I usually apply the stickers, but I wish that LEGO shipped all sets with the sticker sheets backed by cardboard. I was looking at the 2010 Fire Station that I built last year for my kids. At the time the sticker sheet was curled due to packaging, but I tried to straighten it out and use the stickers. Now some of the stickers have curled loose, and with 2 cats and 3 dogs you can imagine how much dust/hair has already started to cover the sticky side.

There are a few sets I've bought for parts that I haven't used the stickers. I save the stickers because I can already imagine other users for some of them.

maybe a mod could add a poll to this topic? :sweet:

For me, yes most of the time.

I probably should have from the get go. ;) Not sure if I'm able to at my status, but if so, oversight!!!

Also, I sort of had a slight change of heart after I was finishing up the VW Van. I went back and put on the wall decal stickers, and it added SO much life to the model. On top of that, the stickered pieces actually feel like they'll play wonderfully with modular MOCs. With a lack of printed pieces, the stickers add life and detail to a room that you otherwise cannot add.

So far I have yet to apply any stickers to my pieces but only because I don't want to have them peeling over time. Has anyone been able to successfully apply any without any future damage? (also, I do try hard to keep them out of sunlight or away from any heat sources if that helps)

I've found that peeling stickers rarely happens except when the sticker is actually removed and replaced, or when the stickered part is unsuited for stickers in the first place. For instance, stickers might peel if they're attached to a round element that is 2 x 2 or smaller; examples would be Plankton's face in 3826 Build-A-Bob or the sticker on the disc launcher in 7706 Mobile Defense Tank. Other than that I haven't had trouble with stickers peeling, although I don't leave my sets exposed to the elements either.

That's good to know. I may apply them, though I'd still hate having to find replacements or find myself wishing I hadn't stuck them on. #firstworldproblems

Yes, I use stickers, but in a related development I contacted TLG through the missing parts section telling them I did not receive a sticker sheet for 10184 Town Plan. They sent the sticker sheet for this set for free. I never bought this set. I pieced it together through Bricklink and my existing collection. I'm not complaining at all, but is this normal?

If no one minds, I have two similar questions to my previous question that I'm gonna bump the thread with.

What is the oldest set that you own that still has its stickers on fine?

When you remove the stickers, does it leave any residue? (old or new)

My only concern is applying them and having to deal with them peeling off in a few month's/year's time.

I have sets I build with my kids and sets I build for myself. The sets i build with my kids end up being broken up and used for parts by them and me. I put stickers on both as that is what they were designed for. I don't have the luxury of buying multiples of the same set for parts.

I have these from 1982 and 1984 that have their stickers. I bought them second hand, as they are older then me. They are still in pretty good overall condition.

Stickers on older sets tend to leave their residue behind. The stickers basically break down and separate from the glue if not taken care of. Left in sun or high humidity, possibly extreme cold. Pretty much sets from the 90's and earlier will have these problems. Stickers on my newer sets haven't left any residue when I had to reset them. I can't vouch for all sets but, as far as city, I have not had any problems. I have read about issues with either Star Wars or Alien Conquerers though, I can't remember exactly which one. I think it was about the edges raising up but, I don't think there was residue left.

Bottom line is, if you take proper care, you shouldn't have to worry about them falling off. Otherwise get some Crazy Glue and they'll never come off again.

Hope this gives you some resting insight default_classic.gif

The oldest set I have with stickers is probably 6396 International Jetport from 1990. It had a few stickers that are still tightly adhered to the underlying brick. I think they must have used something stronger back in the day. I do not want to remove them, nor do I ever plan on it. But I would expect some kind of residue. I have yet to remove any new stickers, but I have heard they are more easily removed and replaced to better line things up or re-use the brick without the sticker.

As far as the original question. I typically will place the sticker on the brick since I am not much of a MOCist, but I haven't been putting them on lately for some reason.

As I'm really a set collector and not a MOCer I do indeed apply stickers but they fill me with dread.

I'm a total perfectionist and when building my Winter Village over Christmas I was disheartened to find more and more stickers appearing in the 3 sets - strangely the stickers increased in number through the years of release, ie the Post Office had more than the Bakery and the Bakery had more than the Toy Shop.

They fill me with dread much the same way as the thought of applying a screen protector on my phone. If it's not perfect it bugs the hell out of me. Plus, they just don't look as good as printed bricks and their longevity concerns me.

For me, it taints the joy of the build somewhat. Having just ordered Hogwart's Castle, and realising that there are quite a few stickers within this set, I feel the OCD anxiety stirring within me!

There's no denying it, I HATE STICKERS!! ;-) (but then I am a bit mental clearly)

Get a fine and sharp craft knife and use the tip of the blade to hod the sticker at the top-most edge/corner. Leave the brick on a flat surface and line the sticker up with the brick. Lay the bottom edge (the one opposite to where it is sat on the knife)near the brick. Make one final alignment check and then press the sticker down firmly, releasing the final edge/corner from the knife a the last moment.

Thank you, clearly you've done this before ;-)

I also build a lot of model planes and Zoids that require pinpoint sticker accuracy. Strangely though, the last LEGO stickers I applied was to the Speed Racer cars because I wanted to keep them built.

I wonder if anyone has ever requested replacement stickers from Lego because they botched up their application? I'd be interested to find out!

I wonder how far back they have stickers for sticker replacements. I have a few sets that have lost stickers, but they are much older set that I doubt they still carry the stickers for.

I have applied stickers to the sets my kids have bought and the Star Wars sets, I am more a builder that MOCr of the new stuff so I am not too bothered, and the new stickers will hopefully last.
