Some of you might want to slay me for this, but I think I'll like this theme better than LotR. Those sets are great, sure, and I'll pick one up for the new horse mold, but these MF sets are a combination of fun, spooky, and cartoony, and though I really want the Mines of Moria, the Vampyre Castle takes precedence.

After you finish building, could you measure how tall the castle is, please?

I just want to make sure I have enough room on my shelf.

Bluebeard, out-

It measures to around 17.5 inches, so around 444.5 mm.

You're not alone. I was planning on getting Helm's Deep to add to my fantasy MMV shelf display as a castle ( I missed all the good castles during my dark ages :cry_sad: ) but I keep looking at it... Then going and looking at the Vampyes Castle. I think I like the Vampyre one better. Plus including it adds far more drama to my little village.

I do like it better than LOTR, and Castle's one of my favourite themes! I'm only buying LOTR as medieval parts packs to increase my Castle collection! I'm sure almost everyone who follows this thread regularly will like MF better. Now post that you like it better in the LOTR 2012 thread...then you might have a lot of mad AFOLs on your tail.

Same here; I keep thinking to myself "I should really set some money aside for at least one LOTR set", but when I look at them, none of them strike me as worth getting.

Not at all the case with Monster Fighters; there are so many sets I want to get from this theme, I'm having to sell stuff off just to make sure I have enough money!

Like I said, I at least want to get the Mines of Moria just for the parts and so I didn't completely miss out on LotR. Plus the Hobbit hair pieces can prove useful.

As for the Monster Fighters, I plan on getting every one, possibly multiples (I need some swamp men and skeleton horses for my undead army). Plus having multiple of the monster fighters themselves can lend it self to useful parts anyway (Like Rathbone's outfit, Frank Rock's hair, etc). Same goes for Lord Vampyre.

Walmart.com has two Monster Fighters books scheduled for release in August. One is Lego Monster Fighters: Meet the Monsters and the other is Lego Monster Fighters: Watch Out, Monsters About!. They are 32 and 48 pages, respectively, and both published by DK. Titles are TBC.

Great. I'm glad to see this theme growing. Hopefully we're looking at multiple set waves too. :classic:

What could these books be about? I can imagine one being about the characters, sort of like the Character Encyclopedias for the other themes, but what about the other one?

@MightyMegs: Although I do not own the set, I am almost certain that the Ghost Train will not fit on LEGO tracks, due to the rubber tyres on the carts.

Even without the rubber on the wheels?

Fixed, and no, probably not 'cause the wheels on the carts and the wheels at the very front are set apart at different widths.

Or at least, they seem to be.

Anyhoo, to tide myself over 'til MF hits the UK, I've been playing Castlevania: Circle of the Moon on an emulator, which has given me some ideas for future sets.

A set featuring Cerberus would be pretty cool, for example. The Cerberus mould that HP gave us back in 2001 is a little outdated; I'd like to see one that is as detailed and posable as the Forest Police bear.

Another idea would the Medusa; they could use the snake-tail piece from Ninjago.

While I'm waiting for my sets to arrive, I too played one of my old Castlevania games (Bloodlines for the Genesis/Megadrive). Funny how the main villain for both MF and Castlevania is a vampire and they both have other ghouls and beasties to do their bidding (Hell, the grim reaper takes orders from Dracula)

Can't remember if this was posted before in this thread, but

of someone who modified his Ghost Train to run on 9V tracks.

I remember seeing something like that on the train section of EB. Very nice, but either it had the wings removed or if it was too fast for the camera to pick them up.

On the topic of the Ghost Train set, it has a strikingly similarity to the Toy Story Western Train set.

I've been listening to a ton of NES Castlevania music recently.

Hi guys, I wasn't able to report in on the weekend, but I did build all the sets on Friday night (went to bed very late... well after the monsters came out  ) The sets were dirt cheap (compared to what we usually pay for Lego) on BL, but don't go looking, he sold out that very day.

The castle is such an awesome set. I did have a couple of difficult moments during the build, sometimes the connector pins just would not go in and a whole section imploded while I was trying to connect it to the rest. I also had difficulty getting the wheel section with the crystal-thingies to sit properly before being secured in. So just be aware of that. Was super fun though. I took a bunch of photos, & had a camera doing time-lapse shots during the build so if anyone can point me to a good program to turn images into a stop motion video I will upload them for your enjoyment! :classic:

The minifigs are brilliant. (I will get the ghosts & "monster" separate, and maybe the zombies too.) Love the bats, swamp thing, and skeletorse glows really well! The prints don't glow as well, but the spider, rat, claws, vampire heads (and I assume the train parts) do. I will do a review of the castle if noone else has yet.

Does any one know if the Ghost Train will fit on the current Lego track system?

Probably not as-is, but I have no doubt that it'd be easy enough to mod to fit the track system.

Good stuff. As luck would have it, two brand-new Castlevania games were recently announced. It's a good year for those of us who enjoy Gothic horror!

I went to my local Wal-Mart recently, and was disappointed to see a lack of any Summer sets whatsoever. I don't know about Toys R' Us (I suspect they have them) but I think some areas are probably going to be without MF until June. :sceptic:
