I intend to build Inception.
