AndyC Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Changed the title and pinned it. Shouldn't it be Monster Fighters and not Monster Hunters? They're certainly some cool looking prelims, bit iffy in places but I'm sure that'll improve with better pictures of finalised sets. I can't imagine all the CMF figures will remain exactly as-is, TLG are far too aware of the appeal of figs so they're not going to want to dissuade purchasers just because they previously bought a $2 CMF. Ceroknight Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Changed the title and pinned it. This isn't a video game license Quote
Phyre Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 The werewolf is new. I think the coincidence is due to LEGO prioritizing on finishing prototypes for the minifigs that didn't have a good alternative. I think it is really, very unlikely for TLG to release CMF in sets. You can mark my words. And afterall, they didn't reuse the ninja in NinjaGo. Nor did they reuse the mommy in Pharaoh's quest. The minifigures will likely be very similar to their CMF counterparts but have different prints, TLG can order new minifigure prints very easily. I'd expect Franki and Dracula to dive a little more into scary territory than the comical territory from CMF. In my opinion, the CMF Werewolf is a much better alternative to the ugly thing they put in that preliminary picture. The old Studios/Harry Potter style werewolf would have even been better than that thing. So I disagree with your reasoning there. However, I do think that the CMFs are temporary stand-ins and will get new prints for the final version. And actually, it looks to me like the mummy already does have a new print. Look at a picture of the CMF Mummy (or the actual fig if you have one nearby) and compare it to the Monster Fighters mummy. The most noticeable difference is the bandages on the torso; they have a different pattern than the CMF Mummy. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Shouldn't it be Monster Fighters and not Monster Hunters? This isn't a video game license I did that before 8am, I'll fix it now (it seemed right in my head) Quote
andhe Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I think the Time Cruisers comments are pretty spot on. That theme looked like it had been cobbled together from a kid's bucket of lego spares, but I think that was the idea. The best set on offer here has to be the Swamp Creature 1. Because it's a new figure 2. Because it will be in the cheaper range and you can just part out the Elvis monster fighter guy. The worst set has to be the Mummy carriage. Especially if it IS the series 3 Mummy. I think that would be a very poor show on TLG's account, especially when he was one of the runts of that series as well. On the other hand, if they DO keep the CMFs, the zombie set is going to be a massive hit. Quote
Gabe Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Wow, more new pics! My eyes are going cross-eyed from staring at too many blurry pics, trying to make out stuff. This looks really mixed to me - some amazing things like the hearse, car in the castle set, the new swamp monster, return of the fencing foil, ghosts and zombies (!!); and overall suffering a bit from that chucked together look that ppl are commenting on. But hey, they are prelims after all. I'm really interested to see what thier final form will take! Quote
Ardelon Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 (edited) Why does the swamp monster need underpants?! Edited December 20, 2011 by Ardelon Quote
Oklart Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 This theme look awesome! Too bad they didn´t put proper train wheels on the ghost train wagons, i want to run it on track... Quote
Nightshroud99 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 My list also has 9465 The Zombies 9461 Swamp Monster 9462 Mummie 9463 Were Wolf 9464 Vampire Hearse 9465 The Zombies 9466 Frankenstein 9467 Ghost Train 9468 Vampire Castle If they have a Zombie set then I'm really happy! Quote
nuparu51 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 The sets are okay, but I'm really only getting these for the great minifigures. Quote
user Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Well, for me these sets are a mix. I was hoping for more modern day ghost hunting equipment but even so, I'm happy they went for a more paranormal aspect on these rather than sci-fi. The swamp monster set looks interesting, the mummy set looks like garbage saying that I've also hated that mummy figure. The werewolf looks okay but the head is kinda meh. And frankenstein's laboratory is a HUGE dissappointment. All it is is a poorly cobbled together wall, a crappy looking laser, and a jail? This set isn't even a shadow of the fantastic set I drooled over as a kid but never recieved. THAT's how you mae a laboratory, LEGO. And the more I look at the details of the lab the more I hate it. What is that on top of the crappy laser tower? Oh, it's fire and random electrical pieces. Oh, and a random chain attached to the jail. It reminds me of whenever little kids play with lego and put as many chains and fire on their creations as possible. Maybe I'm just pissed because frankenstein has always been my favorite monster. But I really love the vampire sets, they seem well thought up and put together nicely. Quote
JackJonespaw Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 As cool as this theme looks, if you look closer at the video, you'll see that they're reusing pieces of the collectable minifigures. Of course, you've got the mummy, vampire, mad scientist, and Frankenstein, but I saw the fishing pole, small bone, and musketeer sword in those sets. I really hope that this isn't going to end up like Time Cruisers. Quote
Vindice Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Love the vampire castle and the theme in general. I think nezxt year is going to be fantastic for kids and for adult MOC'ers! Quote
Peppermint_M Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Right, guys. These are prelims. Blurry Tiny Prelims. The figures are likely placeholders, the prints and maybe even the colours and parts will change. Look at the old Dino pictures, compare the sets. I don't see any of the Dino guys wearing Snow Rebel outfits... Set design is also preliminary, there could be any number of changes. Not that you can make out anything really from such blurry pictures. There is a rough shape but details are lost, there will likely be revisions before they come out. Now, will we carry on discussion on what is set to be another exciting and unusual theme for Action in 2012. If nothing else, Halloween is going to get a lot more fun with Lego! Quote

Agreed, like all the prelim pictures that have surfaced the last few days they are all works in progress. You think they would be up for changing the name to Halloween Apocalypse or suchlike? Surprised no Van Helsing in Lego from what can be made out from the pics Quote
Tamamono Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Here you go *snip* love it cant wait to get multiples of it Hey, thanks for the additional pictures, Clone gunner commander jedi! Did you find those on Brickipedia? In my opinion, the CMF Werewolf is a much better alternative to the ugly thing they put in that preliminary picture. The old Studios/Harry Potter style werewolf would have even been better than that thing. Peppermint M is right that it's hard to make anything out from the preliminary pictures (especially the Werewolf, who's mostly covered by the 'Confidential' watermark, but he actually looks pretty good to me. He gets the new Wolverine claws in tan with prints, and, from what I can make out, a head/helmet similar to the one from the original Studios line. Anyway, I'm sure he'll look better once we have hi-res pictures of the sets. Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 9464 Vampire Hearse looks great to bad that will probably change. 9467 Ghost Train teminds me alot of the one from time twisters. Quote
ZO6 Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Man, am I ever digging these sets! I forget who made the comparison about these being like a Time Twisters/Adventurers/Studios mash-up (Oky?), but that was exactly what came to mind for me too. These sets looks completely wacky, and I love 'em! I think once TLC finalizes the parts, we'll have a slightly more coherent colour scheme and look (the current mish-mash is probably what's turning a lot of people off). The big castle currently reminds me a bit too much of the Troll's Mountain Fortress, but perhaps that will change in time. Overall, this theme looks like it will be a lot of fun. I can't wait! Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 This is news to me. I had no idea this was going to be a theme this next year! I used to love "monster" movies when I was little and this hits home well with me. I am unsure how TLG can release so many new sets in one year. There won't be enough shelf space!!!! On another note, I won't have enough money! But looking at these sets, I actually like the bulk of them. The CMF use is likely preliminary, but I would welcome them since I only have the werewolf monster and really want the other figures Bringing back the glow ghost shell is awesome, although I liked having 3 from early Castle sets. Now they won't be as rare And I like seeing a glow skeleton horse. Bring on the Hi-res pictures! Quote

Brickviller Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 The sets look Ok so far, but this is just not a theme that appeals me. Much like Studios didn't when those came out. As most said it looks like a combination of several older themes, however as far as I know, all of these where quite unsuccesfull. Which makes me wonder wether or not this will/can be an succesfull theme Quote
Cutty Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 (edited) Ok, ok, ok, late to the party again Now all these pics are preliminary and sport some of the CMFs as stand ins. Apart from that, I'm thrilled for this! I love all those classic horror-monsters and there's damn good potential in this. That swamp-monster is just sooo adorable with his flippers and huge "can I haz cookiez?"-eyes. ;-) Now here's hope to gain some cool new pieces in darker colours for a reasonable (read: un-licensed) price. Can't wait for better pictures. Be well all! Cutty edit: forgot to mention I reward an imaginary +1 to ANYONE who thought of "Time Twisters" and/or "Fright Knights" upon first seeing those pics ^^ The similarities are striking and leave me with a bad feeling in my tummy, despite the anticipation. As most said it looks like a combination of several older themes, however as far as I know, all of these where quite unsuccesfull. Which makes me wonder wether or not this will/can be an succesfull theme Hmm, well monsters and the like are always a hit with boys. And even if they do reuse the CMF's, a lot of kids probably don't own these specific characters, if at all, so that would be another incentive for them to buy into the line. As for me, the line certainly looks cool and creative as a whole, but having purchased the older Studios sets and the CMF's there's nothing really new here for me. I'll definitely be getting the swamp monster set though, and the ghost train would be nice to grab in a clearance sale. Quote
Suspsy Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 The ghost train is my favorite, mainly because it's been awhile since we saw a ghost minifigure. Quote
sharky Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 (edited) I keep looking at that skeleton horse on the mummy set and thinking that perhaps the mold was going to be used in a Harry Potter set, but maybe the idea got scrapped late in the game. Of course it would be molded in black and with wings added. (Edit: OK I see that it is an old mold from various other sets. Thanks guys ) I get the feeling that these sets are really aimed at AFOLs as I seriously don't think a great many kids these days are even into the classic monsters as much as most adults save for seasonal interest during Halloween. Maybe it's more a boy thing as I only have a young daughter, and she's not really into spooky stuff like that. BTW, I also feel the Alien Conquest theme is more adult oriented than kid. Just my opinion of course. The Dracula castle looks interesting. I just hope the castle actually has some more structure and is not just a front wall. Edited December 20, 2011 by sharky Quote
