December 21, 201113 yr They're actually very Ghostbusters...as long you're thinking of the right kind of Ghostbusters: Those weren't the Ghostbusters I was thinking of, but I still don't see much resemblance. A little bit more of a resemblance than the live action Ghostbusters, though.
December 21, 201113 yr It seems like a nice theme and i seriously wonder if they gonna provide a story line (Ninjago has a very strong story line, Power Miners didn't have one at all) What do you mean? Of course PM had a story! The rock monsters were creating earthquakes, so the miners were sent to investigate and nullify the threat, and they did so by collecting all the power crystalls which were giving the monsters a sort of sugar rush. Then they dug deeper into the core to fight and capture the magma monsters. Not as complex as Ninjago of course, but it's still a story. You can't really have an action theme without some kind of story to go along with it, so obviously this theme will have one too. Maybe the story is a combination of the story of Atlantis and the cartoon Danny Phantom where the monsters are trying to gather these glowing artifacts, which when gathered will allow them to open a portal from the Ghost/Monster/Twilight Zone to our world and cause mayhem, and the Monster Fighters are trying to prevent that.
December 21, 201113 yr That is, indeed true! The last sets I bought because I actually liked the set itself would most likely be Darth Vader's TIE fighter and the Raid VPR in the Space Police II line (and even then I modified it) and some of the better designed brick-built animal impulse sets (Scarab Attack and the Atlantis Octopus)... Other than that, I mostly view LEGO sets as Parts and Minifig packs, and I'll even admit that sometimes the minifigs included with the set is what ultimately makes or breaks my decision to buy it (unless it is completely packed with useful parts). Yeah, I also collect sets with minifigures in mind as well. With some themes, I blindly collect sets regardless of them (Star Wars), but generally I'll look at minifigures before looking at the set itself, if it's medium-sized. That said, the Ghost Train does stand out to me. And yay, ghosts! I don't have any of those. The story again looks to be a repeat of Atlantis. There are six different keys (they look like small figures or ghosts) which probably activate a portal of some sort.
December 22, 201113 yr They don't give me Ghost Busters vibes at all. They are guys in bowler hats and a girl with an arrow in her hair. That doesn't ring Ghost Busters to me. Their a team of people who specializes in using technology to capture supernatural entities... Monster Fighters is basically Ghost busters, but not set in the 80's. I would rather it be like the Lego Studios sets where it mirrored a monster movie set-up (You know, a couple stumbles into a horrific situation and fights to escape). Also for me this just feels too much like Pharaoh's Quest or Atlantis, you have the same basic set-up of a team hunting down objects and facing off against supernatural beings. Monster Fighters looks pretty good, but it feels like the same story as those other theme's just with a different setting. Edited December 22, 201113 yr by strangely
December 22, 201113 yr I reckon those winged men in the Dracula's castle set are actually gargoyles that have come to life. I haven't gone through this whole thread so hopefully it wasn't mentioned ten posts ago and I look stupid, if it was, I second the opinion of whoever wrote it first. I don't know about others but I love the black turrets used in this set.
December 22, 201113 yr As an Adventurers fan, I like this theme. Most of the vehicles could probably be modded for JT and there are some great 30's minifigures-I could give some of the Adventurers characters makeovers! Some of the sets don't look too bad, either. Though honestly, I'm only very interested in the two largest ones-The ghost train (I like the ghosts AND Time Twisters vibe) and Dracula's castle (I could modify one of those bat-men into Man-Bat with some different legs and probably a different torso, and the castle seems to have some good pieces for building an Arkham Asylum). The hearse doesn't look too bad either, I could probably modify it into a car for Lord Sinister/Mr. Hates/Baron von Barron. The other sets don't look too good to me though. The swamp one is okay, but other than the minifigures, there is nothing really stand out. I like the car in the Werewolf set, but not the Werewolf too much, and I don't need a tree whick catapults dogs. I might get the mummy chariot though, nothing really stand out, but as an Adventurers fan, I can always use Mummies, and that blue bike could be useful. And the lab, oh my. I didn't even realize that it was a lab until a zoomed in, I thought it was half a car and a graveyard. I don't like the car at all, and there isn't anything I really need from the lab. I suppose that if I did get it though, that the scientist would probably have some good equipment and there are always those 30's monster hunters. December 22, 201113 yr Love to have new monsters. That swamp man is now I just need a man in a scooby doo suit in the CM
December 23, 201113 yr The double crossbow looks really sweet. I am glad Lego is putting the bowler hat in normal sets. Can't wait to see final pics!
December 23, 201113 yr Judging by only the preliminary pictures this already looks like an awesome theme. It looks like LEGO Studios with a bit of LEGO Time Cruisers. I was going to cut down on the LEGO in 2012... But 2012 is going to be an awesome year, albeit a tough year for my wallet, with LEGO Superheroes, LEGO LotR and now LEGO Monster Fighters. Not that I'm going to collect them all, a couple of sets from each theme. But it looks like Monster Fighters has the best sets with great vehicles and good looking buildings (that castle).
December 24, 201113 yr So, it just dawned on me that "the zombies" cannot use the CM zombie - he's in a contemporary business suit. whatever these zombies look like, they're gonna have to be in Victorian(ish) garb...
December 24, 201113 yr So, it just dawned on me that "the zombies" cannot use the CM zombie - he's in a contemporary business suit. whatever these zombies look like, they're gonna have to be in Victorian(ish) garb... LEGO won't be using any minifigs from the CM series. Those are placeholders.
December 25, 201113 yr Does it look like the heros are collecting stain glass for the castle, also I think the flying monsters in the castle set are vampires in their monster form.
December 25, 201113 yr LEGO won't be using any minifigs from the CM series. Those are placeholders. Are you sure? It would be unprecedented, but there's a first time for eveything, even using CMFs in normal sets.
December 25, 201113 yr Of course they will not use the colectable minifigs... That would be silly... I just can't stop looking at those new ghosts (ok only one is new...)! Wait, do I see a warhammer?! And even better- We finnaly get a female in cheap set?! This can't be real! Edited December 25, 201113 yr by Lordofdragonss
December 26, 201113 yr These sets have the coolest box art I have ever seen. I agree. A lot of box art lately has not been very exciting. The preliminary box art is very detailed! Hope it stays that way.
December 26, 201113 yr The arms on the brown monsters in the castle look interesting. I wonder how Lego is going to put them on the minifig, seeing as they are on the same plane as the torso, not perpendicular like regular minifigs. I also wonder if the wings will be part of the arm molded on, or if they are another piece that clips on or something.
December 27, 201113 yr Are you sure? It would be unprecedented, but there's a first time for eveything, even using CMFs in normal sets. Pretty much since there is a new werewolf.
December 27, 201113 yr I guess this theme will be a kind of "halloween-like" theme. While the "studios" theme had fictional monsters, I hope this will have "real" monsters. Personally I'd like a lot a theme of haunted houses and scary children instead a ghostbusters-like story. Something like scooby-doo but more serious. I will appreciate new molds for the classic monsters (ghost, vampire and werewolf) and i don't know what expect from others monsters like zombies, laguna monster and others. My 2 cents :)
December 27, 201113 yr Pretty much since there is a new werewolf. Maybe because the Werewolf has a specially molded head and none of the other stand ins do. I'm pretty sure that when CM was first announced, LEGO said that they wouldn't be appearing in any sets (except for specialty ones, it seems, like the Calendar). I don't want to go looking through two years worth of press releases and Brickset articles to find that though.
December 27, 201113 yr My old roommate claims that he saw a sneak peak for Monster Fighters in the new Club magazine, but I can't be sure. He's pulled this kind of joke before and the result wasn't good. I cant confirm for sure, I don't have the magazine yet, but I'll ask him to snap a pic. -Sci
December 28, 201113 yr Oh.... My.... Batpeople. I'm in love. I don't care how much it costs, I NEED those batpeople. This theme is stunning! This caught me totally unawares! I thought they were through with Horror as a theme since the studios sets. Wow! So many new and useful minifigures! This is great! I cannot wait to get my claws on these sets! Did I mention BATPEOPLE!? Maybe this means we'll see Batman's nemesis, Manbat, in another Batman wave too, but that's besides the point. This theme looks very promising. ~Insectoid Aristocrat
